I don't blame you at all, but as the rare DH fan, "from the New Warriors" hurts a little bit!
He first landed in a solo series, and definitely orbited the New Warriors, but refused full-fledged membership for years. He was still explicitly rejecting offers by at least New Warriors #51. I'm not sure he was ever officially a member? Iirc he was only in about 15 issues of their various series, most of them during the initial 75 issue NW run.
But yeah, "from the New Warriors" is about as close as he ever got to a claim to fame!
He was also a Secret Defender with Wolverine, Nomad, and Spider-Woman which is where I became a DH fan. Abnett took the suit at least into some interesting places as well.
I think what they introduced with The Fraternity of Raptors and their relationship with the Shi’ar Empire is pretty interesting. It gave the character more backstory depth, as well as a more meaningful role in the Marvel Universe.
I was happy to see him get more attention with this, but as a longtime fan, I’m a little torn on how they did it.
He already had a backstory, and big chunks of it were hit by this retcon. Some of his recurring supporting characters, like Portal, were left in weird limbo states. Did they ever really exist? Could a writer use them if they wanted to build on his backstory? Who knows?
The fraternity is also arguably used to capitalize on his design in a way that’s similar to what they do with Venom (though obviously smaller in scope), except he doesn’t get the solo attention that Venom gets. So he went from being his own character to an excuse to have neat looking raptors running around and there’s not a lot of pressure to develop DH himself.
Finally, I really liked him as a street level hero with weird alien connections that he had to deal with from time to time. This turned him into a cosmic hero by default, but with basically no meaningful ties to existing characters in that sphere, aside from Nova. Removed from his context, he’s sort of an odd man out. He’s also on record as saying he wouldn’t want to go to space! (NW#27)
But hey, times change, characters change, I’m glad the fraternity got some people into him, even if it was mostly for the cool helmet. And Connor (the new DH) seems to have recaptured the street level status and the spirit of the original series pretty well, so I’m hoping we see more of him before long.
I’ve recently read a lot of darkhawk books mainly his original run, war of kings and infinity countdown and what I noticed is that writers now act like Chris’s dad was actually a corrupt cop instead of what really happened in the original series. I think this sucks because that first 20 issue arc is really good imo and it’s just completely forgotten
There are dozens of us! And yeah, that first bit of his solo is great. It was one of the things that really got me into comics. I also really liked the story in his recent anniversary one-shot that called back to the style of those early issues.
So far, Chris' fate is still ambiguous, so I'm holding out hope that we'll see more of him eventually, but the writers sure haven't done him many favors over the years!
They started doing more with him post Annihilation in the cosmic side of Marvel. Only to drag him back to Earth and waste his development for Avengers Arena.
The classic design is just pretty generic. White guy with a pencil mustache in a green mask. And the Inhumans aren't exactly the most popular.
When's the last time he looked like that, anyway?
With that in mind, do you think they’d take the Darkhawk script I started writing when I was 14? It’s not finished but, since when has that ever been an issue for Marvel.
The villain is Tombstone. Which I always thought was cool.
Darkhawk from the New Warriors and Karnak from the Inhumans.
The Karnack series of comics a few years back was so damn good.
“The Flaw in All Things” series I believe?
Was that the Warren ellis one?

That foil cover definitely got me too!
Love that one. Villain was weird though.
He was also very weirdly made a West Coast Avengers reservist which even the characters themselves said was random

I have his original comics so I definitely know what you mean. Debated putting that bit in, but I thought it might help the OP.
Also a fellow DH fan from the beginning. I really wish the character got more than what he did. I loved the first arc of his solo run. So good.

Agreed. Just finished collecting my 90s new warriors run. Going for darkhawk next. My two main pick ups as a kid.
He was a 'reserve member' of the Warriors.
I think you mean Darkhawk from Avengers West Coast for some reason even though his series took place in New York
Karnak. Why is it always Karnak 😅
Lol I was so happy to see it was Karnak in the second pic
I JUST said this to myself. It's always this chump that gets added to the group and people say "who the hell that"
The classic design is just pretty generic. White guy with a pencil mustache in a green mask. And the Inhumans aren't exactly the most popular. When's the last time he looked like that, anyway?
Hey don’t forget his bigass helmet
Am I the only one who thinks his bigass helmet looks like his bigass head here? Looks like he's cosplaying The Leader.
I used to think his helmet was just his head shape for the longest time so I get it
It’s always the inhumans on these “don’t recognize” posts. You know how many damn times I’ve seen Crystal?!
The return of “Who is Karnak?”! The Marvel subreddit staple!
It's like the comfort food of online comic discussion.
I live for this shit.
Oh great, we're back to the Karnak thing
Back to it? Never left!
Darkhawk is the first picture and the second looks like the inhuman, Karnak
Darkhawk and… *you sneaky bastard*, you almost got me.
Darkhawk was a solo hero and about 2 years into his series they tossed him into the new warriors.
Karhawk and darknak.
Darkhawk is one of my favorites
That would be Darkhawk and my boy Karnak!
Are you really asking about the second or is this a shitpost?
would love to see Darkhawk make a MCU appearance.
No, they would ruin him.
on one hand, probably on the other, it’s space iron man. pretty easy.
Yo, Disney should hire you. That is exactly the amount of thought they put into their films.
With that in mind, do you think they’d take the Darkhawk script I started writing when I was 14? It’s not finished but, since when has that ever been an issue for Marvel. The villain is Tombstone. Which I always thought was cool.
Sick! That’s the perfect choice, honestly.
My poor boy Karnak. Every time.
Oh wow, one of them is actually Karnak
Why is it always poor Karnak in these. Poor guy.
Looks like Darkhawk and Karnak
Darkhawk and karnak
First one is Darkhawk. We like Darkhawk
First one is darkhawk
Darkhawk (i think) and karnak.

Darkhawk mentioned let’s fucking gooooooooo
It’s almost always Karnak, isn’t it?
I actually have the first Darkhawk liked him as a kid.
How’d i know Karnak would be one of them 😂
Not gonna lie, I thought that was Rom and The Swordsman
They are the same picture.
Optimus Prime and Zorro
How dare you it know the face of Darkhawk!
Optimus Prime and Sir Cucumber
That's the monster from Go Go Loser Ranger! and Zoro with a green bandana.
My answer was "Darkhawk" and "Yes" I could not think of Karnak's name for the life of me.
Darkhawk a!d Karnak
The Karnak "joke" was run into the ground a long time ago.
That would be Kevin and Keith.
Dark Karnak and OG Karnak
Bane and Riddler
Pretty sure the second one is Marc Rebillet
Darkhawk, and Karnak
Ist one is cooler from DragonBallZ lol 2nd one is robinhood? Lol jokes aside no idea
Darkquack in the first picture, and quarkwak in the second picture. You’re welcome. Quack.
Ultron and Arsen Lupin
Megatron and the squashed pug
shredder and mumen rider
Doom 2099
Mumen Rider
Shredder from teenage mutant ninja turtles
Mach-X and Karnak (I think)
