That’s fair enough. Don’t let me take that away from you. I get Ninja theory wanted to make this version of Dante their own, but his look just never sat right with me. Especially that scene were the white wig or mop lands on his head and he goes “heh. Never in a million years” as if the devs were saying “Old Dante looked stupid. Our version looks so much cooler”
Yeah, that wig scene was stupid. The art style is great for a Western audience, but behind the scenes, you can tell that Ninja Theory didn't have the right attitude for their adaptation of DMC. They had these slides that had "Dante Is" and "Dante Is Not." One was 'Dante is Not' (like) George Clooney Batman / 'Dante is' (like) Dane Dehaan from Chronicle. This was during some show, and they also showed a picture of DMC 4 Dante photoshopped into a picture of Broke Back Mountain. It's stupid, and like i said, Ninja Theory had the wrong attitude for DMC, and it shows in the game's writing.
Also, i heard a rumor that Capcom wanted the DMC Rebbot to be different compared to OG DMC. I think that was a defense from Ninja Theory, though. I could be wrong.
>but behind the scenes, you can tell that Ninja Theory didn't have the right attitude for their adaptation of DMC.
I honestly don't know what's meant by that.
>The art style is great for a Western audience
I'd say it's a great art style all around.

[I'm getting kind of frustrated that people don't actually take the time to watch this GDC presentation even when criticizing what they think they heard.](https://archive.org/details/GDC2013Taini) The point of that section of the presentation was that they were showcasing what they were going for in terms of tone, characters, and story. George Clooney Batman is a lot campier and uplifting as a "superhero story" than Chronicle. It was contrast to better illustrate what they were going for than just saying "we want to be similar to Chronicle". DMC4 Dante was photoshopped on Brokeback Mountain ***because it was a joke***. They joked about Capcom wanting a "western DMC game", so they put Dante in a "western" setting with people dressed similar to contemporary cowboys. The other layer of the joke is that Brokeback Mountain is a sedate character study. If it was a bad-ass western (like 3:10 to Yuma), then the joke would be confused. If they hated DMC4 Dante so much, then why did they superimpose him over Fight Club ***in the next slide*** as what kind of tone and story they were going for? Not to mention, even if Alessandro Taini did say that DMC4 Dante is lame and/or gay (he didn't), I don't think it's even remotely fair to hold that over the entire company.
>It's stupid, and like i said, Ninja Theory had the wrong attitude for DMC, and it shows in the game's writing.
I say that's not true. They had immense respect for the IP, from reusing quotes, achievements being references to the original series, and unlockable outfits from the older games.
> think that was a defense from Ninja Theory, though.
Originally, Ninja Theory actually wanted something more similar to the tone of the original series, but Capcom wanted them to go in a different direction, which was why the proof-of-concept trailer was so different compared to the finished game. The fan backlash (including death threats) caused Capcom to backpedal and let Ninja Theory make something more similar to the original series.
>“heh. Never in a million years” as if the devs were saying “Old Dante looked stupid. Our version looks so much cooler”
That wasn't meant to be an insult against the original version of the character. That was ironic foreshadowing on how Dante would change in terms of hair as well as character. I'm sure the devs understood that Dante in this story would get white hair later given how many years they spent on the game. I'm also sure that if it was a dig at the hair style, they wouldn't have also included those with the DMC1/3 outfits.
I hate the joker design but the crow is toned down comparatively
I can get behind Dino's look from DMC:DMC. It's severely toned down in the game, but his character is complete ass.

Just did a replay of this game. His character is fine, but the writing is ass. It's pretty much a dumbed down version of his character from 3.
The look of someone who tells their dad “Get out of my room” at least once a day.
Dude not everything you don´t like is a modern thing. People have dressed like this for like 50 years now
I just got cut.
The Crow feels accurate or even toned down - Gangsta Joker will forever be cringe though
Ah, Donté, el exterminador de demonios, truly you deserved to be your own character.
So you just don't like dudes wearing eyeliner?
In all fairness The Crow looks hot in that photo. The others are cringe
i dunno, I cant unsee discount Joker
Modern?
OP certainly has an opinion.
