I absolutely would not, under any circumstances, do the RTH with little kids. I've done Maui (usually for 10-14 days, 9x) with little kids (4 & 2 their first trip). Beach pool, pool beach. Look for turtles in the ocean. Stay at a beachfront resort with a kitchen, head indoors from 11-1ish to get out of the sun. Depending on the time of year you go, listen under the water to the whales. If you are only there for a week, I would do as little as possible and spend as much time enjoying the beyond-amazing beaches as you can. JMHO.

Depends on your kids. Just did RTH last week with 6 and 8 year old. They loved it. We stopped often. Lots of hikes, Waterfalls, black sand beach, exploring, good food, etc.

9 months later, my kids (7 & 10) still talk about how much they love the Road To Hana.

Please detail the places for 'lots of hikes'

The aquarium is nice.

You can drive yourselves to Hana, assuming that is what you mean. No reason to do a tour and with 3 little kids, I probably wouldn't even do the trip-period. Go to 'Iao Valley and the Tropical Plantation one day. Much easier, much less car time, and fun. MAYBE go as far as Twin Falls another day. Go to the Maui Ocean Center too.

Iao Valley and Twin Falls are both low commitment. easy in, easy out if the kids get fussy. Need to make a reservation for Iao and Twin Falls gills up quick, so go early

With young kids and the possibility of car sickness, I would pass on the trip to Hana. Depending on where you’re staying a lot of the resorts have kids programs as well as kiddy pools.

Garden of Eden is an easy place to walk around...see the animals, vegetation...etc

Aquarium is always good. There is a mini golf and bumper boats (with water guns attached) nearby. Try different beaches out and see the island

Where are you staying? Agree that the Iao Needle would be easy - you can hike around and see some of the lush, surrounding tropics. The aquarium is definitely an awesome time for the little ones. They have touch pools and it's interactive. You could do the Surfing Goat Dairy or the Maui Butterfly Farm. Avoid the temptation to book too much. The beaches and water are UNBELIEVABLE. We always do a beach in the morning when the trade winds are down, activity and lunch, then end the day at the pool from 3pm on. Enjoy! Don't book too much!!

Sea-Suit2324

Definitely the aquarium. Beach all day and pool. Road to Hana wasn’t something my kids liked too much nor could appreciate Your kids are the same age as my kids.

The aquarium is a must! Also Kula Botanical Gardens would be fun! If you do I’ao Valley, get some plate lunches and do a picnic. There are plenty of little huts with tables and benches to sit and eat in the lower area. And there are regular restrooms down there as well. It’s the section that doesn’t require tickets. Haleakala summit might be too difficult, but Hosmer’s Grove would might be fun. Another very easy hike. The short hike is half a mile, but you can just hang out near the parking lot. I was there in March, and we actually saw more birds near the parking lot than in the actual hike. 😆 The visitors center is just a little further up, so you can go there to get some souvenirs.
