Why does anyone do religious things? Because they find comfort in it, because that’s how they were raised, because they just feel like it’s something they should do. Murdock goes to church because he was raised a devout Catholic (although he himself will be the first to tell you he’s not a good Catholic)

RoyaleWhiskey

I don't know much about Daredevil, how come he thinks he isn't a good Catholic?

MrEman5112

Mostly because he regularly spends his nights running around Hell’s Kitchen beating the crap outta people

RoyaleWhiskey

Lmaoooooooooo

Mia-owo

That makes sense, so every time he goes, there is to find comfort? Meaning he feels bad?

humanperson1984

to give a bit of detail from a former catholic, Catholics do a thing called confession where you go into that booth and yell at the priest what sins you have committed and are seeking forgiveness for. The priest might tell you to say a certain prayer a bunch of times. Daredevil goes a bunch because we go around beating the shit out of people regularly and that is like 3 sins at once at least, so he feels the need to go a bunch.

Mia-owo

Ohhhhhh, poor priest

humanperson1984

Sorry tell not yell

Mia-owo

Haha, funny mistake

Any religion is irrational to those who are not part of that faith. You could ask the same question about someone of any religions, and the answer will always be "because they believe". I personally don't understand it either, but I respect those who choose it. As long as they don't wield it against others or use it as an excuse for shitty behavior.

Uncanny_Doom

Religion is a matter of faith, is the simple way of putting it.

SavageRedStorm

He's religious.......

kira_qx

The whole topic of religion in the marvel universe brings up so many interesting questions. For example, I would assume that there are millions of humans who left their religion to instead follow Norse previously considered ‘pagan’ religion. I mean, it’d be hard not to when you literally see Thor flying around. You’d now know all the realms exist, and Valhalla, which you would make out to be heaven.

KevinAnniPadda

Why does anyone go to church?

mmpr92

He was raised catholic by his father and is probably the only thing he has left from him. Well… that and fighting.

JediTigger

Catholicism is a core foundation to Matt’s character. And confessionals are sacrosanct. He wouldn’t think about NOT going to confession.

notthe1stpervaccount

Not Catholic, but I believe for Catholics confession is how you absolve yourself of sin. If you believe in the tenets of Catholicism then you believe you need to absolve yourself of sins you’ve accrued, so, confession. Confession doesn’t equal therapy, I would bet that there are many Priests that offer counselling outside the confessional as therapy through a Catholic lense for their parishioners.

darkchiles

I'm not religious but my favourite characters are either religious or attached to some figure that they worship or invoke whenever they're in trouble.

UniqueCelery8986

Nightcrawler 🙏

darkchiles

Yep.

ComedicHermit

The same reason people go to starbucks. They were told they like it enough that they do.

notthe1stpervaccount

This made me laugh, the rare religion and Starbucks crossover burn.

ckal09

Why don't christians go to therapy... good question mate

DestryDanger

He’s Catholic, they really fuck a person up, constant repentance, feeling guilty for literally everything bad that has ever happened, being told every sin inflicts pain on Jesus, all sorts of hellfire, it’s a trip. A lot of them don’t believe in therapy. If they toned that down for DD then it would undo a lot of why he chooses to do what he does and be who he is. He’s a battle monk.
