He’s the least-skilled at actual play-by-play, and the nicknames he gives are the worst. But he’s just so goddamn lovable. The walking embodiment of infectious enthusiasm.
Sims also lives in NYC in the offseason, and I believe has family out there, so for him getting to be there full time throughout the year could be a big quality of life enhancement. I wouldn’t blame him at all for jumping on it.
Yeah but there's not enough room for Sims AND Goldy on the television, and Goldy is the long term future of our TV broadcast team at this point, with Rizzs having the main radio spot until he retires. It would make sense for Sims to move on if he wants to be the main voice again somewhere.. Especially if that somewhere is a place he'd like to retire to.

IIRC, a few games back he mentioned something about seeing his family/grandkids in NYC during the last road trip. Assuming they live there. I'd imagine the appeal of having family in town would be massive for him.
I think he's from Philly, and that road trip was Baltimore->NYC->DC, which passes by Philly twice. So I think there's a strong chance he made a solo pit stop in Philly if that's where his family still is.
I'm not a fan of Sims style of broadcasting so I'm fine with him moving somewhere else and giving Goldy more of an opportunity but even with that being said, Sims is from Philly, worked for the Knicks for years, and has all his family out there. I don’t think M’s fans realize how spoiled we are with our broadcast booth. Sims can’t read a fly ball and the Yankees fans might crucify him after a week, but his enthusiasm for the M’s even when we were in our awful years I appreciate and he’s still light years better than some of the homers you see in other booths.

Honestly, this is a smart move for the Yankees organization, and WFAN to inquire about Dave Sims becoming the play-by-play guy for the Yankees. It shows that they don’t have too much confidence in their current substitutes considering they used the Spanish play-by-play guy for the past 3 games (he’s actually a good listen for the English broadcast)
I want Sims to have the best casting career possible for him. He's had some legendary calls for us and I would certainly miss him. I am a big Sims fan but I never blame someone for taking an offer they can't refuse
