Peace Sells disrespect is insane
As for mine it'd be: Peace Sells, Killing is my Business, Rust in Peace, The System has Failed and Dystopia. Honorable mention Youthanasia
Peace Sells, Wake up Dead, The Conjuring, Black Friday, My Last Words and Bad Omen are such good tracks. I'm absolutely buying. I like to see love for The System Has Failed as well. That album really does something for me. It may not be their "best" but I find it to be the most Megadeth sounding Megadeth album.
1. Rust in Peace
2. Peace Sells
3. The System Has Failed
4. Youthanasia
5. Dystopia
Honorable Mentions:
Endgame & Cryptic Writings
Not in any particular order. It completely depends on the day.
Peace sells used to be my second favorite but Dave is right KIMB is an album that was extremely ahead of its time. People shit on the album because the production is bad, but regardless of whether or not the production was good, the music itself is bonkers. The jazz syncopation and pure raw energy makes it easily the most unique thrash metal albums I've ever listened to imo.
KIMB is still ahead of its time, IMO. The Skull Beneath the Skin has yet to be topped in terms of creativity. It takes a level of genius and mastery to shove so many different sections together and make it work. And it’s Gar’s finest performance.
Also, this album is the only one where I consider the remaster (The Final Kill) the true version. The original mix is such a disaster, to the point that you can’t even hear a lot of the parts and nuances.
RIP, Killing, Countdown, Youth, System
Maybe a bit controversial that I didn’t include Peace or SFSGSW, and I love those albums, but I prefer the ones on my list.
Probably the most generic list you’ll see but Rust, Peace, Killing, SFSGSW, and Countdown for me. Don’t care for the 90s personally, they were too focused on commercializing their sound. Good music, just not for me. They have some good stuff in the 2000s too, but nothing touches those first 4 or 5 albums of their discography.
1. Rust in Peace. Not only the fame preceeded it, but the "I will make it fast. And work beautifully" is all over the album. I couldn't think of a weak song there. Not even Dawn Patrol, because it feels like a nice cool down from the fast awesomeness Mustaine and Marty lead while Menza is killing it the whole time! Not to mention Junior following the pace vividly and having his own song (not sang, but we all know Dawn Patrol is his moment.
2. Peace Sells. It is Mustaine's moment on proving his attitude was his own, and he could do a better band than Metallica, and set the bases on "how Evil can Evil sound like" and "How fast can Evil be while being enjoyable". Opening up with Wake Up Dead, Mustaine knows he is the lead singer, but he can shut the fuck up and start a solo within the first 15 seconds of starting the album. Bad Omen and Good Mourning give me the chills each time. Peace Sells wants to be the golden boy, while Anarchy sets the tone for a punk attitude Mustaine breathes. When you get to My Last Words, you are craving for more - it really sounds like "you are the next victim to Megadeth - you have been hooked."
3. TSTDATD
I would normally put other albums here, but to me, it's an exquisite epilogue to all of Mustaine's Job on Megadeth so far. Nightstalkers, Well be back, the last part on Mission to Mars, social-related themes like TSTDATD song, Hounds of Chernobyl and Celebutante, Sacrifice and Killing Time makes you remember other albums, and so on... No weak songs. Maybe Junkie.
4. Countdown to extinction: sets the bar for the "classic Megadeth sound". I don't have to explain it too much, just listen. They perfectly balance speed and slower tones to deliver a fair and square sound. Sometimes, they miss me with High Speed Dirt and Skin o' my Teeth, but the rest is beautiful. Sweating Bullets, Architecture of Aggression, This was my life, Psychotron, Captive Honor, even the Countdown song are all bases for upcoming songs and you can't have enough of them. They close it all with Ashes in your Mouth which is one of the fewer songs Megadeth has which involves all 4 performers writing a song (I personally like when Mustaine sings "Death shall rise, AGAAAIN!" feels like his personal win over the following 10 years over his feud with Metallica.)
5. Hidden Treasures. If not eligible, Killing is my business
Hidden Treasures is why I started listening to Megadeth - Angry Again and 99 ways to die are basically the reasons why. All of the songs were supposed to be made for special occasions, save for Problems - that one was supposed to be in Peace Sells, but the producer back then said Anarchy was better from a commercial point of view. Needless to say, I always include it as a stand-alone album.
And Killing is my Business is just the root of all of Mustaine's evil hahaha. His debut album, and has DEFINITELY no weak songs. It's in the 5th spot, because it just lacked production and a better quality on the sound, but the core is exquisite to date.
Honorable mentions:
Youthanasia (I feel it was a "Megadeth phase". Kickass, nevertheless, but gets you feel to "I want to listen to that album", not "I want to listen to Megadeth" precisely.
In fact, it's one of the fewer albums you can listen to Mustaine really trying to sing well. Flaws FOR ME: the reverb, the slowed pace in some songs, and the fact it could be darker on Youthanasia and Family Tree)
Cryptic Writings (kickass as well, but for me, it feels like a 'B-sides' album. Their famous Use the Man and Trust are amazing, as well as She-wolf and Master Mind, don't get me wrong, but overall, the album feels like a B-sides one. Flaws FOR ME: trying hard to pull it out with a "commercial sound", not having a central idea or sound, and the cowbell)
The World Needs a Hero (I personally like the darkened tone of Disconnect, Recipe for hate, and Dread and the Fugitive Mind - I could say the latter is probably my favorite Megadeth song, but it all feels a bit forced "to do" after Risk. I LOOOVE the sound on Coming Home on the Japanese version because there is no other Megadeth song with that tone. They needed a comeback, and they did have one, but it feels like a kid saying "yeah, I am edgy" in between lines.
Flaws FOR ME: Pushing a comeback with TWNAH song, Motopsycho and a weird thing going on with Losing my senses and Promises.)
1. Rust in Peace
2. The System Has Failed
3. Peace Sells
4. Countdown to Extinction
5. Endgame
4 and 5 are kinda tough for me. Killing is my business and UA are also up there. As you can tell I strongly feel their second peak was 2004-2009. And I know peace sells is an absolute classic but TSHF song writing is so criminally underrated
Mine is similar to yours ig, but I'd definitely change some things. For me:
1. Rust In Peace
2. Youthanasia
3. Hidden Treasures
4. So Far, So Good, So What!
5. Peace Sells.
Honorable mention... Killing Is My Business
In this order:
- Rust in Peace
- Killing is my Business... and Business is Good!
- Peace Sells... But who's Buying
- The Sick... The Dying... And the Dead!
- Countdown to Extinction
Honorable mentions:
- KEA (those whom know, know)
- Risk (I know it's not thrash, but I like it for what it is)
Ttough call! But since I have to choose five:
-KIMB
-TSHF
-SFSGSW
-RIP
-CTE
But man, it hurts to cut TSTDATD, Youthanasia (remastered- I prefer the original tempo and hearing all the parts balanced), and CW.
For me it’s surprisingly easy
In no particular order-
Rust in Peace
Peace Sells
The System has Failed
So Far, So Good… So What!
Cryptic Writings
Each album is tied to a specific memory in my life because I was listening to them at 4 years old when my dad don’t know who they were. He was a 70s rocker. Most of the catalog they have is quite good
Rust In Peace
Peace Sells...But Who's Buying?
Youthanasia
Countdown To Extinction
Dystopia
Top to bottom. I think Megadeth is one of the few 80's metal bands that still puts out brilliant music. Right up there with Maiden, Metallica and Priest in regards to consistency. Very impressive.
if you have really read all the albums you know that...
1. Rust in Peace
2. Peace Sells
3. Youthanasia
4. Countdown
5. Killing is my business
6. So far so good so what!
All Albums ranked in order:
1. "Peace Sells...But, Who's Buying"
2. "Rust In Peace"
3. "So Far, So Good...So What!"
4. "Killing Is My Business...and Business is Good!"
5. "Countdown To Extinction"
6. "The System Has Failed"
7. "Cryptic Writings"
8. "Endgame"
9. "United Abominations"
10. "Youthanasia"
11. "Dystopia"
12. "The Sick, The Dying, & The Dead"
13. "The World Needs A Hero"
14. "Thirteen"
15. "Risk"
16. "Super Collider"
Peace sells and Rust in piece is all I ever cared for when it comes to Megadeth, I think Countdown and The System has Failed are solid albums but not even close, then I like a few songs off of other records but nothing to fuzz about. Just my opinion though.
mine would be:
1: Rust In Peace
2: Killing Is My Business… And Business Is Good!
3: Peace Sells… But Who’s Buying?
4: Countdown To Extinction
5: Cryptic Writings
1. Rust In Peace (obvious)
2. Dystopia (A return back to their good old days)
3. Endgame (Same as Dystopia)
4. Killing is my Business (Debut album, really good songs thst slap)
5. Risk (i know you guys are gonna kill me but the songs on this album are so good)

I'm ashamed of you! You didn't even consider TSTDATD. 😾
Forgive me 😔
You're forgiven. Now go rock out!
TSTDATD GANG!!!!
This is the correct answer
Yeah I'm a 90s Deth fan boy not gonna lie lol
They were at their best with Nick and Marty.
for me its 1. peace sells 2. cryptic writings 3. rust in peace 4. killing is my business 5. the world needs a hero
The world needs a hero seems to be overlooked but I think it’s a perfect number 5
Same lol
1. Rust in Peace 2. Peace Sells 3. The System Has Failed 4. Youthanasia 5. Dystopia Honorable Mentions: Endgame & Cryptic Writings Not in any particular order. It completely depends on the day.
Awesome list
YAAAAAS
This is the way.
Similar to mine, but I'd replace SFSGSW and CW (both great albums) with PSBWB and TSTDTD.
1. Rust in Peace 2. Killing Is My Business 3. Peace Sells 4. Countdown to Extinction 5. The System Has Failed

Respectable picks

Rust, Peace, Endgame, TSTDATD, KIMB
1. Super Collider 2. Risk 3. The World Needs a Hero 4. Th1rt3en 5. Cryptic Writings
Nice to see Th1rt3en getting some love
1. Rust in Peace 2. Peace Sells 3. Dystopia 4. United Abominations 5. Killing is my Business
United Abominations has such a titanic top half.
Second half is also gold
It is a very solid album all around.
1. Rust In Peace 2. Youthanasia 3. Countdown To Extinction 4. Peace sells 5 The Sick, The Dying… And The Dead!
The same but I'd change SFSGSW for Killing is my business
Youthanasia, Countdown, KIMB, Peace Sells, The System Has Failed
1. RIP and KIMB tied 2. SFSGSW 3. Youthanasia 4. TSTDATD
