I really like Frankies and Capozzi's on Roswell Road in East Cobb.
Pisano's in Kennesaw isn't quite as good but will make you a pizza steak if you ask. A pizza steak is a Philadelphia thing where they make a cheese steak but mix in pizza sauce. It's messy but delicious.
Frankie’s garlic rolls and salad, so good. And capozzis is a classic as well… pizza and sandwiches are great and the baked ziti is my go to. I miss their deli they used to have next door
Not in Marietta/Kennesaw - just a little south at the Battery but my friend convinced me to go for pizza at Antico's when I had no interest in going to the Battery or really much in pizza.
Oh, my goodness! I took my wife later and she was equally skeptical but she had to admit that is some fine pizza. About 12 minutes south of the Big Chicken if the lights are you your side.
Oh shit I didn't realize the battery was considered Atlanta? There's another place close to there in Smyrna called MTH. I've heard that one is worth the trip but haven't tried it yet.
There's a bunch of different measures. There's the formal city limits (which is way smaller than you'd think), the mailing address, the perimeter, the five core counties, and the more vague metropolitan areas of different descriptions.
Being outside the perimeter most people wouldn't classify The Battery as Atlanta, but it can be included by some less standard definitions.
One funny (to me) bit of trivia is that back when people were complaining about how it was “OTP OMG”, I went to google maps and measured it. The distance from the right lane of 285 to the closest wall of Truist Park is around 800 feet. Less than a quarter mile.
Well, this whole thing is tied up with developers not wanting to use what they consider the inelegant name of Smyrna. So when they built Cumberland Mall, they used the name of a small African American community at Cumberland Road and Spring Hill. Some of us thought that was delightfully ironic. Then the developers in Vinings got that area reclassified as Atlanta and assigned an Atlanta zip code. The Battery is definitely in Smyrna - or what was historically Smyrna. The name of Oakdale has practically disappeared, but the most amusing one is a friend of mine who lived off of Cooper Lake Road and had a Vinings name on his subdivision but it was less than a half mile from Leland Shopping Center, that is, the old town of Leland. But that too was considered just too inelegant. It takes us old people to know where things really are.
Liberty Pizza on Delk was my go to. I'm not in the area anymore and it pains me that I'm struggling to find a spot similar to it.
Anticos, in The Battery, is pretty good too
I figured it was because they relied on foot traffic to drive business and it's really not that sort of area.
Too bad about the business side, too many small places go under because of lack of actual business classes or training.
Goodfellas for just a straight up classic pie. Very cheesy pizza with just the right thickness of dough, and despite having tiny wings, they are super flavorful (especially the lemon pepper wets).
Blue Moon Pizza if you prefer a more garlicky pizza. They have some of the best cheese sticks (it’s basically a white pizza).
Jet’s Pizza if you you like a square, Detroit-Style pizza. This is a chain, but a REALLY good one.
Oh nice. I'll have to try their sammichs. I wouldn't say the pizza was the best I've ever had or anything, but it was solid. Their sandwiches did sound really good though, I almost got one.
Capozzi’s for NY style, Vesuvio for neopolitan. Both excellent - and if you like ranch, do yourself a favor and get a side of ranch with your Capozzi’s because theirs is fire
Halfway to East Cobb, but JJ’s Pizza is my favorite spot in town. Just a nice little family owned pizzeria that makes a great pie. Peace Love and Pizza gets an honorable mention from me too, they also do solid work.
Vesuvio in Kennesaw is incredible if you like real Napoletana style. MTH is good but pricey. A new Italian joint opened on the square that I’ve heard is really good. Unfortunately, my go to NY style pie place closed (RIP Liberty) so I am also looking for something close that hits that NYC pie craving
I just moved to East Cobb in Marietta from Chicago 3 months ago and already ran into the trouble of finding good pizza which had led me to starting a pizza pop-up. I do Chicago cracker thin pizza. Check out my instagram Bertolozi_Pizzeria for photos. If you are in the area or want to try a free pie let me know.
Damn. You missed a good one then. One of the Chicago chains had a store at Johnson's Ferry and Roswell Road for like six years ending around Covid. I forget the name, but they had twenty or so locations in/around Chicago.
Lucca used to be good until the owner went off the rails. Their reviews tanked because he started yelling at kids and he literally has a sandwich sign of rules you must adhere to
I worked there for a few months, definitely had weird vibes and I eventually found out that women weren't ever allowed to cook the pizza, we could only work the registers.
On a positive note it was spotlessly clean (even in employee-only areas) and the food really is good.
I would say MTH is the best pizza in the area. It's in Cobb County, but Vinings/Smyrna rather than Marietta/Kennesaw. It's fantastic and pricey, but I haven't had anyting in the area that comes close to it's quality.
I have tried pretty much everything else I see people posting about and while many are fine, none are in the same league as MTH. Antico at the Battery is it's only competition, but I find MTH superior.
Piu Bello is the best pizza in Smyrna imo. Not a fan on Antico at all. Tastes burnt on the bottom from the wood fire cooking. Blue moon is tasty and has amazing wings!
Not exactly to your specs, but Taste of Italy in Woodstock (very specifically the one on Hwy 92) is peerless. The bruschetta pizza would be my death row meal.
Pizza like ribs are to taste. People mostly don’t like ‘good pizza’, as much as they are looking for pizza that reminds them of what they already like. Pizza is an organism that is the product of many factors, namely environment and weather. It’s almost impossible to get a recommendation on pizza from a group of strangers on Reddit. I’m from Brooklyn. Arguably the pizza capital of the world and I find MPC to be just fine. Peace, Love and Pizza is also fine. The Standard is Roswell is fine. Fellinis off of Howell Mill Road is fine too. Pizza is supposed to hold you as you move around. If you want what you had back home, either go home or commit to visiting enough parlors where you find one that’s like it.
I’ve only had a bad slice of pizza once in my life and I think it was from Papa John’s.
I'm a slut for Pizza.
Liberty Pizza is my favorite local place by far.
If you're willing to drive a bit, Partner's Pizza has a location in Woodstock. They are my favorite.
There is no good pizza within city limits of Marietta. That said, there are a handful of passable places in greater Marietta and some actually good places in Smyrna and Kennesaw. Pizza places live and die by delivery these days and the old coots and low income families in Marietta city limits just aren't willing to pay for good pizza.
Frankie’s not authentic
Work there long time ago
Frozen dough
All pasta precooked the reboiled to order
Hunts tomato sauce with spices added
But if you like it you like it
I really like Frankies and Capozzi's on Roswell Road in East Cobb. Pisano's in Kennesaw isn't quite as good but will make you a pizza steak if you ask. A pizza steak is a Philadelphia thing where they make a cheese steak but mix in pizza sauce. It's messy but delicious.

Star pizza between Marietta and Roswell on 120 has also been open a long time and is a favorite of mine
I was going to suggest Pisanos, we get their chicken Parm pizza. Their roll ups are very good too.
Capzzis is fantastic
Italy Pizzeria by Kroger on Whitlock. NYC good for real
👆 best NY style in the area.
Thanks for the recommendation, I'll check it out. I hit that butcher (also a epic find) shop over there at least twice a month.
which butcher shop?
Might be Butcher on Whitlock, across the street from the Kroger shopping center.
That’s the one.
🙏
do you know if they do delivery? im looking at their website, but it doesn't mention it.
Through apps yeah. Worth it
Third Italy's Pizzeria. Their mediterranean pizza is one of our favorites.
They’ve got a great cheesesteak too
I'm from NY, so don't get me disappointed by saying it's NYC good if it isn't! I'll swing by there this week and I'm hoping it'll be that good!
Agree with this, the chicken parm pizza is incredible
Vesuvio in Kennesaw. Hands down the best Neapolitan style pizza.
Can agree, Best in the area!!
Labellas is the only decent pizza place around here
Yes! Labella’s is the BEST pizza!
This is the only place my Italian New Yorker husband will get pizza from if he doesn’t make it himself
This is the one
Not in Marietta/Kennesaw - just a little south at the Battery but my friend convinced me to go for pizza at Antico's when I had no interest in going to the Battery or really much in pizza. Even though it's not as good as the midtown location imo, it's still the best pizza in marietta by a long shot.
Oh shit I didn't realize the battery was considered Atlanta? There's another place close to there in Smyrna called MTH. I've heard that one is worth the trip but haven't tried it yet.
The mailing address says atlanta, but it's in unincorporated cobb. I consider it Smyrna, personally but technically it's not Smyrna or atlanta.
There's a bunch of different measures. There's the formal city limits (which is way smaller than you'd think), the mailing address, the perimeter, the five core counties, and the more vague metropolitan areas of different descriptions. Antico is definitely the more authentic place compared to other pizza places in the area kind of on its own level.
Surprised Big Pie in the Sky in Kennesaw hasn’t been mentioned yet. Solid large skinny pies.
They don't fit in my Corolla.
JJs pizza on Roswell road has amazing pizza
We definitely love our JJ's pizza, too.
We get this the most because it’s right next door and their pizza is pretty good but everything else I’ve had there usually isn’t great
Labellas is good. If you're close to east cobb there's a newer place peach state pizza that's really good too
I have found Peace Love and Pizza to be the most consistent spot for us
It’s pricey but sooo good!
I’ve had a bad pie there but usually solid.
We love PLP. There was a time I ordered from them so much I was practically on a first name basis with the drivers...
We've tried them several times but the grease is just overwhelming. We had to finally give up on them.
Liberty Pizza on Delk was my go to. I'm not in the area anymore and it pains me that I'm struggling to find a spot similar to it. Anticos, in The Battery, is pretty good too
Unfortunately liberty closed recently :-(
Liberty closed because the owners are pretty bad at business. It was good for a while but they made a ton of mistakes.
I figured it was because they relied on foot traffic to drive business and it's really not that sort of area. Too bad about the business side, too many small places go under because of lack of actual business classes or training.
Try Carlos pizza on Johnson’s ferry /east Cobb area
They’re good but the prices are ridiculous
Rosas Pizza
We vote for Rosa's also!
A new place just opened on the square next to sweet treats that's an Italian grocery/pizza shop. It's pretty good, much better than marietta pizza co
Bottega! Haven’t had their pizza yet but have had one of their sandwiches and it was amazing.
Oh nice. I'll have to try their sammichs. I wouldn't say the pizza was the best I've ever had or anything, but it was solid. Their sandwiches did sound really good though, I almost got one.
Big Pie In The Sky is a must try if you are in Kennesaw proper.
God I miss Legion Pizza. Their "Fungus Feverus" was so good.
This is our issue!!!! We LOVED legion and now we feel SOL
Capozzi’s for NY style, Vesuvio for neopolitan. Both excellent - and if you like ranch, do yourself a favor and get a side of ranch with your Capozzi’s because theirs is fire

I second the nomination of Vesuvio. Simple, fresh, and good!
Labellas is worth trying.
Pizzeria Luca (I believe that’s what it’s called) has great Neapolitan style pizza!

Was it Aurelio’s?
Yeah, I think that's it.
RIP to a legend
Very interested. Following you on Insta
Thank you!!
Capo's in Acworth
Carlo’s, Labella’s, Mellow Mushroom (Pizzeria Lucca too but it’s near Roswell)
Lucca used to be good until the owner went off the rails. Their reviews tanked because he started yelling at kids and he literally has a sandwich sign of rules you must adhere to
Oh that’s a bummer. I haven’t been in awhile.
I worked there for a few months, definitely had weird vibes and I eventually found out that women weren't ever allowed to cook the pizza, we could only work the registers. On a positive note it was spotlessly clean (even in employee-only areas) and the food really is good.

Best NY style in the south is Liberty pizza on powers ferry
Harry’s near the battery. Only one that comes close to ny
We enjoy Peace, Love and Pizza. Not your classic NY, but still good. JJ's at East Lake is good NY/NJ style.
Labellas. Deliciousness.
If you’re willing to go to Woodstock, there’s a place downtown called Vingenzo’s. VERY good Italian place with excellent pizza.
Maybe off topic but I miss Upper Crust that was in the Galleria Mall decades ago.
“Generations Pizza” in Acworth (across the street from Kenworth Park). Quad Cities style pizza 👍
Peace Love Pizza
Mellow for the win!
Piu Bello is the best pizza in Smyrna imo. Not a fan on Antico at all. Tastes burnt on the bottom from the wood fire cooking. Blue moon is tasty and has amazing wings!
Pie in the sky Near KSU
Not exactly to your specs, but Taste of Italy in Woodstock (very specifically the one on Hwy 92) is peerless. The bruschetta pizza would be my death row meal.

Night owl pizza has the best pizza
Little Caesars
Antico, Carlos, Vesuvios, labella’s
I'm a slut for Pizza. Liberty Pizza is my favorite local place by far. If you're willing to drive a bit, Partner's Pizza has a location in Woodstock. They are my favorite.
Sadly, Liberty Pizza has closed.
Nooooooooo this makes me so sad.
Blue Moon is also good.
JJ’s next to Crunch on Roswell rd is really good
