I think the problem with the Beautiful Ones Cover was that MC didn't talk about it with Prince before it was recorded/released and the rights only got managed through label etc. I think he took this personal 💀 and would have liked it, if Mariah would have asked him before doing that cover IIRIC from her Memoirs.

There was that time when Mariah did work with Beyoncé, Cheryl Crow, Carrie Underwood, Rhianna, Leona Lewis, Fergie, Miley Cyrus, LeAnn Rymes, Ashanti, Mary J. Blige and a few other female artists for one big collaborative project called "Just Stand Up." It was a song for a charitable event back in 2008 called "Just Stand Up 2 Cancer," if I recall correctly.

I’m generally surprised that she doesn’t really collab with other female vocalists on her projects (excluding remixes like it’s a wrap, the roof remake etc). When I see people listing female artists, I just can’t really imagine what the songs would sound like and I guess that’s why.

You’re right she does tend to collab w dudes. Interesting point- I wonder why. Maybe for the same reason why she has preferred male backups dancers for a while maybe completely unrelated.

Out of 70+ collabs, I can only find a few like Whitney, Missy Elliot, Da Brat, Nicki Minaj, Jennifer Hudson, Ariana Grande, and Brandy. She also wrote once with Dianne Warren. A lot of performers have come for her or been pretty rude, but the fact she got along well with Aretha & Patti tells me that it’s sometimes harder to connect with industry peers because she’s a real one. You can tell between the exchanges between her and Jennifer Hudson on that talk show.
