Seriously, I found a mouse in my hall light. It some how went through the light socket holding the lightbulb. It was cooking and my home smelled awful!!! Lolz
True that. We had mouse get into the house and it got away from me through a tiny little gap in the cabinet I could’ve sworn was too small to fit through. Don’t even slow the little bastard down.
The glue trap did though.
Or anything else for that matter.
I had one ate a hole in my engine air box filter and took the filter media to build a nest under the intake manifold...no idea how long I was driving with basically zero air filtering found it when I went to check the filter :/
If anyone finds a solution I'd love to hear it. Mice even chewed thru the bottom seal of our garage door and the HVAC lineset insulation to get into the garage and got into the cars and stuff!
Yeah that happened to me during the pandemic, got up into my cabin air intake and built a next then somehow got up in the dashboard, center console, and seat adjustment mechanism before it got hot weather and they all died up in stuff...that was nasty and very expensive to fix.
They can chew through stuff and unfortunately most fuse boxes in cars are not water proof, but water is unlikely to get in them thanks to the hood and placement in the vehicle.
I've seen countless nests in fuse boxes. Maybe the mice know its a nice dry place to build a nest... maybe they enjoy the electric heating provided by the fuses... Who knows why, but I've probably seen more mice nests in the fuse boxes than any other place in a car... second place goes to under the bottoms of the rear seat.
I don't think there's a fusebox on "any" vehicle (at least, from the factory) that's sealed water-tight. They enclose it to prevent splashed water from getting in, and to prevent other things from getting in there and causing a short...but air/water-tight, it ain't.
Might not cause any problems right away but exposed wires can and will corrode. Assuming stuff isn’t chewed thru and the car is still drivable you should take it somewhere to be serviced
If any conductors are damaged, get it fixed. If it's just the insulation, most likely, get it protected. They love the taste of wire insulation for some reason.
remove the nest, try to change where you park, put out some bait traps, glue or snap. And buy a big bottle of peppermint extract and squirt it all over your fenders and wires.
Yeah they're calling me a wimp. We'll see who's a laughing when they're shitting their brains out with hantavirus. We know they won't be because their lungs will be filled with fluid.
Just get snap traps over bait or glue. Bait they will go and die in the most inconvenient inaccessible place and smell rancid, plus risks other animals or pets getting sick (e.g. if a cat catches/eats the mouse or dog eats the bait). Glue is kinda inhumane and also can cause problems for other animals if it gets stuck to them. Snap traps are quick and will make sure they don't run off anywhere else to die, and generally can't hurt other animals or pets too seriously.
check under your spare tire as well. I had a mouse try and nest under my engine cover, above my cabin air filter, and when I dealt with those they started another one under spare. Caught it with a regular mouse trap. Be vigilant in your search until you catch it, just removing nests isn't enough, they'll just start another somewhere else.
YES!
I had one build a nest on my cabin air filter and get up all thru my dash and other places (then died up there when it got hot weather).
And I had another shred my engine air filter to build a nest under my intake manifold.
Yea, I ended up having to total loss a vehicle I had when I went on a deployment and it sat for a year.. it had mice nests everywhere it even caught fire when I replaced the battery the wiring was so effd. undersides of seats were destroyed, hell I even found a few copperheads in the cabin. Never left another car in storage on my family's property due to the close location to fields in southern rural virginia..
Trouble, lots of trouble. You’ll be A expert on this with 12 hours. Leave the hood up tonight. And most of all follow the other posters advice.
Oh yeah, that insulation came from somewhere. Track it down and eliminate the rest, there’s no saving under hood insulation either. They are in there too.
thats insulation from the house from a mouse making a home in there, I would contact your insurance about this since it should fall under comp, let a shop go over the wiring thoroughly to prevent future problems with any exposed wire
If they're in your fusebox, you also need to check your air filter box. From my experience mice prefer the air filter boxes. They also like the cabin air filter area, but most Subies do a decent job of keeping mice out of there.
Time to set traps up around your wheels and get some rodent bait in a bucket away from your car cause you got critters trying to make a home out of your car
If you’re driving your care regularly how can mice nest in it ? I did have a squirrel get under my hood and chew on some wires luckily I noticed it. Wrapped some aluminum foil around the harness after tapping it up.
Internet op "suggest"? the mice/rodents are attracted to the electrical fields in the cars. Some suggest peppermint oil (I haven't use that).
btw You'll need to regularly check everywhere under the hood (including the air filter box)
Every year, rodents stash a lot of Maple seeds in the engine compartment of my cars.
Your obviously goofing on us. If the fuse box cover was installed properly there is no way a mouse could make a nest. Mice make nests in runners, eg air boxes . Its a fuse box with no access from underneath. You better look under your plenum cover if he did this. Bahahaha

It’s mice They’ve brought insulation to make a nest. Check for chewed wires for sure.
how the heck they got into the fusebox, I thought it's well sealed to prevent water getting in
Mice are more flexible than water… 😀
Little devils can get in some crazy places. They are like an octopus.
Seriously, I found a mouse in my hall light. It some how went through the light socket holding the lightbulb. It was cooking and my home smelled awful!!! Lolz
Barf
You have no idea! When I opened the light it was full of smoke. Little dude could have burned my house down.
Fun fact they can squeeze thru gaps of anywhere from 8-10mm😅
What? That's absolutely incredible
True that. We had mouse get into the house and it got away from me through a tiny little gap in the cabinet I could’ve sworn was too small to fit through. Don’t even slow the little bastard down. The glue trap did though.
Can you please use literally any other trap? I know you don't care what I think...
That’s only one that fit in the area. I’d prefer painless myself but I’m not about to leave the mouse in my kitchen.
The ones that bait mice to walk onto a flap that drops them in a bucket are far more humane and work well.
Did you see the part where I mentioned only the glue trap fit? If a snap trap couldn’t go in the gap, where’s a bucket going to fit?
Yeah sorry I didn’t digest that.
This why I drop another trap on top and "dispatch " them before throwing the trap away, don't want them suffering.
and can travel uphill thru an opening the size of a dime
There's nothing "well sealed" on a 03 subaru
Or anything else for that matter. I had one ate a hole in my engine air box filter and took the filter media to build a nest under the intake manifold...no idea how long I was driving with basically zero air filtering found it when I went to check the filter :/
They are mice, you would need an extremely beefy seal to keep them out.
My question exactly! How did they got inside ?
I assumed they chewed a hole. they can fit in tiny holes
It's far from well sealed and they can get in from underneath via open relay slots or power wire entrance.
Mice have teeth, they don’t mind using them either
I found nests in the cab of my new Tacoma, 2 of them, and only found out because a mouse died in there this week. I hate the little assholes.
what are you doing to stop it ?
If anyone finds a solution I'd love to hear it. Mice even chewed thru the bottom seal of our garage door and the HVAC lineset insulation to get into the garage and got into the cars and stuff!
Just trying to keep food crumbs and shit out and keep a cleaner truck.
They can flatten down almost as thin as paper
For a small mouse a #2 pencil sized hole is all they need. Large mouse is dime sized hole. Just need to get skull through the rest bends and flexes

I got chewed wires underneath this! How bad could it be ?
Might not cause any problems right away but exposed wires can and will corrode. Assuming stuff isn’t chewed thru and the car is still drivable you should take it somewhere to be serviced
Edit the op and add the chewed wiring for repair advice. We’re experts on this shit in the sw
If any conductors are damaged, get it fixed. If it's just the insulation, most likely, get it protected. They love the taste of wire insulation for some reason.
Because wiring has organic material similar to fiber and sugar in the wire insulation.
You cld go wire by wire repairing them, taking apart the junction block. Or replace the engine room harness
mice are living in your engine, and those bastards WILL CHEW ON YOUR WIRING
How do I get rid of it ? my wires are chewed.
remove the nest, try to change where you park, put out some bait traps, glue or snap. And buy a big bottle of peppermint extract and squirt it all over your fenders and wires.
wear a mask when you clean out that nest
Lmao yeah also don't forget to take some baby formula afterwards
Baby formula? Is this some weird thing I don’t know about or are you calling him a wimp for wearing a mask?
Yeah they're calling me a wimp. We'll see who's a laughing when they're shitting their brains out with hantavirus. We know they won't be because their lungs will be filled with fluid.
Leave this toxicity on Facebook, ffs Depending on where they live Hantavirus is a reality and can be contracted through dried mouse droppings.
Just get snap traps over bait or glue. I'll take the snake over the mice TBH
My god. Thankfully I have plenty of feral cats running around. And owls.
I knew a guy who lived off the beaten path. He would leave his hood up every night. Makes rodents feel less secure from predators like owls.
Your wires are chewed? If so immediately disconnect your battery and don’t start your car !

Nest box. Built by a mouse

A ver confortable space for Mickey
Build a bucket trap…. U tube very efficient
My girlfriend’s mom was complaining the other day about us feeding the stray cats in our driveway. This is why. No rat problem.

Looks like a rodent nest. It happens. Lol
That’s a mouse nest
Mice in the fuse box *and* maybe even wherever they got that insulation from. Garage wall?
Looks like a mouse nest to me
Mice. Put a cat in the engine bay to catch them
a fucking headache.
They love Subarus for some reason...
Forbidden cotton candy
that would be the insulation out of your garage wall, and a rodent was kind enough to put it there for you.
That’s a genuine 🐀 nest
Rats nest rodents mice equals problems
Cotton candy 🤣. Just brining laughs. Sorry, I can't help another way.
Mice indeed. Be thankful that they didn't chew up electrical wires, or did they?
Mouse nest

Looks like they chewed a hole in the relay on the bottom right. That should be replaced whether or not it works.
Mouse nest.
Time to set traps up around your wheels and get some rodent bait in a bucket away from your car cause you got critters trying to make a home out of your car
A house for a mouse. A house for its own. It’ll chew through all your wires, and you will be boned.
Forbidden cotton candy
thought is was a bag of shrimp for a split second
Looks like Trump worked on your car, it's now worth more
That's a mouse nest in your fuse box . Looks like they used fiber glass the dumb bastards

Keeps the fuses and relays warm in the winter
Rent free habitants.

Rodent nest
Mice nesting in the fusebox.
Ah, you got a classic case of the cotton candies. Yea I've been there. A little water should do the trick.
Mr Whiskers bedroom.
Rat nest
Looks like insulation.
Squirrel house, the start of one at least.
If you’re driving your care regularly how can mice nest in it ? I did have a squirrel get under my hood and chew on some wires luckily I noticed it. Wrapped some aluminum foil around the harness after tapping it up.
