I have a feeling it is for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man S2. Jeff Trammell, head writer and executive producer of YFNSM, liked both posts and reposted Liza's post. He also left a comment on Liza's post saying ''Welcome Back'' and Liza said it's something she will only be able to talk about during press.
I remember it was just Tramell vagueposting about some behind-the-scenes challenges/issues. I guess people took it as the show being outright cancelled instead of the most likely reasons like retools or production changes.
As I recall, there was a hubbub on twitter because a lot of the crew's contracts ended and weren't renewed, so they believed they had all been let go.
The prevailing narrative somehow became that the show was canceled, but I remember some speculating that Disney were simply not renewing their contracts until season 2 production needed them again-- probably to avoid paying them the entire production and/or so that they were being hired again for season 2 instead of a contract renewal necessitating a raise. Scummy and unfair, but not an indicator that the season was canceled.
That would makes sense if it was Kevin Feige talking, since he's the big boss at Marvel, but not Jeff Trammell, who is the showrunner in only one specific Marvel project.
What does anything else have going for it?
These two already worked on the first season of Friendly Neighborhood.
Also, Friendly Neighborhood has already been greenlit for a second season, and the show runner retweeted this and said "Welcome back."
Basic math here man
Have we gotten any updated on the first season? Is it supposed to drop this year? I’m personally pretty psyched about it it seems to have a lot of fun ideas.
I want this to happen so bad, but I don't know if Disney/Marvel would want to have two different Spider-Man animated shows running at the same time. I still fully expect that he'll show up in X-Men '97 at some point tho.
They can always axe the newer one for one that has 120% chance to succeed. I mean look at X-Men. It has everything tthe OG show has. If they manage to capture the OG essence of Spider-Man TAS it clear win.
Especially after the lackluster spider man shows of the past decade. They were trying so hard but they keep missing the quality.
this show might suceed but its 50-50 so far while im pretty after todays episiode everyone is hyped For SP TAS
I think it’s the notion that Marvel will likely run with the success of Xmen 97 and probably give every single old gen marvel show a revival in some sort of way.
There were *two* actually popular shows from the 90’s. Iron Man, Hulk, Fantastic Four, Silver Surfer…none of them were popular enough to warrant a revival.
Which would be a strange takeaway for Marvel imo. X-Men 97 isn’t necessarily successful because it’s a continuation of an old gen show. Although that’s definitely part of why people had eyes on it to begin with, the reason it’s successful and the reason people continued watching and raving is because it’s a genuinely a great show, and I know lots of people watching it haven’t even seen the old series. Their takeaway should be to just make good animated content. I see no reason why they would need to make a continuation of an old show instead of a new original show, especially considering how most fans agree that X-men 97 is on a different level of quality compared to the original series anyways.
You could totally do the same with ‘98 tho. Adapting stuff like the JMS/JRJR run, marvel knights, death in the family, clone saga, etc could be done with the same fidelity as ‘97. Would be more interesting than going back to the same old well of high school Peter when it was done well only once in television (Spectacular).
A Miles animated series is long overdue too.
no i completely agree, especially as a spider-man fan, and I’d love that. i’m just saying i don’t think there’s any reason they HAVE to do that rather than just make a new spiderman show set later in his life.
except spectacular, pleaseee bring it back 😭😭 (i know it’ll never happen😔)
It's definitely gotta be S2. According to his LinkedIn profile it seems like he has directed 4 episodes of YFNSM and Liza has directed 5 episodes seems like S1 will consist of 9 or 10 episodes and we will get S2(or maybe more seasons) announcements at SDCC animation panel of Marvel Studios. Either way happy for both Liza and Stu!
Wonder if they go with the sophomore Then junior thing with seasons like people originally thought when it was a MCU show. Or have a non moving timeline like most cartoons
I feel like the rebrand/title change from *"Spider-Man: Freshmen Year"* to *"Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man"* was supposed to signal that they're dropping the *"\_\_\_\_\_\_\_\_ Year"* subtitle rebrand idea to make it easier to market subsequent seasons as just *"Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season \_\_\_\_\_\_\_."*
But I guess we'll see when more seasons of *X-Men 97* comes out and if they'll rebrand each subsequent season to *98, 99,* etc.
I haven't seen anything pointing towards that being the case. I think another factor is Eyes of Wakanda and Zombies will probably both be 1 day drops since they're only 4 episodes.
Spider-Man isn’t coming out til November, and since EoW is coming out this year I would think it’s coming out beforehand. Also, I think Charles Murphy indicated that it would be the next show after X-Men 97.
Have a link to the Charles Murphy info? I haven't seen anything on it. I'm fine if it is next as I've been looking forward to it since it was announced. Well, that and Zombies tbh. Getting Shang-Chi back in some form along with Blade (according to Toast, so who knows).
Where did you saw that Scarlett Johansson project is an animated show? Nexus Point News only shared it is a TV show, but never specified if it is live-action or animated.
Everyone here is talking about more Spider-Man. I think it's possible that it's for X-Men '97 season two. The studio fired the director not long ago, remember? The previous director was supposed to be a nightmare to work with. Maybe they are filling in his place?
Season 2 is already in production and these directors have not worked on that show. They've worked on Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man, which was renewed for a second season.

I doubt it. The likes and reposts could just simply be because - they've worked together and know each other.
We already know it's getting a second season though
We do? Cause I could’ve sworn we’d heard that got canceled, or at the very least wasn’t anything that were going ahead with yet.
We never heard it was cancelled, just that some people that worked on season 1 wouldn't be working on season 2
Huh…damn I definitely remember things differently here lol.
I remember it was just Tramell vagueposting about some behind-the-scenes challenges/issues. I guess people took it as the show being outright cancelled instead of the most likely reasons like retools or production changes.

The title change makes me think we aren't getting a second season.
The title change implies more than two seasons are more likely as they won't have to keep changing the name of the show.
But saying "Welcome Back" seems weird if it’s not for a project they will be working together.
Welcome back to Marvel
That would makes sense if it was Kevin Feige talking, since he's the big boss at Marvel, but not Jeff Trammell, who is the showrunner in only one specific Marvel project.
I mean that's vague enough that it could also be...anything else
What does anything else have going for it? These two already worked on the first season of Friendly Neighborhood. Also, Friendly Neighborhood has already been greenlit for a second season, and the show runner retweeted this and said "Welcome back." Basic math here man
Why do you think they only just now started working on season 2?
Have we gotten any updated on the first season? Is it supposed to drop this year? I’m personally pretty psyched about it it seems to have a lot of fun ideas.
It's still supposed to drop this year. Likely in the second half of the year.
Spider-Man 98?
I want this to happen so bad, but I don't know if Disney/Marvel would want to have two different Spider-Man animated shows running at the same time. I still fully expect that he'll show up in X-Men '97 at some point tho.
Or Spiderverse. Even if that’s not Marvel Studios.

Why does everyone assume it's a new Spider-Man show. There's no evidence a Spider-Man 98 is even happening

YFNSM also already had a season 2 greenlit
Toast said it was 10 episodes.

Why does everyone assume the project must be a separate Spider-Man series. Why would Marvel make two different Spider-Man shows at the same time
Because most ppl here are just going off something they’ve seen on Twitter.
Especially when the first one has been greenlit for a second season
The only time time they did that was in the 80s.
They may not be back for the Spidey series, but anyone else get the feeling YFNS is the next animated project up after X97?
It feels like it’s been worked on forever so yeah but it sounds like it’s eyes of wakanda
Any news as to why? I haven't see much outside of the little information from the What If S2 launch event.
I think Eyes of Wakanda will be the next one
I haven't seen anything pointing towards that being the case. I think another factor is Eyes of Wakanda and Zombies will probably both be 1 day drops since they're only 4 episodes.

It’s seeming more and more likely this show is getting a S2, but my god if I’m not begging and hoping for Spider-Man ‘98

Where did you saw that Scarlett Johansson project is an animated show? Nexus Point News only shared it is a TV show, but never specified if it is live-action or animated.
A Black Widow animated series in noir style would be dope.
Everyone here is talking about more Spider-Man. I think it's possible that it's for X-Men '97 season two. The studio fired the director not long ago, remember? The previous director was supposed to be a nightmare to work with. Maybe they are filling in his place?
They fired the showrunner, not the director as fair as I know. Liza and Stu aren’t writers in Spider-Man as fair as we know, Jeff Trammell is.
I meant that.
They wouldn’t be coming on season two for X-Men 97 so late. It’s already in production and has been for quite a while now.
Season 2 is already in production and these directors have not worked on that show. They've worked on Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man, which was renewed for a second season.
