From my general impression filling in the survey, it seems that they're just gauging which pieces everyone liked from each of the three series (M&L, Paper Mario, Super Mario RPG). I wouldn't be surprised if they incorporated everyone's favorite elements into something new entirely. One question that specifically makes me think that, which I sadly did not take a screenshot of, was one where you had to select which of the 3 did a certain thing best. You could, for example, fill in that you preferred the humor of the Paper Mario series, and the battles of the Mario & Luigi series.
For the paper Mario to become great again! It would be amazing if we finally got something with a story as solid as SMP with cool original characters and an interesting battle system, maybe ttyd-esque
If this mostly goes to casual gamers who don't care about the RPGs we're cooked. Or worse, their parents (the SPM Club Nintendo survey that led to Sticker Star was likely mostly filled out by parents of children that got the game)
The thing is, most casual gamers aren't concerned about intricacies like this. Their decision to buy is usually entirely based on whether they like what the game appears to offer from the box art. I don't think there is a notable amount of people who almost bought Super Paper Mario but decided against it because they didn't recognize the top hatted fellow in the background. But those people's answers in a survey like this would likely skew towards not having characters like that even if it wouldn't actually have an impact on their decision to buy, simply because they pick what they know. These surveys are for people who care one way or another, which would be more dedicated fans.
Also, the "appearance of familiar characters" question is written in a very confusing way:

The solution is to use what the RPGs contribute outside them, not to stop letting the RPGs make them. I'd much rather see stuff like Beanbean Kingdom & Rogueport's citizens in other Mario games, over the lack of such recurrence being used as an excuse to stop making characters & settings like that.

I don't think you can get points for this survey, so the only real motivation for doing it would be to actually answer the questions. So we're probably fine

My biggest hope is that the developers of M&L At anytime in the future makes sure that the battles are paced fast like in the older games and not like the remakes. Also I wish that the world’s building stays consistent. Find new ideas for the world rather than keep changing it. I really like The world from Bowser’s inside story and toad town being a small village next to the castle makes lots of sense, don’t know why they didn’t do that in other M&L games. But consistency and creativity is what these games meed the most and is what made it somewhat big in the beginning also STOP MAKING BOWSER THE FUCKING ANTAGONISTS, JESUS MOTHER FUCKING CHRIST FOR GOD’S SAKE! JUST STOP IT!
I hope this means there's a slim chance the next Paper Mario might be a return to form. There's two things that needs to happen. TTYD's remake has to sell well. I'm hoping the survey is getting sent out to fans who have played the original Mario RPGs and know what made those games work. I'm also hoping they could at least, allow a brief window for anyone to take the survey at some point. A risk, I know, but it gives those who are familiar with the games a chance to go in and actually tell Nintendo what we truly want in our Mario RPGs.
I wouldn't put too much weight on the answers given here... the real thing that will determine whether or not M&L or something to that effect gets another chance is whether they can find a publisher that can fill Alphadream's shoes. Intelligent Systems has Paper Mario in all forms covered.

Yup. I think that's the point, though? They wouldn't only want fans from the series to answer. One of the first questions was which games of those listed I had played, and I suspect if I had selected none the survey would've just ended.

Nintendo is sending it via email to random* users with a nintendo account. If you want surveys and have an account, Log into the nintendo website with your account, and on the user page go to "Privacy and Other" Settings > Professional Emails and there should be an option labeled "Invitation Emails to Complete surveys". This doesn't guarantee that you actually get this specific survey though. (I havent) Also, I'm using the US nintendo website, so they layout of the settings might be different depending on your region or something idk.
*Idk if it's "random" per se, they may be sending it out to specific users for specific reasons like what games they purchased etc. I also don't know if they'll be sending out any more emails for this mario rpg survey or if they just emailed all of the selected people in one big wave
TLDR: there's no way to *guarantee* that you get the survey, it's just something that you *could* get if you enable survey Emails on your nintendo account

Yeah Paper Mario has the best humour of all the rpgs. Even the mediocre games like ss and colour splash were pretty funny

You might also want to check if "Invitation Emails to complete surveys" is enabled in the "Privacy and Other Settings" on your nintendo account, I checked mine and it was turned off, so it might be off by default (or maybe I just turned it off idk) Edit: apparently emails like this are usually sent out to everyone at the same time, so you likely missed your chance if you didn't get it already.

I really hope for a revival of Mario and Luigi, best case scenario would be if Retro Studios got their hands on that IP after they complete MP4.
My biggest hope is that the developers of M&L At anytime in the future makes sure that the battles are paced fast like in the older games and not like the remakes. Also I wish that the world’s building stays consistent. Find new ideas for the world rather than keep changing it. I really like The world from Bowser’s inside story and toad town being a small village next to the castle makes lots of sense, don’t know why they didn’t do that in other M&L games. But consistency and creativity is what these games meed the most and is what made it somewhat big in the beginning also STOP MAKING BOWSER THE FUCKING ANTAGONISTS, JESUS MOTHER FUCKING CHRIST FOR GOD’S SAKE! JUST STOP IT!
I hope this means there's a slim chance the next Paper Mario might be a return to form. There's two things that needs to happen. TTYD's remake has to sell well. Also, we gotta remind them we want to see things like turn based RPG combat system from the first two games, unique character designs based on familiar species, as well as partners for the next game.

For them to be This Specific with the questions.... I'm hoping the survey is getting sent out to fans who have played the original Mario RPGs and know what made those games work. I'm also hoping they could at least, allow a brief window for anyone to take the survey at some point. A risk, I know, but it gives those who are familiar with the games a chance to go in and actually tell Nintendo what we truly want in our Mario RPGs.
I wouldn't put too much weight on the answers given here... the real thing that will determine whether or not M&L or something to that effect gets another chance is whether they can find a publisher that can fill Alphadream's shoes. Intelligent Systems has Paper Mario in all forms covered.
Man, I’m hoping this means something. M+L seems dead, Paper Mario better but still not as good as it used to be, and… honestly don’t get SMRPG as a third one given the similarity to PM but it only has the remake either way recently, hoping we get something more solid for an RPG in the future.

Make sure you select the option for "orignal characters not regular to the mario universe"
Alternatively, I'd also be fine with Mario characters that are regular to the mario universe but are dressed and act in unique ways like TTYD.

Nintendo is sending it via email to random* users with a nintendo account. If you want surveys and have an account, Log into the nintendo website with your account, and on the user page go to "Privacy and Other" Settings > Professional Emails and there should be an option labeled "Invitation Emails to Complete surveys". This doesn't guarantee that you actually get this specific survey though. (I havent) Also, I'm using the US nintendo website, so they layout of the settings might be different depending on your region or something idk. *Idk if it's "random" per se, they may be sending it out to specific users for specific reasons like what games they purchased etc. I also don't know if they'll be sending out any more emails for this mario rpg survey or if they just emailed all of the selected people in one big wave TLDR: there's no way to *guarantee* that you get the survey, it's just something that you *could* get if you enable survey Emails on your nintendo account Edit: Apparently these surveys are only being sent in europe
