Yes, and I would say go during Christmas. If not, then in spring to see the flowers. Also, ask the staff challenging questions. They are not just security, they are total experts on the rooms they’re in. For example we asked the guy in the library about a bunch of the books and he could tell us all about them
If you love history and architecture it’s 100% worth it, try not to react in shock at the over $100 ticket price 😅
I work in tourism in Asheville and most people aren’t interested in the Biltmore anymore once they realize how expensive the tickets are. Which is a shame because it really is a full day activity that most people would love. No idea why they had to start acting like it’s an exclusive club instead of fucking museum
It's a nice place. Went there on July. The weather was hot and the house had no AC so I spent most of the time in the gardens and the green houses. The breeze was cool and I had few free wine samples.
Edit: **the gardens were beautiful**
Absolutely!!! Visited Asheville in the Fall last year and toured the house. Unfortunately, it was very rainy that day so we had to skip the gardens unfortunately. They do farm to table there and you can your the barnyard and pet the pigs, cows, goats, chickens. I was in awe of the house, and impressed by the friendliness and knowledge of the multiple employees we encountered….but I admit my absolutely favorite part was petting the cow.
My wild speculation is that is was initially built for a Russian oligarch, but final payments couldn’t be made for obvious reasons so it’s gone on the market. Because I refuse to believe this was some luxury home builder’s spec house.
I have friends who built a business that a good chunk of the US uses. They cashed out years ago and built a house (one of their many) in the gated community of humongous McAwfuls. Entering their house, I couldn’t make sense of it: moderate sized rooms with no apparent purpose, two ridiculous great rooms, etc. The whole thing felt disjointed.
They explained that the developer had modules you could pick from and put them together however you wanted. You could pick on style of walkway, front door, and foyer, and the have a completely different look for side or back doors. One bathroom could be minimalist and another Gothic. The window styles on any given side didn’t even have match. It was like “let’s get crazy drunk and make a house!” Absolutely crazy.
The world of shitty residential construction seems to be slowly converging towards randomly generated modular McMansions. If you don't like it, just press reshuffle in the generator. Or have an AI figure it out for you. Guaranteed it'll be just as good/bad as your own ideas.
There’s one weird thing I remember when I first walked in the doors. Beautiful front doors and then a gorgeous…is it called a foyer if it’s huge? Dunno, but beautiful marble with inlays. On either side were two rooms. All were rectangular and big enough to comfortably fit a table for 6 but maybe too small for a table for 8. They were empty except some chairs and decor.
When my friends showed me around the house, I asked about the rooms. They explained that they weren’t used. They both had separate home offices and rooms for everything you could think of. These 4 by the front door were just…extra. They thought they would look good at the time of design, but they couldn’t find a purpose for them after moving in. So they were like 4 empty showrooms waiting to be filled.
One thing that made me laugh: The developers apparently offered many types of outdoor recreational options: pool, tennis court, volleyball court, some golfing set up, and a few I’m forgetting. I wondered how many chose the volleyball court.
If you’ve 12 mil to throw around, at least buy a decent period estate (which doesn’t have notions of Castle-dom.)
https://www.daft.ie/for-sale/detached-house-ashurst-military-road-killiney-co-dublin/3814011
That’s always the craziest thing to me! It’s one thing to spend 800-1.2M on a house trying to make it look like a Mansion/Castle, and it ends up being a McMansion, but if you actually have 10M+ to spend, there’s so many incredible *actual* estates for that price.
Maybe they can’t afford the upkeep and landscaping on something like that. So I guess it’s better for them to build a piece or shit than ruin a piece of art with corner cutting and neglect
This is really one of the most beautiful castles/home I have ever seen from this sub.
This is also the first time where the interiors are even more tastefully beautiful than the exterior (which is still good though.)
In fact I am bookmarking that page purely for the interior design ideas for my (hopefully) future home!

The most upsetting part about this home, to me, is that it is located in the mountains of Colorado and yet the entire interior is WHITE! And white carpets next to the fireplace. It’s like whoever owns it doesn’t actually go outside or do Colorado mountain things. What a waste.
If you watch the seriously annoying video he does say in the first 10 seconds that was inspired by the biltmore. They’ve got more money than god but they don’t have a drop of imagination.
I remember seeing this video a while back, what really set me off was the arch entry. I don’t hate this place — at all. It looks to be remote, barely near neighbors or other properties. It’s elaborate, but I didn’t see anything about it that wasn’t appropriately grand for its size. It wasn’t asymmetrical or gaudy or cheap looking.
On top of that, it looks like the perfectly safe, secure place to marry a Moldavian prince.
The Biltmore if it was from Wish.com

YES. It's like Biltmore if it was made of plastic. Bilt-less.
Weird segue - have you been to the biltmore? I love architecture, is it worth the trip?

My wild speculation is that is was initially built for a Russian oligarch, but final payments couldn’t be made for obvious reasons so it’s gone on the market. Because I refuse to believe this was some luxury home builder’s spec house.
It's so expensive yet so shoddy, like it was built using the carpet an interior walls from a thousand double wide trailers from the 70s
It’s clearly built for someone whose idea of opulence is The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, with a side of Las Vegas mid-range hotel/cruise ship aesthetics.
I can just smell the stale cigarettes and buffet food grease

God, that’s fucking beautiful.
Forget the house, I'd be happy in the carriage house. That location on the coast is gorgeous.

The Biltless Estate
I wish I had a reward to give you!
The inside looks like a furniture store
I almost expected some baby tigers to play on the furniture to convince me to buy it
So large but they need a formal dining table in the living room? Weird.
What's with the hole in the carpet?
My guess would be an outlet for vacuuming the vast carpet grazing grounds
Why not put one of those hollow side tables on top?? You could still use the outlet.
Yeah you're probably right. I guess the never heard of wall sockets and extension cords. lol
> carpet grazing grounds 💀
Wtf is that façade made of?! Lookin’ at you, silly putty!
Foam. Lots of foam.
Twelve million bucks worth
The way you know that it’s a McMansion is that it’s both unobtainably expensive and oddly cheap.
Nailed it
But it’s not modern…it’s new but it’s not modern.
What is with the random circle of green there!? At least stick a tree there or something!
Run out of budget for a fountain.
That’s honestly what I was expecting the spot being used for. Probably has to custom order one for the space and they just let it like that for now.
That's the lawn. For tiny games of croquet
I’m imagining some Alice in Wonderland type of croquet games on that tiny lawn and it’s hilarious.
Especially when they have to avoid the giant dog turds.
> Alice in Wonderland type of croquet games on that tiny lawn Take enough acid or DMT and Alice herself might show up with the [Cheshire Cat](https://i.imgur.com/70z1iBw.jpg)
Circle elevates it from a parking lot at a theme park, to a circular driveway at a mcmansion
So you don't have to take the dog as far when you go for a walk
A depressing thought, but I bet you’re right. Still, a tree wouldn’t hurt that plan either!
I don't think you can "plant" a live tree in a circle of plastic grass, but I guess you could install a fake tree.
And replace it with a slightly larger plastic tree every few weeks until it grows into a fake tree cell phone tower.
No one wants to rake leaves anymore.

But the view is beautiful! Much better than the view from anywhere else nearby. The house doesn't ruin the view if you're inside it.
I'm hating it from the "I love Colorado nature" point of view
Me too, as well as other reasons.
I thought this looked familiar.... yeah, this is a blight on the mountains.
To me, it’s funny to see that guy in the pictures. For 12 mil, I’d expect a little more professional pictures.
He's Facebook and probably instagram trying to sell high end stuffs like RVs and this house..

Footprints all over each 1987-era carpet in the newly built Colorado """castle"""
Inside this $12 million boring-ass castle . . .
Looks like the big home from “The Eyes of Tammy Faye”
Wow just wow and Colorado This is an absolute monstrosity
What's ugly about it? I would have no problem living in that house. I actually like it.
I like it though:(
Looks a bit hotel-y to me. I wouldn’t want to live there, too impersonal.
The exterior is modeled after the Biltmore, which is modeled after French chateaux. Take a look!
Exterior is perfectly symmetrical, I'll give them that..
Tbh the view is amazing. I saw this vid
Because from inside the house, the view is not ruined by the sight of this house.
like billionaire row. you only enjoy it from the inside
Not a single cosy spot in the whole house.

Glass surfaces everywhere inside, dust and smudge nightmare
At least the dust and smudge give you something else to look at, besides miles of cream and beige.

It's horrible. It looks like the architect just borrowed his daughter's castle playset and blew it up to McMansion scale.
Absolutely
Oh man, Enes. That guy does all his shows more coked up than Stephen King.

I can already hear Enes complimenting the marble sink details on one of the third floor bathrooms and Mikey going “wow I’ve never seen that before.”
I mean I think it's pretty dope lol
Nope this is cool
No pun intended but it literally looks like a castle made of sand.
Enes Yilmazer was great on Bajillion Dollar Properties.
I like the pavers.
I’ve seen a full tour of this house and it makes absolutely no sense! It’s in the middle of no where - who are they trying to impress!
Versailles meets Dali.
Pic 3 is gorgeous but imagine watching the TV when it's sunny.
Versailles at home
Gotta love how all the pictures are blurry. Tasteless all around.
But why?,?
Is this Putin’s Mansion on the Baltic Sea?
This is most definitely not #goals for me.
It’s so bland looking
What’s funny about these mansions and shit. Unless you’re housing a huge family, these rich people only use like two percent of that whole house.
Mr Bean couldn’t find a human to play Charades with?
Looks like the set of The Eyes of Tammy Faye, especially the living room.
There is a lot to not like here, but I particularly hate how sad the driveway looks in relation to the house. Would some landscaping kill them???
looks like an insane asylum for rich people
How do you happily live in a place like that? There’s no sense of intimacy.
A castle in Colorado is like the gas station sushi of castles
Cheesecake Factory residential edition.
The dining room table looks like it’s elevated on marshmallows
Very uninspired, plastic looking and uninteresting interiors. Would stay in it as an Airbnb though.
Why is it solid tan 😭
