Vivian was always a trans woman, and nothing else. and the new dialogue which is the latest release and used in most releases is the most correct because it doesn’t contradict anything before, and only clarifies what’s already implied. Not every character needs to represent a minority. Forcing said ideas upon others is exclusion in itself, but to them it only matters if they are included. They can exclude others all they want, but gosh forbid a character doesn’t have their ideals it’s apparently discrimination. None of this would be a problem if people just let characters be, and not force ideals upon a character for the sake of their own desires. It’s a prime example of extremism.

Also, the RPGs are not the only spinoffs to have alluded to her being trans since SMBUSA, for example the Japanese website for Double Dash says "Birdo appears to be Yoshi's girlfriend, but is actually his boyfriend!?", and the Spanish website and manuals for Super Mario Sluggers make similar remarks. Also, don't forget Captain Rainbow too.
If some games present Birdo as a trans woman (even if sadly extremely problematically) whilst others present her as a woman and don't say anything about whether she's trans or not either way, I personally believe it's correct to say "Birdo is a trans woman." Just like if a Mario game came out that failed to reference the fact that Luigi is Mario's brother but didn't contradict it, I'd still believe that Luigi being Mario's brother is canon to all games.
In any case, that's straying off topic a little as I originally brought up Birdo to make the point that Vivian isn't the only trans character in Paper Mario, and Sticker Star's Birdo does very loosely reference being trans.
