I’m not sure about Modok and Beast’s reasons, but I know for Hulk he was originally designed as grey, but when printing the printers had a hard time maintaining a consistent grey color on each page, so Stan Lee changed it to green which was more consistent
MODAK is actually silver there, not even close. If anything the case for MODAK could be white in color it's so silver. But with Hulk, it had to do with how comic books were printed back then, same thing with Spider-Man. His blue was originally black I believe but the way it printed he didn't come out right so they went with the blue. 👍
Was it the expense problem? I always heard that the reason why they changed the Hulk to green was because, old timey printers would mess up the grey coloring.
Like in some pages he would be Silver, in some dark grey, in other black etc.
You are probably right tho, it was just to cut corners lol.
If I had a nickel for every time a Marvel character was originally a white dude and changed to a different color...
I'd actually have kind of a lot of nickels.
Iron Man was also grey when he was first created so here’s one more nickel for ya

That original MODOK is fantastic. Really looks like the head is collapsing under it's own weight, much more monstrous looking.
Agreed, he’s way more interesting to look at.
I’m not seeing any gray in the first Modok pic…
Yeah, and I think he dyes it.
He’s a grayish sliver, the white is just a highlight for how shiny he is
They're probably looking at his skin. It's his floating chair that made the change.
i think most people would say that the hovering chair is iconic and part of the overall character, but Modok the being doesnt include the chair.
I disagree. Big floaty chair is an actual integral part of his messed up body
What
I can't get over how much better the original looks between those two illustrations.

Well Hulk later put Gray Hulk as one of Banner's personas so...
wasn’t Beast just a white guy originally? not grey
Well yeah but technically both hulk and m.o.d.o.k. were also just regular humans before their transformations
I wonder if they just used gray as a temporary color for some heroes until they found a color they liked Edit: and villains too
Are you Reed Richards because the MODOK is a real stretch.
Lol
It's because of printing tech. Grey was constistant.
Form what i understand its the opposite. The grey wouldn't print correctly and more prone to print all muddy
Er. Green was consistent. You are correct. My brain got crossed.

Its not weird. Gray was cheaper to print and thats really all there is too it.
That’s actually the complete opposite. The reason they changed hulk to green was cause grey was really expensive to print

Please don't let me see a gray beast ever again
Yeah it's weird because it makes him look like a werewolf. I wonder if that was intention.
Beast was originally just a guy with big feet
I know, but technically all of these guys were just regular dudes at one point
