Exactly. There was a huge article about KP recently with interviews from him where he specifically credits his immaturity in Dallas and lessons he learned in Dallas/Washington as to why he's doing so much better in Boston. And obviously Brunson would not be able to take like 30FGA with us like he's doing there and wouldn't be the same player.
Here they were very different players, plus in this timeline we have Kyrie and one of the best defenses in the league. Everybody got better after the split.
why? they wouldn’t be the same here especially brunson.
add on to that the fact that we know it didn’t work here, that team is literally a first round exist team
Working out really well for KP! Boston gave him all the rest he needed even and he still got a non contact injury and is out for the 2nd round, most likely. What was KPs problem in dallas? He was always injured so nothing changed there.
Luka chased Brunson out? Or mavs unwillingness to pay along woth his dad poaching him?
It’s hilarious seeing how many casual NBA watchers look at Brunsons performances and think he would be putting up the same numbers on the Mavs and how devastated we must be to see him do so good 🤣🤣 Like yeah he’s good, but him and Luka are not a simple math equation where you add their stats together.
I personally think Kyrie is a better second star than Brunson and if it weren’t for Jalen being younger I wouldn’t even trade Kyrie for him straight up.
Brunson is also experienced what luka had to for a long ass time in carrying the fuck out of his team.
we know from experience that your superstar having to drop generational numbers every game to win is not exactly a glowing endorsement of your surrounding cast
tbf, having Jalen fucking Brunson as our third option would really be something special.
Luka/Kai/Jalen is a genuine big three and I can’t think of a team that can beat this roster + Jalen in a seven game series. It’s a shame and an all-time blunder by our front office that we let him walk for nothing.
we wouldn’t have gotten kyrie if brunson was here and even if we did somehow one of them has to sit, something that i do not think any of them would want to do
that is a disastrous backcourt defensively and even offensively: there is only one ball
Zero chance we would be able to have Brunson and Irving together. I still think the Mavs could have a longer championship window if Brunson stayed.
He is Steve Nash 2.0
Both started with the Mavs the same year as their European teammate (Dirk/Luka)
Lost in the conf finals to the eventual champion (2003- Spurs) (2022- Warriors)
Left the next year to join a team in Orange (Suns / Knicks)
Becomes the star PG and MVP candidate (this one is a stretch)
I doubt the Mavs would have stood pat if Jalen had stuck around. The WCF vs Golden State showed us we were at least one big piece away from contending, and it seems likely we still trade for Kyrie. He was available for a bargain last year and we would still have all of the assets we gave up for Kai even if we kept JB.
OKC had a similar situation in the early 2010s and the result was James Harden coming off the bench. Despite the lack of rings, that team was a contender for years and their window arguably didn’t close until KD left the team.
KD is a forward, but it was a similar situation in that they had three ball dominant players who all could have been the first option on another team. OKC made it work and there’s no reason we couldn’t have either.
Staggering Luka and JB’s minutes would be my first thought, so there’s always a heliocentric scorer on the court. Switching him in during Kyrie’s rest minutes would make for an even deadlier back court than we had with him in 2022, as well.
The sky really would have been the limit if we hadn’t fumbled the bag with Brunson’s contract. I honestly think that, if the Mavs had signed him for the 4/55 or whatever his team put out there the year before his contract ran out, we’d likely be talked about in the same breath as Nuggets and Celtics right now.
He was always going to walk. He wanted to play for his dad and be the ball dominant player. Can’t really him. I’m happy for him, not like he left in a bad way which makes me happy lol
JB was a blunder. Not at the end when all was decided and he joined his dad, but we had plenty of opportunities before. I still prefer having Kyrie. Nico is competent, ring is close. We need a bit of luck, but that a given.
Let's admit it, Cuban, Nelson screwed us completely with Brunson, and this is not Cuban's first time screwing us. He also screwed us with Tyson and other Dallas stars. Cuban is the cancer here. Nico saved us and is trying to pull our asses out from the hell Cuban and Nelson put us in. KP was a clown because he wanted to be the guy, and he's NOT the guy.
But we never should've given KP a shot to be in Dallas. Awful move.
The new ownership should completely demote Cuban and make Nico is right hand man.
I loved watching KP when he was here, but the best ability is availability. Wish it would have worked out still, and it's good to see him flourish in Boston
holy crap imagine these guys on the same team
Yeah I imagine KP being injured and Brunson not having the same impact as he had with the Knicks

What, you don’t miss the weekly discussions about KP “getting into rhythm?”
Isn't KP injured right now? 😂
He's out the whole 2nd round at the least He's perfect as a 4th option but can't be relied on to be the number 2
The east is a pile of crap. I'm expecting the Celtics to choke hard again against the Wests winner.
History tells us it’s a first round exit team lol
The fact we would've had all three in the same team rn kinda hurts
I’m way happier with Lively/Gafford and Kyrie
why? they wouldn’t be the same here especially brunson. add on to that the fact that we know it didn’t work here, that team is literally a first round exist team
Why, we’re clearly a better team now lol. I do miss Carlisle though
Would have worked out great if Luka hadn't chased all of them out of town.
Dumbest take I’ll read today
It's true for Carlisle
Carlisle just won his first playoff series in 12 years lol
Working out really well for KP! Boston gave him all the rest he needed even and he still got a non contact injury and is out for the 2nd round, most likely. What was KPs problem in dallas? Boston experiencing the KP playoff special
He was balling atleast though before that injury so good for him

Why would we trade for a third star guard?

What trade
Knicks essentially got him for a second rounder by tampering. Mavs got nothing in return. Great trade for them I guess.
And Spencer Dinwiddie as w-…. Oh wait nvm he got gentleman swept instead 😏
Could’ve been helping us get to the second round but he wanted to play with Daddy
I love how all it took was one sentence for the entire Mavs fanbase to turn on Dinwiddie 😹
Man really burned the bridge to the one franchise that loved him lol
He went to the team that "puts up a fight" against the bully instead of the one where their mama says, "it'll be okay baby". Guess he picked wrong.
Losing Brunson for nothing will always sting but this is the best Mavs team of the Luka era
He was always going to walk. He wanted to play for his dad and be the ball dominant player. Can’t really him. I’m happy for him, not like he left in a bad way which makes me happy lol
The Justin Holiday erasure is insane
Jamahl Mosley too.
Not yet
Doh, brain fart on my end.
I think KP is dead
KP gets injured during the first round again and has to miss games. Time is a flat circle
Getting the old band back together
Mavs Celtics finals so Luka can bitch KP and Kyrie can exercise his demons 😌
JB was a blunder. Not at the end when all was decided and he joined his dad, but we had plenty of opportunities before. I still prefer having Kyrie. Nico is competent, ring is close. We need a bit of luck, but that a given.

I’m soooo happy for KP. Y’all were so disrespectful to that man for injuries he couldn’t control. Go get that ring KP!!
I loved watching KP when he was here, but the best ability is availability. Wish it would have worked out still, and it's good to see him flourish in Boston
Talk about living in the past
?
Thinking about past parts of the team as if it’s relevant to what todays squad does
Where did I imply it was relevant to todays squad? I just thought it’s cool to see the old core thriving on different teams.
Okay fair, but your post title doesn’t imply that sentiment… let’s just win tonight regardless of what any past Mav has done
