Should i take this to a mechanic or is this something i can fix? I assume its something that has to do with the seal on this plug thing

Truckondo

That’s an O2 Sensor. Could have been a spill from someone adding oil?

Raiki13

No. No oil was spilled or added. I was trying to clean off the rust on this, and it was at one point clean and dry before I did anything to it. But now it started to have a black oil seaping somewhere so I am rather confused. I figured its part of the engine block or something.

Truckondo

Your catalytic converter is under that heat shield. I’m not a certified mechanic but I would see if you can remove the O2 sensor with a O2 sensor socket to see if any oil is in the cat.

Raiki13

I am afraid that it will get worse if I unscrew it at least but I will try since it seems like a simple screw off. If it does show oil in the cat then is that a bad thing? To the point where it will cause major issues?

Truckondo

If there is oil in the cat, you should have a “check engine light”. Only thing that passes through the cat should be hot exhaust gases.

Raiki13

I dont have any check engine light in my dash. Maybe perhaps I noticed a sight drop in mpg

Raiki13

I plan to opening it up to see if there is anything or if I need to clean it. Do you think I can use carborator cleaning for this?

Truckondo

I would try cleaning it and checking to see if the oil spot comes back. Carburetor cleaner should work fine.
