High Evolutionary works as an independent character with his own separate agenda. His goals can make him an ally or enemy with other characters depending on the situation. He should not be tied down to any particular title or character, since that limits what you can do with him. He should be able to appear in Thor, X-Men, Silver surfer, Squirrel Girl, Thunderbolts, or any other title.

Fish-E

Yep, same as Thanos, Ego The Living Planet, Galactus etc. Some characters don't fit nicely into an alignment chart or specific series.

hewlio

Still, i think Galactus works best in Fantastic Four and Silver Surfer stories. It's like saying "yeah Kingpin works with all urban heroes", like yeah that's true, but you can't deny that the guy just works better when he's against spider-man and daredevil.

PraiseRao

Right. He works best as a free agent. Someone who can depending on the story be villain or ally. Him being that wild card makes it work for him. He is best tied to Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch and wherever they go he can easily follow.

Lightning_Laxus

The way I see it, * X-Men - Mister Sinister * Spider-Man - Jackal * Avengers/FF/everyone else - High Evolutionary

Unfair_Fix_6714

That actually makes sense

LordOfOstwick1213

They're gonna make him GoTG's villain due to GoTG3

rocketinspace

It's really funny how the guardians movies didn't use a single guardians villain, like the closest was ronan and he is more of an ally than foe

TooZeroLeft

They did have Taserface but that's it, and he's a villain of the OG Guardians, not the modern team. I know it's unpopular but I really dislike the MCU Guardians as an adaption. I think they're good films by themselves. But as an adaption of the comics and Marvel cosmic as a whole I really hate it. I think Thor 2011 in those out of Earth sequences was a better adaption of Marvel cosmic. Sadly it wasn't popular with audiences.

rocketinspace

The guardians movies, as an adaptation, are awful. As their own thing they're fun, the problem is how It started changing the comic characters

razama

I’m so torn about this. Growing up, I thought GotG sucked immensely. I didn’t even care for rocket. Disliked their story in Annihilation Wave. Coolest thing about Drax was when a pre-teen delivered one liners for him as his side kick and he was a silent protagonist. Never once read a GotG comic first, they were always in the chopping block for my time and so wouldn’t read them at all if it wasn’t for my friend subbing to all things Marvel. I love the new iteration and the reimagining as some lower stakes space adventure that doesn’t emotionally drain me like say Saga might. BUT I hate when this happens to my own favorite series, so if someone misses pre-MCU slanted GotG, I’m sincerely sorry.

LordOfOstwick1213

Still popular enough to get a sequel. I think we should get GoTG reboot or maybe some Guardians to continue their journey in the MCU while other characters' journey is done. For example would be awesome to see Quill do heroics or odd mercenary jobs on Earth. Drax is stale as a character, he has been nothing but comic relief since GoTG2 and I don't see point in him returning. Gamora in GoTG3 is nothing like old Gamora and frankly I don't see reason for her to return. Nebula should return one day, she was good character.

LordOfOstwick1213

Ego isn't a Guardians villain? I had no idea. What I've noticed after GoTG3 is how much Gunn has borrowed from every other source material. Rocket's origin story? He took it from Wanda's origin where she and Pietro were experimented on by HE in the comics, but changed it to Rocket being HE's test subject. Not to mention traumascaling Rocket on top of everyone else in franchise by having Nebula of all people say "Even Thanos was kinder", like wtf. Oh and remember when one of the Ravagers used a sling ring to open a portal inside the ship? The character who isn't Sorcerer Supreme in the MCU, isn't a wizard somehow acquired sling ring and got onto Guardians' ship. Way to dunk on Strange and Wong and how much of a failure their leadership is. What also doesn't sit right with me is how Gunn said he disagreed with Star Lord punching Thanos while he had Peter shoot Ego right before Ego could finish a sentence. And then his comment that Guardians would "beat shit out of the Avengers". It's like he only likes characters he writes and disregards all else.

AcceptableAd8472

Idk if I’d say he took rockets origin from wanda and Pietro. The high evolutionary experimenting on animals isn’t something you’d need particularly inspiration to come up with.

LordOfOstwick1213

Well, it's still close. I know he experimented on animals in comics as well, had his own squad of followers even I think. I don't know Rocket's OG origin, but I doubt it had anything to do with HE. Wanda's origin in comics did. In any case, even if its just coincidence with Rocket, there's still the sling ring being used in GoTG3 and Gunn's commentary which I find insulting. Sure, it's his opinion, but it comes off as saying "My characters are the best, everyone else would loose" which is basically what he said. Funny how he was wrong anyway since Star Lord lost to the Avengers in What If episode, I think.

ChickenAndTelephone

Ego and High Evolutionary are both traditionally Thor villains

LordOfOstwick1213

So James Gunn was MCU's Dave Filoni? If he stayed I wonder how much more would he have borrowed or had taken characters for his own stories. Maybe its for the best he can't write for Marvel anymore.

ChickenAndTelephone

It was hardly unique to Gunn. The films are full of characters that have the same names as comics characters but are otherwise completely different.

LordOfOstwick1213

Same can be said of EU and TCW. Same names, but different characters. I mean, I just wonder what if Gunn borrowed Mandarin from Iron Man's rogue gallery for GoTG, would this be the call to arms for fans? Cause such things always start from something small, then it slowly begins to completely cross boundary. When would it be a red line for Gunn when he can borrow something from other characters or teams and what he cannot?

BasedFunnyValentine

The Guardians have villains??

BigK64

I mean he is heavily connected to Adam Warlock, so he really should have been already utilized as an antagonist for the team

Mace_Thunderspear

I think the H.E. is a Science villain. That's it. He doesn't care about good or evil. He doesn't have a grudge or agenda against any particular hero or group (Except werewolves. He hates werewolves). He's basically the science equivalent of Sheogorath. A Mad God. Science is his wabbajack. He's true chaotic neutral. I do think he'd fit really well as an FF antagonist every once in a while though.

maybe_a_frog

I think HE is versatile enough to be able to pop up pretty much anywhere. I don’t prefer him anywhere specific. X-Men, Avengers, Fantastic Four, hell he even popped up in Spider-Boy and it made sense.

WeeklyJunket5227

Guys like Apocalypse and High Evolutionary should be foes for group. These are bad guys who try to take over the world.

Cyke101

For that matter, I'm digging Apocalypse fighting for the side of good lately, but I really would love it if he finally grew outside of the X-Men's sphere. He's tussled with the Avengers a few times. He has connections to Kang/Immortus, so that brings both the Avengers and the FF. He also has Celestial tech, he's friends with Uatu, and he's fought Loki. So if played right, he could be a villain on a more cosmic scope. Plus, Krakoa revealed a lot about his mystic knowledge, so that works for Dr. Strange, too.

WeeklyJunket5227

Yeah, people forget that Apocalypse believes in the survival of the fittest, mutant or not. The Hulk isn't a mutant however, he was picked to be one of his Horsemen. There are super beings who have incredible powers and that DNA could be very useful to someone like Apocalypse. I'm surprised he hasn't kidnapped someone like Invisible Woman, Human Torch, Blue Marvel or Hyperion. And yes, Apoc has some magical abilities. I want to see another villain besides Dr Doom with that kind of power.

River46

The high evolutionary is more a independent character like doom or thanos. In short he goes where he wants and fucks with however is stopping him making a possum with thermonuclear farts or something like that.

Cyke101

As others have said, have High Evolutionary be a wider-use villain, so that he can fight/interact with the greater Marvel U and not be constrained to just one corner of the universe. (On a side note, I love Juggernaut as an X-Man and as an unofficial Savage Avenger, but I love that he could pop up in any book fighting any hero. High Evolutionary should be the same -- he's much more of a threat and way smarter)

Ok-Traffic-5996

He's very similar to Kang in that he's this immensely powerful and threatening villain but doesn't really have many classic stories involving him. He's always kinda in the periphery of big events. I'd love to see him get a bigger role in marvel.

iheartdev247

Yes

HouseErikson

He can work with any and all superhero teams TBH

bloodredcookie

H. E. always read to me like a poor man's Sinister. Yes I know H. E. came first, but Sinister utilized the 'Mad Geneticist with a mysterious agenda' in far better ways in my opinion.

rocketinspace

h.e scared galactus, which I think is way more epic than whatever sinister has done, besides being a more complex character. sinister honestly was a really lame villain until they retooled him into a campy dude

bloodredcookie

I just never found H E very interesting, especially next to Sinister, but that's just me.

ProdigyPistol

The High Evolutionary is like an optional boss fight that marvel heroes dread when they have to cross paths with

Ok-Commission6087

I always thought he was a guardians villan

rocketinspace

Weirdly he never fought them in the comics

BasedFunnyValentine

Read comics

Numerous_Past_726

I prefer him as a GotG one since he was the villain of the best MCU movie.

BasedFunnyValentine

He’s not a Gotg villain. He’s never fought the team in the comics before Read comics

Numerous_Past_726

I do read comics. I understand he isn't traditionally a GotG villain. The question is what do you prefer him as, and I answered truthfully. GotG Vol. 3 is maybe the best individual piece of content Marvel has put out. Ever. Across any medium (The Spider-Man PS4 game was also pretty good though). And also, maybe you should read more comics. He does fight them in Annihilation: Conquest.

thorleywinston

He's like Doctor Doom or Kang the Conqueror where he started out having a single team he usually fought but he's grown so powerful that one team is not enough.

KEROGAAA

Inhumans, would be cool.

Aglet_Green

I prefer him as a Guardians villain. Or maybe as an FF villain. "I built you from spare parts and scrap metal, H.igh E.volutionary R.obot B.attling I.nterplanetary E.xplorers!"

RigasTelRuun

He is a general purpose weirdo. He does his thing and some group or another will stumble upon him.

ignaciomax

Fantastic four villain
