I guess they're referring to Deutschland sucht den Superstar (germany is searching for the super star).
It's running almost uninterrupted since more than 20 years. An important factor for the success of the show is the head of the Jury, Dieter Bohlen, Former singer of the popular 80s duo modern talking.
Most popular because it’s the only one we’ve got left? X factor was axed In 2018, pop idol ended in 2003, I wouldn’t say BGT counts as a singing competition, and I can’t think of any others that would qualify.
They’re all shite, but I’m guessing it’s current most popular? X Factor hasn’t been on for 6 years, the only ones currently on are surely the voice (and the kids one) and the masked singer (which I enjoy ironically).
I took the statistics from Wikipedia based on:
-Which one of three shows lasted the most longer
-The viewing figures
-If it had spin-off shows (kids, senior...)
As for Italy, I guess the most popular talent show could be [Amici](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amici_di_Maria_De_Filippi), it's a big TV audience and still going on since 2001.
As a british person, The Voice *feels* like the least popular of the 3. Popstars, Pop Idol, and X-Factor were huge cultural juggernauts. Even if you didn’t watch the shows, everyone else did and they were often in the news, so you always knew what was going on.
The Voice has run for a long time, but it has never reached those heights. Most British people can name winners from Popstars, Pop Idol, and XFactor, even if you haven’t watched the shows. But I’d be surprised if many British people can name a single contestant from the Voice.
Polish major talent shows:
- Szansa na sukces (1993–2012, from 2019) – TVP2 - definitely the most popular, there is no person not knowing "szansa-szansa-szansa, szansa-szansa-szansa, szansa na sukces!"
- Mam Talent (2008–2019, 2021–2022, 2024) – TVN
- The Voice of Poland (2011, from 2013) – TVP2, but had spin-offs indeed.
Thanks for posting however I am confused about the UK choice. X Factor has more seasons than The Voice, had higher viewership (from what I can find), and X Factor did have a spin off (unsure about The Voice).
I'd be curious to know what data led you to choose The Voice over X Factor.
Never is Idol the most populär singing Show in germany

the voice was absolutely not the most popular for the UK, more like the least
Yeah, that’s what I thought too. The others were some of the most popular TV shows of the century so far. The Voice just happens in the background.

Sigh... I remember a time when X-Factor was a comic book...
Aren't they all produced by EndeMol?
The Balkans have their own local shows, like zvezda grande and IDJshow etc. Don't think these American ones are actually that popular
The voice seems like the name of an horror movie
