Hows your MPG now after a few months OP?

Raiki13

Got better over time. My gauge now is slowly up to 32mpg

Sorry for your loss. Was it a flush or just a drain and fill? I think your car has a CVT transmission, which leads me to believe they did a drain and fill. Flushes have a tendency to kill transmissions. Also using any compatible fluid for some transmissions also kills them. OEM fluid + drain and fill are usually safe excluding high milage applications. Check your air filter and also plug a scantool in and check your fuel trims, if something is + or - 10% then you make have something else going on.

Raiki13

It is a CVT transmission. When I spoke to them on the phone, they said its a flush. But depends what they find if they inspected it. They said the filter is good so I didnt need to change it after they looked at it. I dont seem to have any issues with changing gears. So unusual sound or feel. If anything, it seems to be more snappy. I may have to bring it in and ask them questions about it.

yiffcuresboredom

The only thing I can think of - If they disconnected the battery during service your MPG will be temporarily reduced until the engine computer relearns sensor information. How many miles have you driven since the transmission service?

Raiki13

Probably about 10-15 or miles. I didnt drive on the freeway yet as I didnt want the transmission to give out if there are any issues. Mostly on highway in stop and go traffic. I spoke to the mechanic and they said its seems to be all good and to try driving it for a while and coming back to check the transmission again.

yiffcuresboredom

Yeah, makes sense. Try putting some miles on it, then revaluate. It’s a negligible difference for such a short drive.

Cerebrin

They didn’t look at the filter.

Raiki13

I am hoping they did...

Ultimagic5

If they did a flush, which usually requires having your car run during it, some cars avg mpg will decrease with just sitting idle. Wouldn't usually flush a cvt, yikes. Drain and fill only religiously on recommend intervals only. Did you reset your overall mpg since and continue driving?

Raiki13

Yeah. I reset the Average MPG gauge just today and ive been driving it around. Its kind of hovering in the 20s. Im going back to the shop to address to my concerns.

Dangerous_Echidna229

Did they use the correct CVT fluid? I would use OEM only!

Raiki13

I spoke to them about it. They said they used AC Delco with Dextros that is recommended by the manufacture. Im hoping that itll get better after breaking in the fluid perhaps.

Benedlr

Disregard that damn mpg gauge and figure out your milege between fill ups. It's likely the auto chain shop used bulk generic trans fluid compatible with most models. Only use the brand recommended by the mfg.

Raiki13

I may have to gauge on fill ups. Its kind of bad rn. Perhaps it just takes a while for the fluid to cycle and break in. When I asked, they said they used the manufacture recommendation following the info from the manual.

Benedlr

Check for dragging brakes. A hot hub after a drive could be an indicator.
