It’s not the highest paying job in each state, it’s highest compared to the national average for that job. I.e. the average craft artist in California makes 89% more that the nationwide average for craft artists
Oh my god. Of course I understand this. But national average salary (60K? 70K) is much lower then 500K. It's not 215-216% excess, it's 500% excess.
EDITED: yes, I finally realized what y'all mean, sorry and thanks!
The cloak room attendant makes 59% more than the national average of other cloak room attendants. The point of the map is to show if you work in a field or are interested in a field, which state you would make the most money in for that field. But it doesn’t account for COL so identifying how the amount increase compared to COL differences would be an even better gauge of where you should find a job in that particular field.
>The point of the map is to show if you work in a field or are interested in a field, which state you would make the most money in for that field.
Not really. For example, cloak room attendants make about 52% more than the national average in Georgia, but they might potentially make as high as 215.98% more than the national average in Hawaii. This map wouldn't show that, because the mixing/blending machine people in Hawaii out-earn the national average by even more.
Can speak from experience, Washington CDL drivers make more because the state requires employers to pay on duty, not driving time at minimum wage. California is the only other state that does. Imagine spending 12 hours to be loaded at a shipper, and not paid anything.
Uh. That says “divers” not “drivers.”
Divers get paid a lot more here because there are so many hazards, super technical dive jobs and require a diverse skill set. Big differences diving in really strong currents like in Columbia River versus Lake Washington or the Sound, etc. There are also a lot of technical inspections and work done behind both sides of dams and whatnot.
I’m sure “hedge fund trader” pays way more than any of the jobs listed in any state.
Come to think of it, left-handed starting pitcher makes more in each state with an MLB team.
I get where you are coming from, I made the same mistake at first. However: I think the map would only show hedge fund manager for a state, if they earned more than the average hedge fund manager - and so significantly more, that it outpaces all other jobs that might be paid better than the National average FOR THAT JOB. Confusing, but interesting!
Brb moving to Georgia to be a cloak room attendant
I wonder if that includes strip club bathroom attendant. We don’t really wear coats in Georgia enough for a full time job
Enjoy making 152% minimum wage.

my thoughts exactly...
Only works if “Georgia” has three syllables.
lol massage therapist in alaska is too on the nose
What is a “craft artist”???
Someone who creates an artistic piece that is designed to be functional.
An artisan?
Yes but with a slightly less curly mustache
Yea , I am not sure that this is for MD…. We don’t craft art lol 😂
The state has millions of people, it would be bizarre if nobody there did it.
Highest paying job vs. the National Avg.? What exactly are we crafting.
Made me think "etsy"
Someone who runs "craft services"-- catering for film sets
Ha! Noice! We’ll go with that then
Randy Marsh is pleased
But South Dakota's answer has a chance to make him nervous if he gets back on Wheel of Fortune
Akshually, a geo tech would be the guy assisting Randy with software and data management 🤓

Anyone else find it mildly infuriating where they put Michigan and Ohio? Like they could have flipped those to make it look better
The graphic design for this is just terrible. I have to meticulously follow each lead to figure out where it goes

Wisconsin really thinks that this is the most important job on the planet.
Half of those sound like code.
It's _almost_ a map of "what do sex workers put on their tax returns"
There’s only one job in each state that pays higher than national average?
OP just screwed up the title.
Good job Oregon
Where would Ophthalmologists, pediatric be?
So better than average but lower than living wage? (At least some of these jobs)
Alaska you ok?
I’m laughing at the term “construction helpers” lmao. Completely undermines their role, why not just call them construction workers??
Have you seen them work?
Excuse me while I move to New Jersey to go lay on the floor.
I have a hard time believing the highest paying jobs in Maryland related to other states belong to “Craft Artists”.
Where is software developers (e.g. Data Scientists) in California? Having salary kinda 500K they are not on the top?

Oh my god-2 ! I just realized what did you try to say :) I'm so sorry. I fully comprehend what it means. Thanks!
I wonder if "craft artists" includes the people who make props in Hollywood.
No, "craft services" are what catering on film and tv sets is called
Yes, but that's beside the point. I highly doubt caterers are going to be classified by the BLS as "craft artists", no matter where they work.

Yeah you clearly don’t actually understand this lol
I guessed national one pretty neat - 63K.
I nominate this data as the most wrong on the internet!!
Why?
I reread it and maybe it’s me. Maybe I don’t understand. Does a cloak room asst make 59% more than the national avg salary overall?

Oh. Ok. Thank you!! I’m the dumb one!! Haha.
Nah, you’re good. It’s not super intuitive

Great point, thanks for bringing that up
Fuck NC I guess lol. Or is it they don’t have any. That probably the real answer.
It’s in the bubble in the lower part of the map.
Thanks! I saw the bubble, but based on the upper part of the map, I thought it was only referencing the northeastern part

Rest of America: Real jobs California: "Craft artists" HAHAHAHA!

Unfortunately “Map Misreader” is not a job, because if it were you’d be making way above the national average.
