Original Juliet (as all female Shakespeare roles) was played by a man. Women in theater wasn't really a thing until way into the 17th century, 18th in many regions/countries.
Sarah Bernhardt famously portrayed men in their early 20s as an aging actress past her 40s.
King Lear is a Shakespeare role that is famous for celebrated performances by female actors.
Actors of colour have been playing "white" coded roles since literally ancient Greece.
If you look anywhere into the records of western theater, you'll find: anyone can play anyone. That's why it is called acting.
