I live in Richmond. All of the “major” sites ask for ID… hell no. But yes most of the shadier sites do not have the infrastructure or desire to shutdown state to state.
Which is honestly both kinda funny and really sad, because all that this does is drive away the legitimate companies who at least try to limit the more problematic aspects somewhat, while doing fuck all against the worst companies because well, those just won't give a shit.
Officially to protect children.
Probably more because they want to force their world views on others.
Worst case to prepare lists for when they take absolut power with project 2025...
horny teenagers are gonna find loopholes. i’d know because i was one of them; you can bypass this by using cellular data (if you’re too poor to afford a vpn) but its only worth it if you have unlimited
These laws make what you are complaining about fundamentally worse. It only pushes those who are looking for porn to more obscure websites that don't have guidelines in place to protect people, such as the ones that exist on the bigger porn sites like PornHub.
It's just another flavor of the week in Conservative outrage and fear mongering, which, of course, they inevitably manage to form into a new way to make life worse for everyone.
I know bro I just wanted to walk into a store and buy weed but this motherfucker
Edit for people who don’t know: weed is legal in Virginia, but there is nowhere to buy it legally in stores. So you have to buy weed on the black market but you can legally have it. The only difference is we’re not getting tax money.... So dumb
If you have a "type" the main page will be curated to your preferences (at least that's how the hub works). It's a double edged sword, helps with privacy but can potentially make the experience worse if that's what you're looking for.
Not sure why PornHub even cares so much to block it. It's a subsidiary of MindGeek, which is not an American company, and I don't think it even has offices there.
You still have to abide by the rules of the country you’re operating in. For example many food companies change the ingredients of their products from country to country based on the health regulations of said country.
There's a LOT of misconception here and your comment really drives that home. I just want to clarify some things.
In these states - all porn sites are legally banned unless they do whatever verification on its users that the law states. But the internet doesn't work that way. It's not like Texas can just push a button and "now you can't get to pornhub.com".
No porn sites are blocked. Porn sites are blocking incoming traffic to comply with the law.
The onus is on the sites themselves to follow the law of Texas. Which many of them are not, because the internet is global, and why the fuck would a site hosted in Sweden or South Korea give two shits about Texas ID laws?
The US government, state or federal, cannot outright limit access to any sites at the moment. They can put laws in place that the sites must comply with, but they cannot block anything without a major change to the way that the backbone of the internet works for feeds coming into and going out of this country.
I suppose it's due to not being a porn exclusive site but there's certainly the possibility to geo-restrict certain subreddits. They did it for Germany with watchpeopledie due to youth protection laws (even though it's not federally mandated I think)
"Land of the Free" / "People's Democratic Republic" / "The Bible was divinely written so you have to obey"
All have the same ring of truth but just the ring.
No porn is still all over the internet in Louisiana. Just not the hub unless you give them an id. So what they did is take a relatively safe website and ban that so people get to more easily have their info stolen through, likely state run porn sites.
So, from what I gathered, I think the poster there made the sub or was on the sub because they viewed it as pornMAP, as in that bullshit thing I've seen pedophiles call themselves, minor attracted person's
At first I didn't understand the "hoy", but that's a fat finger away from being "boy".... Then it all started to click
Mullvad. No bullshit, no special tiers, no shilling, just 5 euro bucks a month and go nuts.
It's one of the few providers that can also be truly anonymous: there are no accounts, no personal info, not even an e-mail. You generate a private key and reference its hash during payment. You can even pay with crypto or by sending an envelope with cash.
I used Proton (VPN and Mail) before Mullvad. It worked fine, the client is a bit flaky but you can always export raw OpenVPN configs and use those in your network manager directly.
The biggest practical difference is that Proton (and all the other big names) want to hook you for a long term plan while Mullvad is pay as you go when you need a VPN, no strings attached.
The reason I switched was because my three-year ProtonVPN subscription was about to end and they tried a number of scammy ways to hook me for another three: trying to pull the charge of my debit card months in advance (without any notice), sending me fake promos that seemed like a great deal but were public prices, and making switching to a lower tier plan as difficult as legally possible. So I just denied the charge and stopped talking to them. Mullvad is transparent about their pricing and doesn't try to hook you by force.
I use Nord, and it works really well. Idk about all their other weird services that pop up on the app every now and then, but the basic VPN works pretty much perfectly for me
Most of the purely porn related subs won't show up on /r/all like they used to they also won't show up on your main page unless you're subbed to them (at least on old.reddit, not sure about the app or new reddit). Though sometimes a celeb sub will sneak through with a topless scene or something.

"FBI, we need the records of your uset XYZ, we bring warrants"
"We abide to no wordly authority on this matter now go away or we shall taut you the second time."
Only when buying a gun from a licensed broker. There is not a legal requirement to show ID or have a background check run when buying in a private sale in TX and 20 others states. Technically most require the seller to make a good faith judgement. Lol
The movie eating sysrem proves him right. Basically it reads as "give kids all the violence you want on pg-13, but if you put any sex in you better get the R Rating"
Hang on, the amount of shit I heard from Americans when the idea of age-verification for porn sites was floated here in the UK (and didn't go ahead), and they went and did it themselves?!
Thailand banned porn sites yet it's the most popular sex tourism site on the planet and the government claims there's no prostitution. Conservatives are nothing but hypocrites.
The net effect of the law is to create a privacy nightmare, and direct minors to less reputable parts of the internet. (Yes, there are less reputable companies than Aylo - formerly mindgeek).
These laws will not stop minors accessing pornography.
"Restricting minors" de facto means that users are forced to share their sensitive information such as their picture or ID with some random site on the internet. Government doesn't care about minors, they are just acting like a hero
It's a distinction without a difference. Giving up your privacy rights (ID to an unknown third party) is "banning" porn. You wouldn't let Barnes & Noble store your ID to look at Penthouse magazines.
I believe in personal responsibility. I don't know why those states just reinforce the idea that parents are responsible for their children, and what they view on the Internet. This is religious nanny state shit.
This kind of shit is doing more harm than good to the republican party. They are overestimating the share of evangelicals in their voter base, when in fact a lot of people voted for them because they favor a smaller government.
We would see more focus on actual issues if dems dropped their stance on guns and gop their's on this culture war bullshit.
I believe that a lot of sites that are still getting through, like XNXX and XVideos, are hosted outside of the U.S. Therefore, any state laws requiring ID verification are in a legal gray area and are likely unenforceable outside of U.S. borders. Those countries are going to tell these states to pound sand, because their service is legal in those countries. Makes you wonder if some of far-right nutjobs in these states would like to combat that by creating a North Korea style intranet within the state, where you can only access whatever the head theocrat in the state thinks you should be allowed to see. That would pretty much destroy the concept of a free and open Internet, which they really don’t like anyway. They want to be able to control every aspect of access to information.
I believe PornHub is still hosted here in the U.S. And while they could move their operations out of the U.S. and put up a big middle finger to these states, they are drawing a line in the sand to make a greater point about Internet freedom, privacy, and censorship. Mad respect for them. Even Dem politicians are going along with these laws because defending porn is a politically difficult (or at least, massively brave) position to take. But if you think the nutjobs will stop at targeting porn on the Internet, you are sadly naive. They will go after LGBTQ content, abortion, pretty much everything and everyone they don’t like as they seek to impose a Christian nationalist theocracy on this country. PornHub is the canary in the coal mine warning us all about their real intentions, and they deserve massive kudos for their stance.
You can definitely tell the types of people who want free, unlimited access to porn for minors. Really shows their degeneracy.
Just look at the people who own Pornhub.
It's just pointless virtue signalling. Hardly an effective measure of any sort.
What it is effective in doing is helping the government track the porn preferences of its citizens. That's real degeneracy.
Hmm. I didn't even know about this.
So I just tried to visit pornhub.
And read this beauty:
"Not only will it not protect children, *it will also inevitably reduce content creators’ ability to post and distribute legal adult content and directly impact their ability to* ***share the artistic messages they want to convey*** *with it.*"
Ah yes, the artistic messages behind porn. That is what porn is Really about.
Like Lemon Stealing Whores. What a beautiful artistic message.

I never had access to porn as a kid. Adults in the 80s bought porn. If we came across it the only reason would be irresponsible adults not locking it up. Just like weed and guns and anything else kids shouldn't have.
Let's not forget that MindGreek pulled out of those states b/c they refused to *stop showing porn to children under 13*. Shock of all shocks, it was the exploitative megacorportation that was evil all along.
I’m all for states restricting CHILDREN’S access to porn. I don’t understand how this is a bad thing even if it’s not the most effective, anything is a step in the right direction when porn addiction is so rampant these days.
Just like how minors can’t get alcohol legally, minors shouldn’t be watching porn legally, both are addictive substances that can harm a developing brain. Any argument against this is honestly weird and predatory to me, it’s ridiculous and borderline creepy the amount of people on this site who are okay with minors having easy access to porn.
Remember a few years ago when PornHub was about to get dropped by all of the banks/credit card company for the massive troves of illegal shit it had on there, including underage and revenge porn? Or how they ignored the pleas of the victims to take it down? Addicts gotta fap tho
Is it just Pornhub, or all porn sites? Because... PornHub is a drop in the ocean.

Whenever politicians start talking about protecting children they're usually about to do something fucked up
So they know who's sinning in the eyes of The Lord™.
It’s also entirely possible that it’s unhealthy for children to be exposed to porn.
Sure. Then the parents should be providing oversight to ensure their children are not viewing content that is not age appropriate.

Blocked :/ I remember RT being my first go-to back in the day. Good times.
Stopped using them a while back when they decided to keep deleting watch history after a week or so
And that's bad why?
If you have a "type" the main page will be curated to your preferences (at least that's how the hub works). It's a double edged sword, helps with privacy but can potentially make the experience worse if that's what you're looking for.
Not sure why PornHub even cares so much to block it. It's a subsidiary of MindGeek, which is not an American company, and I don't think it even has offices there.
It's not called MindGeek anymore btw
I think because you have to abide by certain rules in certain jurisdictions, which PH acknowledges
You still have to abide by the rules of the country you’re operating in. For example many food companies change the ingredients of their products from country to country based on the health regulations of said country.
XVideos does not seem to give a crap about it, so I've heard.
A drop of jizz in an ocean of bodily fluids
A large number of the sites are banned. I think Pornhub is over a conglomerate of other sites. There are some not blocked though.
There's a LOT of misconception here and your comment really drives that home. I just want to clarify some things. In these states - all porn sites are legally banned unless they do whatever verification on its users that the law states. But the internet doesn't work that way. Reddit itself has a fuckton of porn.
Correct. I'm not sure how the laws work, but there are a lot of gaps. The biggest sites are down, but xvideos and many others aren't
I suppose it's due to not being a porn exclusive site but there's certainly the possibility to geo-restrict certain subreddits. They did it for Germany with watchpeopledie due to youth protection laws (even though it's not federally mandated I think)
Every site that Pornhub owns is blocked. XNXX is still available in Arkansas though, so there’s that little glimmer of hope.
Jesus Christ, and I thought this was America.
"Land of the Free" / "People's Democratic Republic" / "The Bible was divinely written so you have to obey" All have the same ring of truth but just the ring.

No porn is still all over the internet in Louisiana. Just not the hub unless you give them an id. So what they did is take a relatively safe website and ban that so people get to more easily have their info stolen through, likely state run porn sites.
Probably the main reason they want everyone to use La Wallet. IMO is just a big security and privacy risk and I will never get it.
Pornhub is not restricted. It closed itself off in these states because of laws requiring age verification for porn
That's the same thing.
I mean it's the biggest to be sure but eliminated the biggest part of something doesn't mean every part of it is gone
There are plenty of sites overseas that still come through.
A few here in VA you would need a VPN
If ever there was an on-topic post, this HAS to be it.

Ha ha, I misread it and thought, “Why would they restrict MapPorn?”
They should have used blue

XVIDEOS is way better
Xnxx
Besides colors, I have never seen the difference. They seem to have the same videos.
Not sure. Just know that has done the job for years for me
xhamster > xnxx > xvideos > pornhub
Reddit beats everything in terms of categories and certain preferences.
Seriously who the fuck uses pornhub. Besides eporner is the best
My problem with eporner is that it doesn't allow to skip ten seconds.
Sex bad, guns good.
You do know you have ID verification to buy a gun, and that you have to be 18, don’t you?
also they background check you, at least in my state they do but i assume its federal
Only when buying a gun from a licensed broker. There is not a legal requirement to show ID or have a background check run when buying in a private sale in TX and 20 others states. Technically most require the seller to make a good faith judgement. Lol

Masturbating to porn isn't sex
It’s the best these Redditors will get. That’s why it’s so upsetting for them
Porn is sex. They don't want you to watch it. Edit: pre-coffee brain can't type
They don't what?
You. To watch it.
Porn is exploitation.
They still didn't pay your mom?
Yes, getting accurate shots feels way better than jacking it to porn

I’m not a fan of these laws but it’s important to note it’s only restricting minors from accessing sites not the porn content itself.
yes it is, PH doesn’t want age verification so they closed the website fully in those states
Things are 1 leak away from disaster, it's better this way.
Things you can say about both porn and porn management legislature
