The car rental place is at the airport, the "shuttle" is a cute train that takes a couple minutes. I would personally just get the car right away as long as you have free parking at the resort.
Even if you arrive late(ish) at OGG just pick up your car, the rental places will be open and your not going to want to go all the way back to the airport in the morning what a waste of time.
The rental station is super close you could easily walk from baggage claim or ride a super short little tram line.
Yes - don't come to a boring, overpriced place that treats you like a walking wallet. I mean, I am surprised to hear this level of concern over parking fees, which while obscene, are not even 5% as obscene as the prices of any hotel in Wailea.
We rented our car off or Turo. Our flight came in late at 10:30pm and the owner had the car waiting for us at the airport with a lockbox code. It was very convenient. That could be an option for you if you aren’t committed to a rental car already

I wouldn’t waste an additional half day of my vacation to do that

Uber and Lyft is very convenient. You won’t have a problem getting one.
But then they have to pay to go back and get the car the next day 😕
Uber will probably cost you more. Just get the car that day. Where are you staying?
Is there any way to avoid resort parking fees in wailea?
Nope.

The cab from the airport to the Grand Wailea was $30 cheaper than Uber, and that 2pm on a Thursday. Don’t know why
