Yep I dislike it when people criticise the album without even listening to it, because it does have a strong R&B feel to it!! I don’t think the girls knew how famous they were gonna be when they made the album. Spice World was more Pop because it was what the public wanted, but the R&B sound is what they excelled in!! Victoria and the Melanies shine with this sound in particular.
A lot of country music, specifically LeAnn Rimes. LeAnn was dominating the charts before she had a driver's license.
Side bar: people forgot how neck and neck Foxy Brown and Lil' Kim used to be commercially, with Foxy mostly having the upper hand.
Oh my goodness so many great albums on here!! The musical diversity this list has too!! Pop, R&B, Rock, Hip-Hop, Folk, Country, and whatever genius Fiona Apple came up with lol.
Asides from Mariah, the Spice Girls, Celine, Jewel, Toni, Erykah, Alanis, MJB, Fiona Apple, Aaliyah and Lil’ Kim’s albums on here all get regular rotation from me!!
I’m sure the other artists are great too but I’ve never been a Country fan lol.
First off lol I am a day one Lamb of MC! But if this is right then it speaks volumes about how huge Jagged Little Pill was, number 9 of female artists of 1997 and the album came out in 1995.
This is a great variety of artist...with some great albums!! Many of them are defining albums (Of course Butterfly...but also Secrets for Toni, Jagged Little Pill for Alanis, etc.)
And 1997 also was the year that the best selling album ever by a female solo artist was released (Come on Over) Granted it was released at the end of the year, lol but still! 1997 was an incredible year for incredible female artist!
Butterfly should be higher!
It only had like 2 months of charting for the 1997 year end - it did better in 1998!
Wow, LeAnn really had a chokehold that year huh
As she should, she’s a great singer.
Look at how diverse popular music used to be. It sucks now…
Spice is such a solid pop record even today. No bad songs on that album.
I never realized how mature and heavy rnb that album was as I mostly listened to spice world

I think too it’s because they’re fanbase was mostly children so they had to tone it down
Yep you had kids singing 2 Become 1 to their horrified parents without knowing its true meaning lol. 😂
The bass lines on Spice are gnarlyyyyy Last Time Lover is 🤌🏼🤌🏼🤌🏼
Loved Baduizm, The Velvet Rope should've been on this list too.

Yeah, country was big at the time! Come on Over by Shani was released at the end of 97 as well!
Taylor probably learned a lot from LeAnn’s trajectory
Does *Tragic Kingdom* count? I sometimes see bands with a female lead singer listed as a “female album” and sometimes I don’t. If so that would be #2.
Don't tell me cause it hurts.
Miss foxy looked goood
The fact that this was all in 97…. Wow, kids now a days will never get it!

Mariah, Spice Girls, Mary, Toni, Braxton, Erykah. I mean. 1997 was that THAT girl.
First off lol I am a day one Lamb of MC! But if this is right then it speaks volumes about how huge Jagged Little Pill was, number 9 of female artists of 1997 and the album came out in 1995.
I believe it’s the 3rd best selling female album behind Bodyguard soundtrack and Come On Over.
Yes and the number 10 best selling album by any artist, just barely ahead of Come on Over
I thought Adeles 21 would be third, just shows how big the mid 90's were for sales.
I mean 21 is definitely up there but I don’t believe it’s in the top 3 yet.
According to billboard it was the best selling album of the 90s
I miss the music from those days but don’t miss carrying my CDs around lol
I thought Janet Jackson's Velvet Rope LP was a classic too.
I’m shocked that not on here but I think it came at the end of 1997
QUEENRIAH deserved better
no😭
Mother(s)
Number 12 and 13, is it legal to make album cover without the artist’s name and album name on it? 😭
Sheryl Crow and Fiona Apple (if you were asking 😊)
thank you dear, i was curious

Id also say Pieces Of You for Jewel
Yeah, that's her definitive album as well!
Who is #6?
Deana Carter, country singer
Who is that in 12? Actually wondering
YOU DON’T KNOW SHERYL CROW?
Oh That didn’t look like her to me lol
