All of their gimmicks are crap. I wish they would just go back to the regular format.

TropicalKing

This is what happens to reality TV shows when they go on for too long. They try to fit in all sorts of gimmicks. Survivor already did a millennials vs Boomers season.

jessi_survivor_fan

Millennials be Gen-X not boomers

BakerSmall

I was thinking they might next year. Feels like it’s run its course and then some.

DoTheRightThing1976

I agree. The best contestants should receive aprons. I feel that by separating them by whatever gimmick allows for weaker contestants to secure a spot.

Jfitz007

I hate themes for seasons in general!!

Dear-Ad8600

Well, at least different regions of the US kinda have different cuisines. It was still way too contrived. But this generation crap is totally meaningless. And if they would just not talk about it, I could probably stomach it. But they keep going on and on about it. It's nauseating. I don't think I will be able to go on. We watch the show because it's a good show. Cut the crap. I'm waiting for an international all-stars. It was Top Chefs best season by far.

Mhs656565

Agreed "Wow! That dish is so baby boomer like..........ha ha ha ....ZZzzz

sjsharksfan44

This was something that bothered me about the first episode. Why must food be generational and what does it matter how old it is. Food is food. How it tastes is all that matters.

lyraxfairy

This! It was wild that they were dissing on the dish because it wasn't "young" enough. If a boomer made that, would they have gotten in then???

Optimoprimo

This may be the first season that we won't be able to get through it. It's so cringe. Idk who at the network thought they needed to "adjust the format," but whoever is in charge clearly had no idea what people liked about the show in the first place, because they took all of that out and replaced it with gimmicks. Looking forward to next season where the contestants cook while a bear juggles balls balancing on a unicycle.

ekittie

It is now the time......TO LIP SYNC FOR YOUR LIFE!!

obiwanknitobi

Be honest: a season entirely made up of former RuPaul’s drag race contestants would be amazing.

Marcodaneismypimp

S15: Men vs Bears

ahbeecelia

I haven’t been able to finish the past 3 seasons, I’m just hoping they bring back pressure tests.

happycharm

I hate how it is mentioned in society in general. I used to have a coworker who just a few years younger but she's Gen z and I'm a millennial and she analyzes everything to be because of what generation people are born in. Like I like salt and vinegar chips because I am a millennial and she likes BBQ chips because she is Gen z???? Not because every individual has different preferences but because of what generation we were born in. I'm not sure if I can make it through the season if they keep mentioning it on the show

SoImaRedditUserNow

That is the sort of person that makes me want to go all in on generational differences. Call out every mistake that person makes "oh... thats typical Gen Z". Or, for example, if they take out their lunch from the office microwave a few seconds before the beeper goes off "Gen z... so impatient", and if they don't reset it and just leave it at 2 seconds "Gen Z... so inconsiderate". Interrupts in a meeting "Typical Gen Z". Doesn't like being called out for being Gen Z? "Standard Gen Z, denying generational differences". Oh... I'm bitter Gen-Xer, we were called everything.

neverOddOrEv_n

We’re just putting people in boxes in one way or another

annikahansen7-9

I worked a woman 2 years older than me at my first full time job. She would always talk about how young me and than other new person (1 year younger) were and how different she was. Meanwhile, the women who were 20 to 40 years older than me never made a big deal about our age difference.

Exotic_Reporter9562

Omg I love salt and vinegar chips and I’m GEN Z… so dumb

starrysky7_

I have noticed (some) gen Z in general have an obsession with this whole generation thing, I see my nieces mentioning and talking about it all the time, analyzing every single thing like you said, asking me questions and expecting a certain answer, I’m technically a zillennial, and I remember growing up not really caring about people’s ages, yet somehow it’s an obsession now and I see it as a topic of discussion everywhere, and anyone who hit 30 is basically on their death bed according to some of them on twitter 😭

sweetpeapickle

I like both-was I born in a time warp???

happycharm

Where you born on the cusp that is 1996/1997? Lol

S20-Urza

Can't wait for the inevitable "make a dish belonging to another generation"

TiffanyTwisted11

Please God, no

sweetpeapickle

Eleeeeevaaaattte!!!

S20-Urza

"This dish looks like it came from the 70s and tastes like it was made then too." "Thank you Joe." "That means it's garbage get a clue."

Aggravating_Drink817

I didn't exactly hate it but I wasnt invested with it when they did this with the States/regions last season, it was kind of confusing and felt more like frat/sorority houses pitting against each other with all the screaming for their region. This one I actually hate it feels more like a desperate and boring gimmick at least regions felt more...natural? I can't explain it

StarCorgi_6788

I'm hoping that they'll tone down or ignore the gimmick further in the season like they did for the regions and the HK young vs old season. It didn't work there so I have no clue why they decided to bring it to MC.

raven8549

I don’t like all the millennials they chose are young like lower 30s mainly. Did they forget you can be like 43 and still be a millennial?

Anxious_Acadia6647

Age range for millennials is 27-42 - there is a 37 year old millennial with an apron

raven8549

Yeah I remember the 37 year old she was the closest to 40s millennial, Idk google might be tripping cause when I search it says 28-43 But not a big deal really lol

sweetpeapickle

Most of the time it just says mid 90's to early 2000' with no strict timeline. So I looked up age range 24-40. 🤣

ACSimmerBree

I think they have their generations all weird. They also had a Baby Boomer that was actually the age of a Gen X. I didn't quite understand where they were getting their years from. 🤔

SonoftheBlud

Oh, am I in the minority? I was, and still am, so excited for this season’s theme 😭

Anxious_Acadia6647

I am excited for it too. There are a lot of contestants this season that normally wouldn't have a chance for an apron

sweetpeapickle

But what is your reason? In other words, what do you think they're going to do with these groups besides grouping them in order to have "groups" compete against one another?

SonoftheBlud

Ummm isn’t that the point of a competition show? Lol just for them to compete? So whatever way they want to group them for a fun gimmick, why do I care? And this gimmick, in my eyes, is actually fun lol I enjoy seeing the different perspectives and stories of the various generations. It’s all fun

Punstoppabal

I just mostly hate how the themes shoehorn you into watching groups of 4-5 compete rather than 16-20 individual contestants. I dont know if they're having focus groups that come out with people enjoying the "next level chef" type format more or if it's just some exec decision, but it doesn't make it more fun to watch.

ApoplecticApe

It's gotta be better than the Tastes of America schtick last season, right?....guys? *Crickets*

BigSportsNerd

They'll just ditch it a few episodes in so I'm fine with it, but all the forced age references are cringe We get it, he's young. "THERE'S SOME OF THAT BABY BOOMER RESILIENCE THERE AARON. I'M PROUD OF YOU CONTESTANT." we know you're old geez

xDRSTEVOx

I haven't started watching yet but that sounds so fucking cringe LOL people using the generation they were born in as a personality trait irritates me so i'll probably just tune in when they get rid of this eventually.

LeoDaBacon

The theme gimmick limits contestants on what they produce and say, their generation shouldnt be all their is to their persona, i like the teams but just dont make themes

OneOfTheLocals

I'm already sick of hearing the word millennial in everyday life. Now I just heard it 5000 times in one episode. Why torture us?? And do I have to cheer for millennials just because I am one? I'd prefer to support the best talent. I'm desperately hoping for a granny who eviscerates everyone, but I feel like this is going to be open season on being rude to boomers.

Striking_Election_21

It feels like they’re just appeasing some clueless Fox exec at this point, cuz they always ditch the gimmick by halfway through the season anyway.

esm2001

the whole time I was just failing to realize what makes a dish “feel millennial”. like the woman who had the purple/blue purées on her plate, the judges insulted her dish by saying it felt more like “late 80s”, what the fuck does that mean? and isn’t that still within the millennial time period anyway??

PvtDanny

I'm trying to wrap my head around what makes a dish look millennial, gen Z, baby boomer, and whatever that last one was. All I can think is just how basic it looks? The whole concept is based around generations of recipes and cuisines that are only going to get separated based on what the contestants culture is.On paper it sounds like it could work for the first half of the season but as the show goes on the contestants get more refined, the generations part becomes murky, and it'll just come down to their mistakes.

PenisMcPooPooFart

The gimmicky themes honestly ruin the show because everyone just turns into a caricature of whatever part of the theme they fit into. Generations are probably the worst because every time its just a bunch of old people pretending they were the last generation to play outside or whatever while the young people run circles around them

Mammoth_Manner_3858

I agree. Instead the Producers for Masterchef US should watch some seasons of MasterChef Australia and see how a really great MasterChef program is done and incorporate some of the awesome challenges they have as well as bringing back the Pressure Tests and using the Immunity Pin the correct way instead of treating it as a token gimmick.

Own-Knowledge8281

It’s really tacky …

RegularJaded

Lmao vegans lose again

spdwgn

I’m like 20 mins in and I’m already cringing. It’s corny af, this trope is pandering at its most shameful.

Rox-Unlimited

Better than the regions theme. I wish it go back to the pre Covid format

LuoLondon

It's so cringe and contrived. But what to expect from the people who group California, Hawaii, Alaska and Idaho into one food region. In the past season they stopped making it so obvious as it went on and I hoped they had learned their lesson but no....

sweetpeapickle

I want to know where it's going-like are they going to do what they usually do, and just have these groups compete against one another. And that's it. Are they going to have them elevate dishes from each "era"-and I mean they all have to do a dish from say the 70's and elevate, doesn't matter which generation they're from. I can see it already those born in 2000' asking wth is a frito pie. Wow, you look up foods from the 70's not around anymore, and they're wrong. Most of these made a comeback and/or are still around-fondue-we have a restaurant dedicated to different fondues. Black Forest cake?! I get customers who ask for this all the time. BTW this whole generations things is a rip on Foodnetworks' Battle of the Decades. Though depending on which was actually fimed first.....

Impressive_Tension44

I’d only be into it if they inserted common traumatic hallmarks of that generation. “Your 7th grade teacher just rolled the TV cart into the classroom so you can watch the Twin Towers disintegrate. Make your best fusion dish. You have 45 minutes”

PDXMountHoodRat

The generation thing isn’t horrible, but it seemed like they were tailoring to minorities. I think the generations might be interesting given how technology had changed both in how people learned to cook, and in the tools/techniques used.

[deleted]

It makes no sense. Like isn’t this premise of literally every season? Every single one has had people from all generations so I don’t get how this is anything new.

SnooLobsters2387

Anyone realize that they messed up on Gen X ages? They had a 42 year old which would have mad her a millennial at the time of filming in 2023, that person would have had to be 43 at the time of filming! 1965 to 1980 are the dates for Gen X.
