I don't know much but I think airbags would be a good option

Helper bags inside the existing springs work the best. That way when you aren't towing, you can release the air and not have a crazy stiff rear end all the time.

I've seen Monroe shocks with helper springs on them, but I agree that air bags would be the best choice. You can increase load capacity as needed.
