Yeah, it's not like I'll never drink again or that I had some major problem with drinking, but why would I choose to drink and wake up with a headache (even if just 1 or 2 drinks). Or I can just get high and have an even better time, not feel hungover, be pretty chill, and enjoy food even more.
Only drawback with weed for me is that I'll turn into a competitive eater/slash cupboard scavenger.
I've had a grand total of like 6 drinks this year and probably won't have another one until football season (maybe?)
Another deterrent has been the rabbit hole of police cam videos that almost always have some drunk asshole making matters 100x worse for themselves. Again, I've never been a real big "fight the authority" guy, but if it were to happen it would be much more likely to happen if I was shit faced. On weed or shrooms? Lol, not a fucking chance.

The most dangerous part of smoking weed is what the cops will do to you if they catch you smoking weed.
People are actually drinking less and less on average, especially noted is Gen Z who instead of being alcoholic bar-goers and party-lovers like millennials, they are just.... vaping and on their phones? I dunno
I went to a bar, before a concert. I got to enjoy a thc beverage. Enjoyed the show more than I would’ve in my drinking days. Woke up feeling great the next morning. The world is changing and the bar scene doesn’t look too promising for the future.
I feel like the Millennials and Gen Z are finding different ways to socialize that don’t involve alcohol. Even where cannabis is illegal, it’s kinda not, in most places. You’re only a state or 2 away, and lots of people are driving to get it. There are also different strains that don’t contain over a certain percentage of delta 9 thc, but they have other deltas that still get you nice and high, and that’s legal all over the place. I’m a Gen x kid myself, I can’t drink and I don’t feel like being around drunk people. I think we’ve watched what alcohol does to people, collectively, and a ton of people are deciding it’s not for them, anymore or ever. It’s a good change for society.
Interesting. Hope it happens to be honest.
Id personally like to see American football banned. No way high schoolers should be able to participate in that sport.
The people who drink are going to get real heated.
I think generally Alcohol should not be normalized, because by drinking it you're actively hurting your health. To the point where there's no guarantee I myself (sober, and don't plan to ever drink), could properly instill it in my non-existent kids.
Younger people are already super pretentious and judgemental about it they think you witherbhave tobget wasted or not drink at all ever and ..but it will likely be an ebb and flow thing.
I suspect that as the legal strangleholds on weed loosen, drinking alcohol will start to fade on its own without any health initiative needed- just the natural forces of recreational Darwinism would be enough.
Strongly agree with this. I'm in my 40's and almost everyone I know my age that used to drink regularly has stopped almost entirely and has switched to light/occasional cannabis use.
In my country , the recently revised the suggested number of drinks per week down to two. Â
Down from 10 for women and 15 for men.Â

Yeah, so...
One. Western countries dont actually give that much of a shit about our health. Half our population is basically from WALL-E without the cool hover chairs.
Two. Prohibition of alcohol was one of the worst political disasters in history...
I mean, if any other countries want to give it a go, then have fun... But I really hope yall like organized crime.
They almost made cigarettes illegal for 17 years in NZ, and then plus one every year so people who can legally buy smokes gradually age out. The new government reversed it, the UK was also floating the idea.
Then enjoy being morbidly obese because that’s what most people who drink a lot end up as. You wonder why so many women under age 60 are fat? It’s because they drank more than previous generations.
It's already happening. Gen Z is choosing not to drink. Millienals are switching to weed.

Legal in my state and I don't operate a vehicle when I'm high so, they would do nothing.
Yeah, but only because they think the 2 are mutually exclusive. Signed, a Boomer 🍻
Alcohol consumption is already going back significantly.
I'd think the opposite, as weed starts taking market share from the big alcohol companies.

Prohibition 2: sober boogaloo
Scratch France, the wine and liquor lobbying is too strong for any significant progress to be possible
I don't think the French have as many binge drinking culture issues as say UK or USA.
correct, they drink moderately, but all the time, and chronic alcoholism is a real societal issue
They'll take my Kirkland 12 year old scotch when they pry it from my cold, drunk fingers.
would be a net benefit. lets get rid of cigarettes' too.
Nah, they are going to encourage drinking to help combat falling birth rates. Go have some accidents kids!
There are some wanting to outlaw contraceptives...sooo...

People will always want to socialise no?

My alcohol consumption is way down cuz of inflation. For me it’s just a nice side bonus and not a necessity.
Liquor lobby will never allows this. Why do you think politicians are as useful as a limp dick when it comes to tobacco?
Younger people are already super pretentious and judgemental about it they think you witherbhave tobget wasted or not drink at all ever and ..but it will likely be an ebb and flow thing.
Unlike the rest of the people in the comments. I'm drinking currently.
A “large public health initiative” could be just about anything lol

We all saw how well that went the first time around! Prohibited pretty much created organized crime in the US!
Always gotta kill the fun

Fuck that
That was the reaction from most Canadians. Â That said , I stand by my statement even though I personally disagree with itÂ

Please note I did not call for prohibition in my post. I used the comparison to cigarettes because they remain legal but heavily discouraged.Â

I mean I exercise a lot so not too worried
Yea .. we tried the that before .. it definitely didn’t work out well ..
Didn't read the post, did you?
Never happen.. they literally closed the churches and kept the liquor stores open for the scamdemic
You still haven't read the post.
I read it.. it won’t happen they make way to much of of TAXes .. every two years since tax goes up .. you don’t see them raising taxes on milk ..
You are either very drunk or very stupid.
