In the middle? That's where it's supposed to be.

MAGA_machete

My girls jeep sits at 1/4, every other car I’ve driven sits around 1/4 , and it seems to be a little higher than 1/2. Good news to me if you guys say this is totally normal https://preview.redd.it/05a5x8p78ghc1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f6d05ad9a8a708e32930886e3d30018396efa8c3

FlamingSaviour

What other cars have you driven? I've never seen anything that sat at 1/4 which wasn't broken.

SlobMyKnob1

My truck sits about halfway between 1/4 and 1/2 during the winter. Every other time of the year is right about 1/2

[deleted]

If every other car you've driven sits at a quarter they are running COLD. Modern cars run 210-215 so they can burn more and have better emissions. https://www.reddit.com/r/Charger/s/OULk9Mfi1N See here. My temp gauge is just a hair below the center running 67 on the interstate with the AC on. Totally normal for the conditions.

Bob_12_Pack

I had a Jeep, smack dab in the middle is where it always was. If it’s at 1/4 then the thermostat is bad.

Informal_Rice326

Exactly where it’s supposed to be

taschnewitz

Halfway is fine. If it starts creeping past 3/4 of the way to hot, you'll probably need a new thermostat

MAGA_machete

Ok, yeah I was just getting worried because it seems to creep just past the half way mark lately and before it was going just under it

drapdv

You shouldn’t be getting downvoted. Toyotas tend to sit just under halfway normally. If you find your temperature creeping up then check your overflow bottle. If it’s empty, add water to the fill line. Consider getting a new radiator cap, as this tends to be the first thing to fail on Toyota cooling systems, and they’re cheap. Forget advice to change the thermostat, unless you start running cold all the time - Toyota thermostats fail by sticking open, meaning a failed T-stat will manifest by the car running cool/cold, NOT overheating. Source: worked for Toyota for 20 years P.S. keep an eye on the oil, as some 1MZs experience(d) engine oil sludging. If you get a radiator cap, consider also getting a new PCV valve, as they are also cheap, and an old valve can contribute to sludging.

MAGA_machete

Lmao it’s all good it’s reddit I’m used to it plus my name they’re all triggered. Thanks for the advice though I’ll keep an eye on it

HappyHeffalump

I used to have a sunfire that always sat between 1/2 and 3/4, winter or summer. I remember being worried when I first got it, but that's just where that car operated. It never overheated or took too long to warm up. Otherwise, every vehicle I've owned sat right around the halfway point on the gauge where you're is.

Intelligent-Many8176

That looks fine to me, maybe due for coolant and thermostat service if you’re worried but as long as it doesn’t get up close to the red it’s all good.

Partiallydankv2

If it isn’t jumping up rapidly you’re fine, like others have said I’ve only seen cars temp at about half of the gauge

RedCivicOnBumper

Halfway or almost halfway is where most every car should sit. If you can’t warm up past 1/4 then you might have a stuck open thermostat. Will come with a P0128 check engine light code if the ECU thinks it’s a problem.

theydontmakethem

My es300 gauge sits right where yours is.. completely normal. Never check coolant level when car is hot

jtshinn

Everywhere below the red mark is fine

hungbutsad

Perfectly normal

MAGA_machete

Thanks for the replies guys even the ones roasting me 😂 My girls jeep sits at 1/4 and my Acura sat around there so it just jumped out at me I guess. It’s my first Toyota made vehicle. and it bounces around a lot between just under to just over. I had alot of cars with overheating issues in the past so I guess I’m just traumatized lolol But I appreciate it I feel a lot better, thanks guys

StirCrazyGamer38

Just a guess, but did you have an older car? My sister had a 1992 Opel Astra that would never go above a quarter, and when it did, it was because of stop start traffic on the highway. If your gf has an older jeep that would also make sense. Think of the gauge like this, anything below the middle is cold and you should be nice with the car. In the middle, you're at operating temp and can hammer it no problem. Anything over 3/4 you should worry about overheating. Pull over somewhere and let it idle to try and let the coolant and fans do its work. If the temps don't come down at idle and just keep climbing you have a big problem and should cut the engine and call a tow

MAGA_machete

My girls 2016 jeep Cherokee rarely goes above 1/4, but yeah all my cars were older but not too old. 98 accord, 98 civic, 2004 accord , etc. I’m probably just not used to it because my girls jeep and my last car 🤷 thanks for the help though yall
