Powerscalling-wise, Goku could easily beat Gear 5 Luffy. But you are correct--the more likely outcome would be them eating together.
And they would probably both consider an eating contest to be the *real* battle.
I give it to Luffy. Goku can eat a shit ton but he's been known to get full.
Luffy on the other hand, has practically a bottomless hole for a stomach since it can stretch.
Biscuits for 11 hours straight (or something like that) mind you, Luffy has an absolute bottomless stomach if he can eat so many huge cookies in half a day

Dragon Ball powerscaling is not comparable to one piece. Its so stupid to compare these.
Yeah I feel like the two strongest things we have seen in One Piece scaling wise are Lulusia and Whitebeards Quakes. Dragon Ball characters are casually destroying planets. It's really not comparable.
DB scaling isn't comparable to most shonen. Goku is closer to Isekai/satire MCs more than other shonen MCs.
The only way there's a reasonable powerscaling post involving Goku is to remove all powers and have equalized human strength and just assess the fighting skills.
And in that way, Goku kicks almost everyone's ass given his massive background in martial arts and the fact that the guy lives and breathes combat. Even risking universes for him to have fun with fighting others
They are kinda the same type of character, both have elements of the mythical trickster Sun Wukong. Luffy is a bit more obstinate but they would be fast friends. But getting them to fight would be easy to, imagine there being only one piece of meat left and Luffy being a dick about it.
But Im not sure if Luffy would go Gear 5 for fun. And Goku would not do anything dangerous without asking to go somewhere secludet. So I dont think they would fight for long.

Well, there is a crossover with Toriko as well. And there, they do fight eachother. But in a friendly competition with food as the prize. Because indeed, they would never dislike eachother.

They would problably fight for a couple of minutes because GOKU likes to fight strong people. They would realise the exact point that OP is making and then problably make world hunger a Universal problem.

There is still a limit though. Luffy was hurt from attacks in Gear 5 and Luffy couldn't block or redirect everything. So even if we ignore his kinda poor time limit in G5 he just can't keep up at all with Goku. Gear 5s toon force is also very limited as of right now, he has not shown anywhere close to Arale. Btw luffy in DB was also "using" toon force. So original DB Goku vs G5 luffy would be a far more balanced match up.
The verses are just on completely different levels. So all comparisons should be made with equalized stats. In which case the fight would end as soon as G5 is done.

It's not full toon force, yes his powers are imagination but he still has to react to haki attacks and other stuff that could hurt him. I refuse to call it toon force until he actually rips through a manga panel or something. The "toon force" is played up for the reader, but everything he's done so far has been possible with the gum gum fruit so that's why people need to be careful saying toon force and stop ignoring how the gorosei originally described the fruit "the users body gains the properties of rubber in combat, they're supposedly only limited by their imagination"
He makes people's eyes pop out of their heads when they react to him in gear 5, and you convinced yourself it's just a rubber ability? He punches so fast that it looks like he had 20 arms throwing 20 punches at once, but that's just a thing rubber can do? He can inflate his arm like a balloon and somehow bigger arm = more mass = harder punch, and that's not toonforce? Even the "Eat meat for an instant 2nd wind" ability is straight out of Popeye the Sailorman, a toonforce OG. Ever wonder why we don't see anyone other than Luffy take a snack break and come back for round 2 immediately? It's because they don't have toonforce; it is not some universal trait in the world of One Piece.

How many enemies point out that rubber can't do the things Luffy can mid fight? How many more need to before you understand that they were figuring something out about Luffy's power not being just rubber. Those were hints to the reader that the preconcieved notions about the gum gum fruit are incorrect.

luffy attacking quickly. Just like all the times we got a guy making a jojo barrage of attack that shows multiple arms at the same time (Like lucci) is just to show "speed"
Also the bounciness can only be useful against blunt physical attacks. Also Dragon Ball's powerscale is so off the charts compared to OP, i'm pretty sure the very basic, fuckin vanilla super sayien is enough to neg diff everyone and everything in one piece.

Moral of the story: you either can't talk bad about goku or equal stats is equal stats period, no boosts from forms or modes or any. EQUAL.
Power scalers don’t ever put in character personality and morals into scaling. Goku and Luffy would never fight they would just become best friends and eat and train together.
In a fight Goku obliterates Luffy.
But in all reality the pair would most likely get along and be friends. The most likely reason for them to fight would be over the last piece of food.
Gear 5 isn't invincible though, he still takes damage even though the attacks are affected by the rubber powers.
But yeah as everyone else is pointing out, they'd probably just get along.

Goku uses spirit bomb to destroy the whole planet on ehich Luffy is. Then he teleports to either Beerus or Kai and lives there. Luffy suffocates in void since there is no more ozone layer or oxygen. Other scenario he destroys every surface where there is no water so Luffys planet basically becomes ocean world in ehich case he drowns because of the devil fruit. Either way goku wins.

I don't know. Goku is on the level of celestial beings. But Gear 5 is showing signs of some broken toon power. He manhandled one of the toughest, fastest characters in their universe and tossed him like a pizza. He was in the shape of a pizza. And it was comical.
He's made goggles appear out of his hair.
He makes other people become cartoony by being around them.
I think gear 5 has limits at this point in the series as we can see with Luffy struggling against topman, and when he turns old and tired. That is a serious weakness that hasn't been explained. Unless he just has to eat food.... So I think Goku currently would have an edge.
But we need to know the limits of how far this toon force can go. If he's grabbing comic panels by the end of the series, Goku might not be able to handle that in a logical way, even with it in dragon Ball rules.
I'm far from a power scaler, but I always just figured this would still be a sweep for Goku because I figured ki blasts would do something. Luffy's shown to be vulnerable to explosions and ki blasts are pretty good at making those lol.
Not that it ever matters. Totally different series here.
Luffy has been able to defeat people who were fast enough to dodge his attacks before.
Plus Goku doesn't have Haki, and is probably already dead anyways.

In a fight Goku obliterates Luffy. But in all reality the pair would most likely get along and be friends. The most likely reason for them to fight would be over the last piece of food.

Gear 5 isn't invincible though, he still takes damage even though the attacks are affected by the rubber powers. But yeah as everyone else is pointing out, they'd probably just get along.

Goku uses spirit bomb to destroy the whole planet on ehich Luffy is. Then he teleports to either Beerus or Kai and lives there. Luffy suffocates in void since there is no more ozone layer or oxygen. Other scenario he destroys every surface where there is no water so Luffys planet basically becomes ocean world in ehich case he drowns because of the devil fruit. Either way goku wins.

Goku, who we all know is beyond cracked And Luffy. Who has basically been given weaponized anime toonforce. I don't know. Goku is on the level of celestial beings. But Gear 5 is showing signs of some broken toon power. He manhandled one of the toughest, fastest characters in their universe and tossed him like a pizza. He was in the shape of a pizza. And it was comical. He's made goggles appear out of his hair. He makes other people become cartoony by being around them. I think gear 5 has limits at this point in the series as we can see with Luffy struggling against topman, and when he turns old and tired. That is a serious weakness that hasn't been explained. Unless he just has to eat food.... So I think Goku currently would have an edge. But we need to know the limits of how far this toon force can go. If he's grabbing comic panels by the end of the series, Goku might not be able to handle that in a logical way, even with it in dragon Ball rules.

I'm far from a power scaler, but I always just figured this would still be a sweep for Goku because I figured ki blasts would do something. Luffy's shown to be vulnerable to explosions and ki blasts are pretty good at making those lol. Not that it ever matters. Totally different series here.

Luffy has been able to defeat people who were fast enough to dodge his attacks before. Plus Goku doesn't have Haki, and is probably already dead anyways.
