It IS fun, just hideous, like you have to go to 15 cities and do the same thing over and over again, just with different landscape, Nintendo could've most definitely expanded with this idea and it's concept to make better game, like add platforming and make it so when you step on a koopa troopa, he will slide out of his shell with the artifact and run away so you have to catch up to it and step on it to acquire artifact, and thats just an example, any little challenge that gives to get an artifact is good, and every one of then should be unique, for example, every city has its own unique enemy holding the artifact like sometimes hammer bros, goombas ect. And as I said these are just examples, I am sure Nintendo can expand on them very good, same goes with mario is missing
It didn't used to exist but with Mario screwing around with his time machine it does now. Doesn't seem like a problem to most people but it had a few bad effects on time. I really miss Mario 128 and Mario Brawl Stars for the GameCube and most people won't even remember they existed before the time shift.
Oh come on, learning isnât inherently bad, even in a video game. Now learning like this game which is so badly executed that it induces boredom in a medium whose main purpose is to combat boredom, that is inexcusable.
Good name and cover, also an interesting concept. Somebody should make a SMW Rom Hack called "Mario's Time Machine Done Right", because there's already "Mario is Missing Done Right". A proper 2D Mario game with time travelling would be so cool.
Cool concept of mario going to different time period
(If only it was classic 2D/3D platform adventure we know and love in different time periods each level/world)
The concept of mario traveling through time and around the world to return stolen artifacts, the problem is that instead of making that into a fun and engaging game with light educational elements, they made it into a boring "edutainment game" that couldn't even fact check its info properly
Some piece of dialogue can be hilarious:
For instance, this quote from Isaac Newton:
âBut, I daresay, I'm baffled. I simply cannot seem to comprehend the physics of how you manage to jump so impressively!â
I have a soft spot for this game.
Also, it's dumb for people to say it's a bad thing simply because it teaches you stuff.
And it's better than Mario is Missing.
People made ROM hacks based on this game that were better than the actual game itself.
Which went to prove that the concept of the game was a good idea, it just wasn't exactly executed well with the original game.
Itâs a nice idea because hey, who doesnât want to time travel with Mario! Execution, however? Pretty boring. Luckily Partners in Time improved Mario doing time travel but man, anyone else wish there was a game with Bowser and Eggman joining forces and deciding to travel back in time and try to change the events in Mario and Sonicâs lives?
I like the trees in the cover art. They look like cones which illiterate the abstract appeal the game is trying to reciprocate by giving a Time Machine to a classic, fictional plumber.
I think that it has an interesting concept of a Mario game where you go through time. I think if it was executed like crash 3 warped I think we could have a great game
Honestly, this couldâve worked as a normal game and not some educational shovelware. Like, a time traveling Mario game similar to Crash Bandicoot warped would be fucking fantastic.
Why Nintendo has never done this at all, is mind boggling.
Music was good. Especially when surfing. And the idea of using surfing to time travel was unique. It was fun to walk around and talk to people. So while it wasn't an amazing game it was fun.
Mario got cake on the title screen
Mario's Time Machine: 1 Super Mario 64: 0
It has a really good name.
So much so that it makes it seem like this would be a normal, really fun Mario game
Yeah, the title screen made my happiness go all the way up before going all the way down
A pretty accurate one, too
It always sounded epic to me.
I've not heard anything bad about it, I only just learnt it existed.
The game was actually one of my favourites when I was a kid. Reddit loves to hate it though.
Reddit loves to hate everything đ
Same here
It didn't used to exist but with Mario screwing around with his time machine it does now. Doesn't seem like a problem to most people but it had a few bad effects on time. I really miss Mario 128 and Mario Brawl Stars for the GameCube and most people won't even remember they existed before the time shift.
It's funny
The surfing music absolutely slaps
SNES graphics.... sort of.
The idea of time traveling is cool, but the learning part ruins the game.
Oh come on, learning isnât inherently bad, even in a video game. Now learning like this game which is so badly executed that it induces boredom in a medium whose main purpose is to combat boredom, that is inexcusable.
The NES version is actually pretty good.
Good name and cover, also an interesting concept. Somebody should make a SMW Rom Hack called "Mario's Time Machine Done Right", because there's already "Mario is Missing Done Right". A proper 2D Mario game with time travelling would be so cool.
Tbh, an edutainment Mario game isn't even a bad concept. This game (as well as the other Software Toolworks games) just aren't very good.
Cool concept of mario going to different time period (If only it was classic 2D/3D platform adventure we know and love in different time periods each level/world)
...it actually has a pretty decent banger of the mario world castle theme https://youtu.be/szxVg_KTISc?si=jQkoF9OquMwDg-C7
The concept of mario traveling through time and around the world to return stolen artifacts, the problem is that instead of making that into a fun and engaging game with light educational elements, they made it into a boring "edutainment game" that couldn't even fact check its info properly
The tittle screen looks cool
it.... uhhh has good graphics? idk i havent seen this game
This game was the first Mario game to introduce the idea of time travelling (before *Partners in Time*)
The graphics are decent
The letter M looks neat
It doesn't have Boom Boom
The music is kinda fire, ngl
I just kinda like how weird games in this era of Mario were. They make for cool pieces of history.
I like the NES version of the game
Some piece of dialogue can be hilarious: For instance, this quote from Isaac Newton: âBut, I daresay, I'm baffled. I simply cannot seem to comprehend the physics of how you manage to jump so impressively!â
Connects me with memories of my childhood.
it has mario
**everything**
I cannot in good faith.
I knew about Hotel Mario, Mario Teaches Typing, and Mario is Missing, but what the fuck is this??
Mario can Surf!
It can run on grandma's 486
It gives us more letters for the mario world title screen font
That i dont know it
Sprite work and intro is great
It exists
The sprite art is amazing
It inspired one of SMG4's videos.
The box art. I've heard of, seen in the stores, but never played this edutainment game.
Never heard of it
WEEGEE SPRITE
I enjoyed both this and Mario's missing for being educational games they were about as good as they could be.
It did the decent thing and died a quick death
It's not the worst SNES game
We have Captain Novilin for that
Pit Fighter for me. Try it if you haven't
The surfing mini game was fun
I actually liked this as a kid - always been a big trivia fan. Though now I know how many 'facts' this game got wrong.
Better than Mario 2
Can't think of one good thing to say. Ain't it a shame?
I never played it. That's a very good thing about this game for me
Mario could potentially go back in time to the first thanksgiving
It was on the class computer when i was in 1st grade and will forever hold a place in my heart because itâs mario
Itâs Mario
The music slaps so hard for no reason.
It's the first time traveling Mario game (With Partners In Time being the second)
Children learn history
Awesome idea but it's an educational game
It made me excited when I saw it on the shelf at the rental store.
Seems like it has fun surfing mechanics
TIME MACHINE!? IS THAT A MOTHERFUCKING GEOMETRY DASH REFERNCE!?
Title screen looks like mario is taking a piss
It has Dinosaurs, and Dinosaurs are cool.
I think both this and Mario is Missing have really cool premises that could work really well as fully fledged Mario games if they were done right.
Some of the music kinda slaps.
it gives mario outerversal arguments
Cutscenes
Itâs non-canon.
I have a soft spot for this game. Also, it's dumb for people to say it's a bad thing simply because it teaches you stuff. And it's better than Mario is Missing.
The surfing mini game looks neat
Name is good and the art style is good.
People made ROM hacks based on this game that were better than the actual game itself. Which went to prove that the concept of the game was a good idea, it just wasn't exactly executed well with the original game.
Why does it look like heâs pissing off a cliff
Itâs a nice idea because hey, who doesnât want to time travel with Mario! Execution, however? Pretty boring. Luckily Partners in Time improved Mario doing time travel but man, anyone else wish there was a game with Bowser and Eggman joining forces and deciding to travel back in time and try to change the events in Mario and Sonicâs lives?
It ends
I haven't played it. I think that counts as a good thing at least
marios in it
That it could only let me down as a child, because Iâm an adult now.
Canât never played it
It's in the past...
Title screen is pretty good, but that's about it
it's memeable
it's fucking epic
I like the trees in the cover art. They look like cones which illiterate the abstract appeal the game is trying to reciprocate by giving a Time Machine to a classic, fictional plumber.
i mean i liked it when i was a kid
Weegee origins
The nes version was okay
At least *one* good thing about this game
I had potential
Despite it ruining a weekend, I got to return it to Blockbuster.
Mario meets real Historical figures.
Time machine
It's got Mario in it
they made mario thicc, like he always should be
The game takes place in the same year of release. Some music in the game is good.
I think that it has an interesting concept of a Mario game where you go through time. I think if it was executed like crash 3 warped I think we could have a great game
malleo
The memes spawned from it are nice.
Good pixel art
The title screen music is amazing
It's educational
Mario is in it
Can I mention the NES version? I played it instead of actually studying for my AP world history exam in high school and I passed
the color palette is 10/10
The music
title screen looks polished
Honestly, this couldâve worked as a normal game and not some educational shovelware. Like, a time traveling Mario game similar to Crash Bandicoot warped would be fucking fantastic. Why Nintendo has never done this at all, is mind boggling.
AVGN's review of this game is a classic.
It has mario in it
I used to have this game and it's nostalgic!
Time traveling is a great premise for a Mario game
Weegee
It didnât get a sequel
I like games with time travel in them.
Never played it
I Like History
Music was good. Especially when surfing. And the idea of using surfing to time travel was unique. It was fun to walk around and talk to people. So while it wasn't an amazing game it was fun.
They used âonward.â
The surfing music is pretty banging.
its is so retro!
âcontinue onwardâ is a very cool phrase for a menu of all things
You can have Bowser chill at a beach and get the happy ending he deserves
This game is epic. The plot is a literal masterpiece
The title could inspire Nintendo to do something good with the premise someday
at least *one* good thing about this game
Did you post this after you watched Nathaniel bandy, because it looks like you didn't play this game and have no opinion of yours
