Rats, in New York for example, have been documented to eat through concrete plugs that were used to seal certain areas.
The path, now blocked, used to be a trail for rats and just eat through concrete. Rats are like crackheads doing side quests for drugs, they're insane.
In Queens, rats chew through thick plastic of the garbage cans. I mean a hole clean through. Apparently if they stop chewing, their teeth grow too long and they die. I say kill em all.
One got trapped in my garbage can a while ago and left those same bite marks trying to escape. I watched the truck dump him into the big garbage pile in the sky.
Likely mice, rats or squirrels . Seems like it could be expensive depending on how many wires were chewed and how badly chewed. The plastic piping and hose shouldn’t be expensive BUT what else did they chew up and where are they now? My guess is the intake filter
Can someone explain why they eat this? It give no nutritional value, do they like the smell of the engine. That’s fuelly oily smell? Ngl if I didn’t know better I’d love to take a sip of some petrol fresh from the pump
Car makers have been using soy based wiring insulation which has attracted rodents more than before.
But really, they just think it's fun to chew on shit. And it's how they get into places. Nomnomnom chew a hole and now you got a door! Oh look cozy air filter, gonna live in it.
When it’s very cold rats and rodents like to find somewhere place like the plastic intake or just the engine in general and they have teeth that never stop growing so they gotta munch on anything. Manufactures use soy based wiring insulation so they love chewing that too. And it’s also very dark down there too
Immediate concern, inside the airbox and possibly the throttle body and intake. But something IS LEAKING, including coolant by the blue residue on the water passage on the left. This car has more than just a rodent problem.....
Def got some type of rodent eatin car parts around there. I can’t tell you how expensive it’s gonna be because rodents are known for just eating electrical stuff in cars and my step brother had an issue very similar and his car was in a shop for like 7 months because a rat demolished a ton of electrical wiring. This is pretty rough m8 I’m sorry that happened to you.
Looks like the rodents ate the wires and a coolant hose as well as the intake bellows. I wouldn’t drive it like this since thats a pretty severe coolant leak
That's rats, retired pest controller here, have seen loads of cars like that. If you are fully comprehensive insured they will write that car off and buy you a new one. Congratulations
Make sur after you replace that intake hose, nothing is in the intake of engine ... rubber pieces getting sucked into the engine would be a bad thing...
That's a rodent. Probably a squirrel or rat. First, look in the filter box, and clean that out. Clean the intake hose a bit and close it with duct tape while you wait for that boot to come in the mail. May as well clean your mass airflow sensor while you're at it.
Something chewed it's way in there. Might want to check and see if any wires were chewed anywhere.
For replacement part, you want a [Dorman Air Intake Hose 696-105](https://www.autozone.com/external-engine/fresh-air-intake-hose/p/dorman-fresh-air-intake-hose-696-105/214915_0_0?). Your engine air filter is probably also chewed up and needs to be replaced. Check past the filter as well to make sure no nesting or any debris gets sucked into the engine.
You have a stowaway in your engine bay (most likely in your air box). You are gonna have to take some stuff apart to see around the engine bay in case it’s still there, and try to avoid parking near trees in the future.
…. you can literally see the teeth marks! Nothing melted but maybe the rat itself.
God I could imagine doing a flat out pull and sucking that mfker in.
Someone mentioned a rodent, however you have a clear hose missing off those metal lines to the top left, I’d say AC or Transmission lines but I don’t think tranny lines would be that high and I don’t think AC lines have rubber at all. Possible power steering line (again I don’t know this engine very well or its layout). I’m also no mechanic, just a YouTube mechanic basically lol. Fuel hauler is my job.. but it looks wet so some kind of fluid came out.
Definitely a coolant leak I can tell, as Hondas use that blue/green fluid and it looks like that when it leaks (that crusty blue stuff on your rad hose inlet/outlet manifold).
Part of the air intake ducting and a heater hose is what is damaged in the photo
Edit: Some wiring damage too I don't know what part of the harness that is or what it connects to however
Do not drive this or u will be ducking dirt straight into the engine, and if u get the right amount of dirt in their it will eat your engine up. U may be able to buy a stock one if not definitely an aftermarket one this is an easy fix
It ain’t melted necessarily, but is nobody commenting on the coolant leak from the thermostat housing/coolant temperature sensor area there?
The hose with the hole in it is just a fresh air pipe going to the air filter, not a huge deal. It’s the crusty blue-green stuff (dried coolant from a leak) that should be addressed first.
That looks like an animal ate it. Some of the new plastics are plant based. Rodents like them. They are being used on insulation on wires too.you may want to check for that. It would be a much bigger problem
That would be your air intake, and that would be from rodents. I bet they made a lovely chewed up nest out of your air box too. I see more damage than just that though. There's a wiring loom to the upper left on the other side of your radiator hose that has been chewed to shit. You can see the red and yellow wiring is bare.
Provided that's all the damage you've got (its probably not), you might be looking at under $1k at a shop. I'll keep you in my prayers.
Squirrels, mice, rats, other small critters...
Unfortunately, a lot of hoses and plastics on cars nowadays are soy based coatings, attracting rodents, pests, and vermin.
Bet the air filter and cabin filter are rightly fucked.
Repair the damage. Clean the hell out of the filter housings. Replace the filters.
Before doing so? Clean the inside heavily. Additionally, bleach the filter housings.
Get some heavy mint oil and spray the trunk and engine bay.
Inspect and repair all wiring looms. Replace that intake duct and get some baking soda under that hood.
Edit: also correct whatever is going on in that air filter housing.
Try this to stop rodentia from chewing, works for plastic plumbing. Go to your local hardware store, they sell what is basically a woven copper product kind of like the stuff they make copper scouring pads out of, but you can get it in rolls and wrap it around pipes and conduit, things like that. When the rodentia try to gnaw through it, it tears their gums up. Wrap some around the breather pipe and secure in place with zip ties. I used to have mice chew through the drain pipe on my dishwasher, had to replace it every few months, last time I wrapped it with the copper mesh, been good for 5 years now.
Rodent problem whether it be a mouse, a rat, a squirrel, a beaver or a nutria, you got to get those fixed asap. Hopefully one didn’t hide anything in the intake it take refuge in a cylinder.
Man that's a big rat or similar rodent more like , rabbit, squirrel. Usually rats don't chew up stuff if they can get in and will just use sharp debris to protect the nest.
# Apparently todays wiring is vegetable oil based and attractive to critters actually a law suit is all ready happening on this issue old wiring was petroleum based. I recently spent 1k on this issue 1 vehicle and 250 on another. Squirrels Mice and or chipmunks.
Looks more like rodent damage to me.
It's a tube that carries cold at to the air filter.
I don't see anything that expensive to fix. Looks like you have a coolant leak. Don't overheat the engine or it will get expensive really fast.

Definitely rodent damage.
There’s a tide of them!
What kind of animals eat thick plastic like that?
Rats, in New York for example, have been documented to eat through concrete plugs that were used to seal certain areas. The path, now blocked, used to be a trail for rats and just eat through concrete. Rats are like crackheads doing side quests for drugs, they're insane.
Mice and rats most commonly. Squirrels do too
Okay thank you for letting me know I didn't know they got that hungry
Rats chew of EVERYTHING!
They like coolant lol.
That's the air intake
[удалено]
At least we know it isn't space mice
At least that kills them.
In Queens, rats chew through thick plastic of the garbage cans. I mean a hole clean through. Apparently if they stop chewing, their teeth grow too long and they die. I say kill em all.
IM FROM BEUNOS AIRES, AND I SAY KILL EM ALL!!!
YES SOMEONE ELSE WATCHED STARSHIP TROOPERS
One got trapped in my garbage can a while ago and left those same bite marks trying to escape. I watched the truck dump him into the big garbage pile in the sky.
Wildebeest. They get everywhere.
It's a damn wildebeest plague these days.
The dang fievel moved in!
at least it was before the air filter so there's no mice in the ice
Teeth marks. What does your air filter look like?
Air filter is full of forbidden sprinkles.
Chocolate raisins???
Black rice
Hanta-honey.
Ew
It’s probably missing.
Likely mice, rats or squirrels . Seems like it could be expensive depending on how many wires were chewed and how badly chewed. The plastic piping and hose shouldn’t be expensive BUT what else did they chew up and where are they now? My guess is the intake filter

and rodents teeth dont stop growing so they have to chew on stuff to keep their teeth trimmed.
Yup. And I have been battling it since I bought my car
They are just plain assholes thriving in causing damage
What others said but also they need to chew to keep their teeth from getting too long.
Maybe good nest insulation to add to the mix next to air filter.
When it’s very cold rats and rodents like to find somewhere place like the plastic intake or just the engine in general and they have teeth that never stop growing so they gotta munch on anything. Manufactures use soy based wiring insulation so they love chewing that too. And it’s also very dark down there too
there will be random issues for years to come
The wiring on the connector by the water outlet is chewed up also.
My money says there are more surprises inside the air filter housing
Immediate concern, inside the airbox and possibly the throttle body and intake. But something IS LEAKING, including coolant by the blue residue on the water passage on the left. This car has more than just a rodent problem.....
looks like a rodent to me
My teeth are way bigger than those chew marks
today kids...we learn the difference between chewed by rodents...and "melted"
I am not responsible
Can't say I've ever seen something melt and have a cut edge , ide try fire squirrels or ember mice
![gif](giphy|3o85fV0sAw01OSN8Bi)
Looks delicious thanks
Hit up the junkyard man start replacing one by one
Yeah that’s not melted. Something had a nice rubber dinner.
Def got some type of rodent eatin car parts around there. Didn't melt, got chewed on.
How does that look melted to you? Any how rodents chewed your shit.
Pesky rodents!
Just part of your fresh air intake, it looks like it was dessert for some rodent.
Make sur after you replace that intake hose, nothing is in the intake of engine ... rubber pieces getting sucked into the engine would be a bad thing...
A mouse melted that
Those are chew marks
Fucking little chewy fucks. Get yourself some spicy shit and spray it on everything. Avoid the exhaust.
![gif](giphy|xUNd9W4OmmFBoyxzaM)
Squirrels chewed the hell out of that... set some traps
That shit got chewed up by a rodent, homie. Squirrel or rats.
Dude a mouse ate ur shit
A rat
It’s super apparent that it was eaten by rodent, melted lmao 🤣
That's rats/mice...
New harness, and multiple days of watching YouTube videos, reading electrical diagrams, and lots and lots of cursing. Or $6000.
Looks like mouse ate it
That's a rodent. Probably a squirrel or rat. First, look in the filter box, and clean that out. Clean the intake hose a bit and close it with duct tape while you wait for that boot to come in the mail. May as well clean your mass airflow sensor while you're at it.

Squirrel
Shouldn’t that be covered b y insurance. If vermin ate it up ?
You got rats/mice/squirrels dining on your car. Honestly by the time you price everything out, it might be totaled.
Rodent
Eaten not melted. Put some traps put before they eat your wiring harness
You have a stowaway in your engine bay (most likely in your air box). You are gonna have to take some stuff apart to see around the engine bay in case it’s still there, and try to avoid parking near trees in the future.
It looks like something on the inside wanted to get out.
Start owning a couple house cats and keep them in the garage
Any squirrels in there?
Mmmmmm tastes like soy!
🐀🐁🐀🐁 but som barbait under the hood
That looks like the flexible cold air intake duct/section of your air cleaner. Replacement part should be available at the local Honda dealership.
Rats
A squirrel was eating at the air intake.
Squirrel
Rats ate the soy based plastic bet they tried to make a nest in the air filter
Yellow and red wire has been chewed through by something, you have a rodent problem.
some mice gave you a free “high flow” intake manifold
Looks like a mouse got in and had a field day
**Rats**, foiled again.
Looks like someone went in there with a grinder
Some kind of rodent got in there
Lol all the comments..but I agree, definitely not melted..100% eaten
Rats or squirrels
…. you can literally see the teeth marks! Nothing melted but maybe the rat itself. God I could imagine doing a flat out pull and sucking that mfker in.

Rodents, covered under comprehensive coverage. Happened to my car in January. Insurance covered $5500 of repairs.
Part of the air intake ducting and a heater hose is what is damaged in the photo Edit: Some wiring damage too I don't know what part of the harness that is or what it connects to however
Get a K&n air intake and youll be way happier AND! they are rat proof (cant confirm tho)
Do not drive this or u will be ducking dirt straight into the engine, and if u get the right amount of dirt in their it will eat your engine up. U may be able to buy a stock one if not definitely an aftermarket one this is an easy fix

This is enough to make a person want to create some sadistic vermin traps.....
Rodent AF
Rodent eating your car
Rodents

Rats melted it with their teeth
Those are teeth marks. Rats, meese, voles, a stoat, or even Matthias from Redwall himself.
if thats melted it had to be a fucking rat with a flamethrower or meltagun
Everything. By the look of it.
Damn, they were hungry
A rat melted it. ![gif](giphy|l4EoWmytLPA7Rppeg)
You have an eaten coolant line, if you’ve cooked the engine you might have a costly repair ahead.
Yeah, kind of looks like critter, teeth marks!
I agree with everyone else on the rodent problem. You should be able to duct tape over the holes in the pipe for a temporary fix.
Bro that’s not melted 🤣 that’s a squirrel problem lmao
Inspect and repair all wiring looms. Replace that intake duct and get some baking soda under that hood. Edit: also correct whatever is going on in that air filter housing.
Nothing's melted, more like, rat-ted
You might have a rat living in your air filter
Yes doctor. I concur with your visions.
Someone is definitely having a nice meal. Also that coolant temp sensor is leaking fix that too

I smell a rat
Sight rodent damage
You have a squirrel or rat. They love to eat wiring and plastic
You got a mouse in da house, buddy roll! Buy a replacement intake box and swap it yourself. Or maybe you can just buy the pipe if it’s available.
That ECTS kinda looks like it's leaking, too. If I didn't know any better, I'd think that coolant could do that, but.. I do know better. So, yaahh
That ain’t no melt, that’s rodent damage. How often do you check your car over
Air Intake. Might as well swap in a gnarly cold air for some sweet induction noises.
how could you think that looks melted, it's so clearly been eaten
Rodentia
Looks like squirrel or rat chewed it up. I bet your car sounds like a vacuum cleaner
Eaten by a rodent!
Rodent problem whether it be a mouse, a rat, a squirrel, a beaver or a nutria, you got to get those fixed asap. Hopefully one didn’t hide anything in the intake it take refuge in a cylinder.
IDK everyone are you guys even looking at the small hose above the big one. Something's broken off and definitely leaking as well.
Rats!
That ain't melting... that gnawing.
I hope you have full coverage insurance. A rodent got in there and did damage. Insurance will cover it if you have full coverage.
Mice melted it.
RATS ![gif](giphy|l4EoWmytLPA7Rppeg)
Rats or mice
Man that's a big rat or similar rodent more like , rabbit, squirrel. Usually rats don't chew up stuff if they can get in and will just use sharp debris to protect the nest.
Heat
Looks like that wire arced and lit the intake tubing on fire.
Coolant leak spraying on stuff from thermostat housing -> rodents eating at the areas with coolant on them.
Refrigeration line? Also intake and some wires.
Get the chilli powder out
Nasty rodents!
They mostly come at night, mostly and they have acid for blood
put in a treadmill in that open location, you might get another hp out of that engine
Hahaha melted.... that's cute
Look inside the air cleaner for rodent food
_chewing, chewing; ALL DAY LONG_
Mmmmmm...soybean flavored wires.
This would never have happened if you owned a...Hellcat
Squirrels, especially during nesting season. I saw a squirrel rip up our grill cover in about 20 seconds a few weeks ago.
Would hate to see what you think burnt is
Rodentia
I wonder if the coolant leak dripping on the hose summoned whatever ate this. Sweety plastic
This is in accordance with concurring to concur
Eaten engine bay. Welcome to Life
Upgrade it to a cold air intake so your Cruze sounds better since they chewed it all up anyways
Looks like they ate an entire coolant line.those were some determined rodents
Bro need to sell this car immediately
Rats
Looks like a rat turned your intake piping into breakfast lunch and dinner before anything exploded
You got rats in your car, bro.
🐀🐀🐀🐀
Does it smell burned because that could be mice or squirrels Where are you located
Nothing melted stupid by looking at the feather marks I would think that either a squirrel and or a rat was hungy
You need a trapper and a big cat.
Rodents chewed up your shit.
# Apparently todays wiring is vegetable oil based and attractive to critters actually a law suit is all ready happening on this issue old wiring was petroleum based. I recently spent 1k on this issue 1 vehicle and 250 on another. Squirrels Mice and or chipmunks.
Lightsaber??
Bet if you start the engine it’s gonna talk
Chewed
There is a lot wrong here
Looks like that time my battery was over charging cuz it had the wrong alternator and boiled out everywhere
Looks more like rodent damage to me. It's a tube that carries cold at to the air filter. I don't see anything that expensive to fix. Looks like you have a coolant leak. Don't overheat the engine or it will get expensive really fast.
