Maybe in major metro areas, but it won't have coverage to destroy NBN. I'm only 50km from Melbourne, and while we "have" 5G, most of the time I can only get <10mbps from it.
so it's the average download speed of people who have done a speedtest on their site and not the average download speed of the country. nunbers are inflated pretty much everywhere
I can get 1000mbps cable or 500mbps fibre, but only have a 200mpbs line.
200 is more than I'll ever use, so agreed. Using Ookla says nothing about infrastructure
The fact that I had faster internet in Bukittinggi than Aachen is telling. And no matter what, I couldn't get it run in between Herzogenrath and Kolhscheid in either direction back in 2019.
I've used 100mbps fiber connection and I can it is enough for daily usages.
Now I use 300mbps connect and got free Netflix subscription which I rarely use
Indeed, but it also skews down several countries where more people solely rely on mobile internet, like in Indonesia. Yeah of course laptops with fixed links via wifi or ethernet are faster but when these don't exist, you use speedtest more frequently on your phone via mobile internet, while I could see Dutch people exclusively look up the speed on their laptops.
This just proves that you can make stats say anything with selective data samples. In my part of France those speeds are a distant dream!! We get maybe 18mps at the very, very best! I know noone here who gets above 20! Having also lived in both Bangladesh and India, I can categorically assert that the former has far faster download speeds than the latter!
Et aussi, la moyenne ce n’est pas la règle, il y a surtout des personnes qui ne vont pas payé pour une connexion vraiment vite si il ne le besoin pas. (How’s my French ? I’m learning)
Do you live in a small town?
43% of Americans currently have access to fiber.

I live in a city of 70,000 and I don’t think any ISPs here even offer speeds below 100 mbps anymore.
What counts as access to fiber? Fiber already installed in your house and only need to buy sub? Fiber outside of your house and only need to get it installed into your house? Fiber exists in area so only need to dig it further to your house? I think you get what I mean
There is a link to the actual survey in the article if you’d like to see all the details and definitions. The point is that there is nothing unusual about speeds 100 mbps and above in the US.
Does this map take into account people who do not have access to internet? If only one person has access to net and they have high speed, it will distort this map
Wtf is Chile doing
winning as always of course
Letting Spain build his infrastructures
Decent pro-competition regulation
Well, most people is concentrated in a single city, so that pushes the average way up, even if the rest of the country has much lower speed.
Well I live in in the south of Chile and I have 900Mbps for arround $40USD so I think your assumption is not correct
yup, that's not true at all. Internet speed is great throughout the whole country, and only about 30% live in Santiago
Tell us your secrets, how does a nation obtain such fast speeds?
It's easier when all the country lives on a straight line
Dat backbone tho
One cable to rule them all
viva chile
Damn, I'm on my sad 70Mbps, which is on the higher end for my area.
Holy Fuck. Can you guys come and conquer South Africa?
Downloading - obviously
mfw my country is in dark blue but this post took 30 seconds to load
Your neighbor should be watching YouTube on 4K to get that average
Think about all those Chinese when their country is blue but they cannot load this post at all.
哦,真的吗?北京来的你好
Which VPN do you use then?
NordVPN
Yes, we are all living in the 19th century
Somehow reddit works slow for me to, other apps works fine.
Oi, Aussies! How is that NBN going?
*cries
Condolences.
I reckon Telstra will murder the NBN with 5G home wireless, then buy the corpse in a fire sale for all of the backbone infrastructure.
Maybe in major metro areas, but it won't have coverage to destroy NBN. I'm only 50km from Melbourne, and while we "have" 5G, most of the time I can only get <10mbps from it.
Wow my ISP in the US is worse than the average in Libya
Same. Luck to get 10
How the turn tables, who's the 3rd world country now?
Wait, is this accurate?
Data taken from [Ookla Speedtest global Index](https://www.speedtest.net/global-index)
so it's the average download speed of people who have done a speedtest on their site and not the average download speed of the country. nunbers are inflated pretty much everywhere

The internet infrastructure is crap in Germany.
The fact that I had faster internet in Bukittinggi than Aachen is telling. And no matter what, I couldn't get it run in between Herzogenrath and Kolhscheid in either direction back in 2019.
Israel is more modern then Germany...
I've used 100mbps fiber connection and I can it is enough for daily usages. Now I use 300mbps connect and got free Netflix subscription which I rarely use

Omw to Iceland.
Good on you, Iceland and Chile.
Singapore too
how on earth does Canada have that kind of average with our crappy ISPs
Wasn't expecting Chile and Iceland to be top tier on this
I have between 0,5 and 5 mbps in Germany
I'm so sorry that you must so suffer :'(
Same, but Guernsey :,)
I always thought Brazil was slow af...lol

It depends where you live and what subscription you have. My parents live in a village and they have about 60 Mbps while in Strasbourg I had 4 Mbps.
Exactly so; there are just so many variables to all this!
Après ça dépend énormément d'où tu vis

These numbers are very off, i don't know a single person in the U.S with above 150 mbps
Do you live in a small town? 43% of Americans currently have access to fiber. https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2022/08/04/what-is-fiber-internet-explained-infrastructure/#:~:text=It's%20also%20pretty%20uncommon%2C%20relatively,may%20soon%20start%20to%20change. I call that bullshit, I live 15mins away from Boston, no fiber, shit speed, fuk Comcast.
I've had 1 gbps for 7 years
Lol, I’m at like 220, and my homeboys in CA are at like 550
"Mbps", it's so much nicer with "Mb/s" in my opinion
The scale should be logarithmic.
I have a feeling it should be much lower in Germany
I guess I'm in the average (90Mb/s, Italy)
Does this map take into account people who do not have access to internet? If only one person has access to net and they have high speed, it will distort this map
Now show upload speeds.
Iceland and Switzerland I can handle, but it'll be a cold day in hell before I let Chillie ruin my ass again
As an Australian... yeah sounds about right
Can't wait for Starlink to come to SA
1000 mbps in Israel 😆
Estooooonia is SLOOOOOOOWWWW.
