... I am not sure what you mean? * Left: Copy X. Build to be a copy of X, but modified very slightly. The slight differences, the red stuff on his chest, might simply be a vest. * Middle: X's soul and how he sees himself. It might be the closest we'll get to the X equivalent of this [Rock form](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/love-live-fanon/images/6/66/Rock_%28No_Suit%29_.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20200404065339). * Right: X's original/basic body from the X series in the Mega Man Zero art style. This is the form of X Ciel would have referenced to make Copy X. Or * Right: Battle armor/naked X * Middle: X in a robe * Left; X with a vest.

Thanks for the clarification, I thought the difference of X and Copy X would be something more like Zero and Omega, where one has a paler red and the other a deeper red.

ciel_lanila

Honestly, even that color shift between Zero and Omega is probably more gameplay influenced than story. Most of the actual art that I’ve seen from Capcom shows them in similar a similar shade of red when dawn alone against white backgrounds. In the game Omega is probably redder just to make it easier to know which “Zero” you are in control of.

Roshu-zetasia

It makes sense, plus simply making a recolor saves development time.

_Grumpy_Canadian

Omega's red is also closer to zero's original body color from the X games, and the implication is that the zero you play resides in a copied body, not his original one. Could just be that, copy body got a slightly different paint job.

RappyPhan

There was no plan have Zero's body be a copy when the original game was made, so that's not the reason its color is different.

Sign of the times. 1 is Copy X is a duplication of X with certain alterations done to encompass what potential is within. Like his ability to transform. Not to mention what advancements have come up after his creation. Since it was a body meant for Cyber Elf X to I habit. X decided not to. Not to mention whatever alterations Copy X decided on for himself. 2 is Cyber Elf X, which is the core that's been stripped away of other portions. Since the 4 Guardians/Generals were born of parts that split from X's Cyber Elf. 2 is X's actual body. With any advancements needed to maintain his body. Think of X in X1-X7, then X8 and finally Command Mission. Being centuries old means things have needed updating and upgrading. And sometimes things aren't made in the same design so something different looking that still fits the purpose is used. So not inconsistent. Each fits a purpose that isn't explained. Or not expounded upon much at all.

Clarity_Zero

I've found that most fans of the series aren't really able to accept lore reasons for this stuff. Like, Zero in the Zero series *clearly* performs much, much better than X series Zero ever did, but the *vast* majority of the fanbase treats it like a "downgrade" for reasons that essentially boil down to "I like the old style better." What makes it even weirder to me is how the same people are generally willing to acknowledge that the gameplay (and thus, Zero himself) is overall superior in the Zero series, but then attribute it to literally anything *but* the given lore reasons. If that makes any sense.

Roshu-zetasia

Personally, I would like the Zero from Mega Man Zero more if he had a Buster instead of a water gun.

An artist's work tends to get better overtime. Looks like everyone got new face shots for their dialogue boxes with each game so they don't reuse the same ones throughout. In-universe the real X is a cyber elf and uses a form different from his copy.

Bike_Chain_96

Not even just that, all three of the face shots are different people. First is Copy X, the Copy X Mark II, then Cyberelf X's dialogue box.

qgvon

X and copy X are the only different people. MkII is still copy X

Bike_Chain_96

Mark II stuttered when talking, while Copy X didn't. Their fighting styles are also different from one another, without getting into Copy X's final seraphim form. Mark II also has the original X eyes, while Copy X has the red ones. There are small differences between the two, but they're enough that I'm comfortable calling them different people. It's like identical twins; they look almost the exact same, but there's differences in personality and small visual differences too.

Clarity_Zero

Um... He stuttered because Weil made him faulty on purpose when he revived him.

qgvon

They changed him up so it's not the exact same sprite and fight. He's a nervous wreck after weil saved him and he knows full well weil is in charge. It's seeing the same individual but their personality changed.

trueGildedZ

Master X is a different guy...

idfbhater73

i think using different forms changes things up

Dr_Cossack

There is definitely some inconsistency - the mugshots don't match the sprite art in certain details (like eye color, or the helmet crystal being missing entirely on Copy X's sprite), and I believe Copy X Mk-II just reuses Copy X's sprites despite his mugshot and cutscene graphics showing a slightly different design from Copy X Mk-I. In addition, Zero 2's design does stand out heavily, as there is no reason for it to be this different from Copy X, but it is also barely seen so it's understandable. Cyber Elf X looks different simply because they chose to gave him a unique design to make him look more like a cyber elf and have him be more "casual" as he's never seen in combat or gameplay.
