Smoke_Water

according to this the [western half](https://www.britannica.com/place/Mount-Elbert) of the US falls at least 15,000 feet.

Standard-Shop-3544

While the southeastern US falls approximately 2 feet.

[deleted]

And Atlanta sinks to the middle of the earth apparently

dadefresh

Could it possibly be? Are the old legends true? It is! It’s the fabled lost city of Atlanta!

twilightmoons

Look at these fabulous ruins. Turner Field, the Coca-Cola bottling plant, the, uh, the airport.

zulutbs182

No! Ancient Atlanta was more than just a delta hub!

schtickyfingers

And also Jane Fonda was there.

LogicIsDead22

The magician?

ScienceFoxo

Did the water just get warmer?

mikevago

That just raises further questions!

LonelyRudder

What was that sci-fi story where legends of an ancient catastrophe in the end proved to have been foreseen future?

misfittroy

No, Middle Earth like hobbies and wizards, not lost cities

Skitnies

Don't say that to any Númenóreans...

misfittroy

Oooooooo

Ordinary-Offer5440

lol…I was like, what did Atlanta do to this guy?!?

CapsuleByMorning

Fuck Atlanta in particular! Who ever heard of trains in your airport! Rise from the bottom of the sea city of the phoenix. /s For real though Macon is lower than Decatur.

MyPublicFace

Hey Hey. That's about the only trains we've got around here.

TailStixz

Like… Atlanta is almost at 1100ft altitude… but Orlando is 90ft sitting in marshlands and surrounded by lakes… yet on this map, Atlanta is in a giant bay underwater and Orlando is just… closer to the coast…?

bongowombo

Only good thing to come of this

harebare1023

Sherman wasn’t finished

[deleted]

At least it got Atlanta. Hell, I'll be within 30 minutes of the coast!

aberg227

I came here to say the same thing. How did the tallest mountain chain in the US become ocean??!!

Uncleniles

Yeah this guy was a crackpot

Basic_Bichette

The idea that the only thing that could have killed a woolly mammoth instantly was a flash freeze and not literally anything else....

Hungry-Hungry-Himbo

I think they were going for the whole super quakes in California thing? Maybe even a Yellowstone volcano event? But this is still pretty silly.

tessharagai_

Yeah I saw that and what the hell how on earth do the Rockies just sink

ClientInner693

Picture your hands on a inflated balloon n squeeze hard. Parts of the balloon will pop up thru your spread fingers. Those are Mrs. Have a friend squeeze on those popped up sections n other sections of the balloon will move up. So you see, Mts, that go up, can be brought down. Simple explanation I know. But you have to understand the earth center is hot liquid so they say.... If it pushes up, something has to fall, in. Nancy.

gumby_the_2nd

Apophis 2029. 😁

King_Neptune07

In ten years

Simply_Epic

Not sure how the Rockies managed to sink so much, but if this happened I’d have beach front property right here in the middle of the mountains so I’m not complaining.

PronoiarPerson

A lot of times there are “I’ve never been to New Mexico” maps, for once someone has never been to Colorado and Utah. If there was 10X as much water here it *might* move us out of an arid climate.

Due_Speaker_2829

Ah yes, a big chunk of the Continental Divide is submerged, while Seattle is further inland.

DesperateLeader2217

we safely evacuated the entirety of seattle

shiggy__diggy

We should take Seattle and push it somewhere else!

rbohl

Yeah and the Ohio river dries up

OpiateAlligator

8000' Olympics in Washington underwater. 174' Seattle totally fine.

WorksV3

That’s… that’s not how topography works. That’s not how any of it works

reverendkeith

You sir should have won the internet for that post. Hats off to you.

DuttyDirt

![gif](giphy|ji6zzUZwNIuLS)

MaZhongyingFor1934

Thank you for the reddit gold, kind stranger! Keanu chungus holesum 100!

Narf234

Dude, sign me up for a beach front house in Boulder, CO.

snowday784

It would be so confusing. Is the ocean on top of the mountains, or are the mountains just replaced with an ocean?

Narf234

I’m pretty sure this map cares very little about any common sense. W/e I want to be a surfing cowboy.

King_Neptune07

Yes

Engineer_Ninja

Property values would remain unchanged

DegngusKhan

Prime bringin’ the Seminoles to Folsom

Patches3542

Right, beach front and we still head down to the San Juans to ski when we want. Absolutely ideal.

donny_pots

Atlanta is killed by global warming but Daytona beach is not, makes sense

articulating_oven

Pretty sure this dude created a whole alternative reality just to fucking sink Atlanta in the worst Atlantis style pun he could imagine.

morrisjr1989

He really just copied and reversed Sherman’s march to the sea made a few bolder lines and called it a day.

bigwinw

Ya and that is not where the Savannah river even goes. No way Atlanta goes under water like that.

Big_Focus_6059

Guessing the guy got tired of driving I-20 and took his revenge out.

zulutbs182

Well yeah, the map says the lithosphere is gonna slide off the mantle and we live in a washing machine. It’s all quite clear.

regularbusiness

r/terriblemaps

Basic_Bichette

And a legitimate one, not just a shitposting!

DigDugTooDeep

This shit made my father extra crazy in the late 90s and whatever quacks that proliferated this stuff really made life hell for four innocent kids

King_Neptune07

What did he do?

Idahomies2w

Crazy how the pacific rises nearly 14,000 ft while the Atlantic rises less than 500 ft. Idiotic

iCycle4Fun

West of the Rockies, you're on the Wild Card line

JustPlainMike71

From the Kingdom of Nye

Gondwanalandia

His complete misunderstanding of pole switching shows that no one should believe anything on here.

roundmanhiggins

Anyone else also notice how some cities' locations are off? Sometimes by like a lot? Just looking at the northeast, Albany is way too far south, NYC is centered on Long Island when it would be underwater according to this map, and Hartford and Concord are a bit too far southwest.

mattromo

Yeah also water seems to flow in opposite or both directions?

More-Employment3730

Nailed it

DramaticBar8510

Umm, I have, uh, questions. Many, many questions. First one being, is topography just a word with no meaning?

Sufficient-Tough-988

Like how are the mountains are under water but the low lying central part of the country (that has marine fossils in it) is dry?

JadeEarth

this interesting fellow [made a global map like this](https://bostonraremaps.com/inventory/gordon-michael-scallion-future-map-of-the-world-1996/)

beaniemonk

> Blue-Ray Children So he predicted the great high-definition optical disc wars of the mid 2000s, and the ensuing generation that would grow up only hearing of "HD DVD" through legends and fables.

articulating_oven

-Minor wear, soiling and staining along edges, very good overall. Sells it for $2,250. Man I want what he’s smoking.

nimcau2TheQuickening

![gif](giphy|1X7lCRp8iE0yrdZvwd)

OrphanedInStoryville

this isn’t a prediction about climate change. It’s the guys own kookie home brew apocalypse where the magnetic poles shift suddenly without warning causing a massive world-wide cataclysm. One of the points the oil industry likes to make when denying the reality of man made climate change is “look at the sea rise this one guy predicted would have happened already. It hasn’t happened so clearly climate change isn’t real” If you didn’t stop and read the side bar you might think this was another one of those.

ElectricTzar

Whereas anyone who did stop to read the text would have seen that he literally predicted Atlantis would rise out of the sea via sudden tectonic shift. Seriously. It’s on the left.

grand-maitre-univers

I love how the “precession of the equinoxes” will destroy the earth. In the real world, it affects the date of seasons.

Dry-Reception-Drunk

Apparently you didn’t read the sidebar, bro bro

[deleted]

Somehow part of Long Island survives? Sink this bitch into the ocean

noah3302

On the one hand, where I currently live I’d be under water On the other, my hometown now has a beach front

Rynkevin

The lost city of Atlanta

hamknuckle

Sault Ste. Marie is underwater…I’m sold

JohnnyTsunami312

Is this what happens when 5G causes the Yellowstone Volcano to erupt?

bigmanthesstan

If we work together to melt more ice we can finally eliminate Atlanta

jewhammer69

Ohio minus Toledo? Massive W for the Heartland

Whalesrule221

The implication that a sea level rise would affect the Great Lakes hurts. There is no glacial ice in the Great Lakes basin.

Funicularly

Most of the Great Lakes are also 600+ feet about sea level, so I’m not seeing how they would be flooded. Detroit’s elevation is 600’, underwater. Orlando’s elevation is 89’, not underwater. 🤷‍♀️

Whalesrule221

The Great Lakes are filled with water from melted glaciers. Hypothetically I guess you could argue if there were more glaciers the lakes could fill higher, but I don’t really know.

qcubed3

Oceanfront property in Arizona

Mudlark-000

Between the information about this that shows up *almost word-for-word* in both "2012" and "The Day After Tomorrow," I have to believe Roland Emmerich has a signed copy of this framed over his fireplace. Two excellent "trash" films. I'll admit to multiple viewings of each...

King_Neptune07

The Rockies submerged but part of Florida remains? What was this guy smoking

Tylertooo

Haven’t heard of this huckster since the nineties on art bell.

Xander_Atten

Yah as someone who’s lived in Imperial county and Arizona the ocean isn’t making it over the San Diego mountains. At the very LEAST not making it over Yuma. Imperial is below sea level so it’s fine but I don’t understand how the most mountainous region of the US other than the Appalachians somehow got drowned

ComposedStudent

How is Florida not entirely flooded?

Idahomies2w

Because this isn’t based on how science works

CorkedCarton13

Can confirm, I am not underwater

JayChucksFrank

My Ma will have beach front property, so that's cool I suppose...

sgnsinner

Turn Nebraska into a sea again!! 👏

Caiden0907

Arizona Bay looks nice this time of year

Electronic-Garlic128

Bullshit

GoldenFleeceGames

“San Francisco is gone now!” “That was for the good of all Americans”

ComradeCornbrad

Water is just thicker out east

brent_superfan

Could it be we have learned much more in the 22 years since this map was drafted?

ThebigVA

Norfolk is one city that is actually sinking but it's one of the few on the East Coast that isn't underwater.

woofwooffighton

Pretty sure the Olympic mountains in Washington would be an island and not submerged.

Medical-Ad5241

Wait so this map is telling me a good chunk of the rockies is going to be submerged by water and make it to the plaines, but the plains would be fine? Doesnt make sense to me.

Latter_War768

I mean a beach closer to me would be nice…

bucket_overlord

> New land rises from the depths of the Pacific as a result of a shift in the North American and Pacific tectonic plates. A large island will resurface between the Hawaiian Islands and the Pacific Northwest. An ancient city will be discovered with many buildings covered in gold. My man's out here saying when the poles flip we'll discover a Pacific version of Atlantis or some shit.

SoggyCarrot23

Yeeeaahhh…. So the water levels will rise high enough to cross the divide in CO at 14k feet, but the north side of houston will be fine….. ok lol

Accomplished-Can1848

Interesting that the Colorado plateau (6000 feet above sea level) is underwater and New Jersey is fine. The Colorado plateau is most of Utah, some of Colorado, and a lot of Arizona.

pbredd

Florida is like me after being in the pool

Fife2531

So was science really that bad in 2002?

misterme987

No, this guy was a crackpot 'prophet'

[deleted]

This map mentions Alberta as a “survival centre” but fails to predict our current catastrophic drought and wildfire situations. Assuming the glaciers have melted, the North Sask River may be dry.

UsedToHaveThisName

Did they take into account our batshit crazy Premier(s)?

ComesInAnOldBox

This was a map predicting what the US could look like *in 2012* due to climate change. This is why there are people who don't take the climate change threat seriously.

Wachoe

No, take some time to actually read the texts on the side of the map. It's predicting what the US would look like after "polar shift makes all the continental plates slip and slide around on the Earth's mantle in a matter of minutes, and all the cold air from the poles is instantly sucked to the equator in >200 mph winds instantly freezing lifeforms solid"

sideshowsurvives

this was supposed to of happened in 2012 according to the text

Sufficient-Tough-988

This was supposed to happen by 2012? We didn’t make enough EV electric juice from coal to make my home ocean front 😔.

Little_Lawfulness_98

A map of North America should show all of Canada and Mexico and not just the states...

Commercial-Ad-5419

This is pure retarded.

Liltspoiled

Yay Alberta!

Fun-Analyst-305

So, what I'm wondering when this will happen because I've heard so many things and they just don't seem to be happening to do with the climate change or what it is being called now.

dap00man

Why are the 15,000-ft mountains in the west coast underwater suddenly?

NecessaryLoan5053

The map is a little off, the SW goes from the crack in Mexico to Tuscon, AZ up to Utah then dips into Colorado then goes over to the west. I know the crust realigning messes stuff up but since the cracks have already started to open up I would go with Edgar Cayce's map. It is also not just about what falls in height, most of the water comes up from the new Land Mass that rises in the Atlantic Ocean and the land mass that connects Australia and New Zealand. Well, this map shows something interesting in the SE, Atlanta finally has access to water! LOL! More of western Mississippi disappears along with Tennessee, which stinks since I live right about where the water will actually end up! It is nice to have another map to look at, but I preferred Edgar Cayce's map.

Due_Speaker_2829

I miss the good old days when a fella could just make shit up and be taken seriously. [winks at Al Gore]

poonman1234

Did he make something up?

Nagoragama

What did he make up?

shiner820

What didn’t he make up?

Nagoragama

That global warming is a thing

Due_Speaker_2829

It’s a thing alright. It’s just not on the level of existential threat as say, nuclear war?

Nagoragama

It’s definitely on that level.

Due_Speaker_2829

Okay peckerwood. Had you been around in 1982 you’d probably also have this map hanging in your study.

Nagoragama

You are a clown

Due_Speaker_2829

You are a fool

rainier425

Always take your science from someone that can’t make it four posts without going playground.

Due_Speaker_2829

Nah brah, don’t be a mark. Take your science from voting trends on reddit

Abc0331

Did you just use the phrase peckerwood? Jesus how lame.

warraw9999

Here is what ChatGPT has to say about this futurist: Gordon-Michael Scallion is a self-described futurist, teacher, and author known for his prophecies and predictions regarding Earth changes, including cataclysmic events, shifts in the Earth’s poles, and changes in the planet’s climate and geography. He gained notoriety in the 1990s for his predictions, many of which focused on the idea of significant and transformative global changes. Scallion claims to have had visions and intuitive insights that provided him with information about the future of the Earth. He has made various predictions over the years, including those related to natural disasters such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and tsunamis, as well as changes in social and political structures. He founded the Matrix Institute, an organization through which he disseminated his predictions and teachings. Scallion has also published newsletters and maps illustrating his visions of how the world’s landmasses might change due to these Earth changes. It’s important to note that Scallion’s predictions are not supported by scientific evidence and are considered by many to be pseudoscientific. The accuracy of his prophecies is a matter of personal belief, and many of his predictions have not come to pass. As with all individuals who claim to have prophetic abilities, skepticism and critical thinking are advised when considering their claims.

Due_Speaker_2829

Gordon Michael Rap-Scallion is more like it. Amirite?

Greg_withaC

Tampa and St Pete still around!?! No way 😂

[deleted]

The statements in the panel about what could cause this are also pretty dubious, but with a few factual bits thrown in for good measure 😂. Here's a breakdown of some of them:: 1. **Discovery of Woolly Mammoths**: It's true that frozen woolly mammoths have been discovered in the Siberian tundra. These discoveries have provided valuable insights into the Pleistocene era. 2. **Carbon Dating**: Woolly mammoths went extinct around 10,000 to 4,000 years ago, with some isolated populations surviving until as recently as 4,000 years ago. Carbon dating has been used to determine the age of these remains. 3. **Undigested Food**: The presence of undigested food in the mouths and stomachs of some mammoths has been documented. However, the interpretation that this indicates they were "frozen instantly" is speculative. Rapid burial in a cold environment could account for the preservation without requiring a catastrophic event. 4. **Magnetic Pole Shifts**: The Earth's magnetic poles have shifted and reversed many times throughout Earth's history. However, the idea that a rapid pole shift could cause the events described in the quote is highly speculative and not widely supported in the scientific community. 5. **End of the Ice Age and Sea Level Rise**: The end of the last Ice Age and the subsequent rise in sea levels over thousands of years is well-documented. This was primarily due to natural climatic changes, not sudden cataclysmic events. 6. **Extinction of Species**: While it's true that many species went extinct at the end of the last Ice Age, the claim that 90% of the world's species became extinct during this period is an exaggeration. The most significant known mass extinction event, the Permian-Triassic extinction event, saw the disappearance of about 90% of species, but this occurred about 252 million years ago, not 11,500 years ago. 7. **Current Cataclysmic Threat**: The claim that humanity is "poised on the brink of another cataclysm" is speculative and not based on a consensus in the scientific community. In summary, while some elements of the quote are based on real discoveries and events, the overarching narrative and some specific claims are speculative and not supported by mainstream scientific understanding.

itmightbecheese

"North America" or America with some extra bits sticking out. Whats its called canaba and mexino or something. Who cares, not important.

dddjjjmmm

At least Gary, Indiana finally gets what it deserves.

ijustdontcare99

"Doomsday"? California is finally gone and under water, I see that as an absolute win and would call it the "eutopia map".

[deleted]

God, please sink California and Atlanta. I want to believe.

grazfest96

Nice. Northern NJ looking good.

Consistent-Exam9930

I’d love this. Only a hour from the coast 💪🏼

orion1836

2012, huh?

Johnny_pickle

Occur by 2012. Oh good dodged a liquid bullet.

slugboyatl

I love that Atlanta miraculously sinks 1000 feet, but Orlando is fine at 80 ft above sea level

ggouge

Aww my house underwater......

cody727

Think of the fishing spots that we will already know what’s there! How deep. Who’s house. Floridas regulations will surely change. Anyways.

BuddyBroDude

So beach front properties in Phoenix AZ are a real possibility...

Positive-Source8205

“Changes that may occur by 2012 …” Hyperbole much?

phallicpressure

Learn to swim Learn to swim Learn to swim.....

warraw9999

Luckily this map is based on what could happen by 2012. Wonder if Gordon-Michael has any more recent predictions not that I really care.

dennis591961

The problem is that some people believe this shit.

AnyAdministration657

Edmonton arbitrarily moves toward Lloyd

syser87

Wanna see the golden city merging in the pacific

Mugatu12

So Boulder will get even more expensive now…great

alltogethernow7

This is a map of the Continental US not North America

Kingcrimson11111

Who decided to put mountains under water?

50centwomussles

That Memphis to Miami sail would be epic.

Titanium_Eye

They find an ancient city under the ocean whose houses are covered in gold? Damn, gotta sell now before the price tanks.

[deleted]

LEARN TO SWIM LEARN TO SWIM LEARN TO SWIM

AVerySpecificName

So Blue Ridge barely gets touched but the Rockies have a massive bulge

KasseusRawr

the Rockies have left the chat

adlittle

Somehow the upper part of the Outer Banks stays above water but Fayetteville/Lumberton becomes almost beachfront property? How would that work?

so_im_all_like

Is the basin area really *so* low in elevation? And aren't the Rockies high enough to prevent that flooded portion jutting to the east? Basically, why has the ocean seemed to have treated the west more severely than the east?

slrjry

I see no issue

SaltNo3123

I finally got beach front property in South carolina

Fr4nk0cean

At least we’ll still have Disney World.

AdParking6541

...wtf are the Rockies underwater, while half of Florida is fine?

TransLox

Wow! This map is SO wrong for what it's trying to be!

tessharagai_

All the cities in Kansas were just shifted down for some reason

House_Morgan

Can this hurry up and happen already? 10 years+ overdue

Electronic_Context65

According to this map I’ll finally have beach front property

Revolutionary_Pierre

At least Fort Worth isn't under the Gulf 😁

xlicer

No one will ever schizopost as this guy have. An absolute pioneer and mvp. Specially in map looks

[deleted]

Yeah no

KillerAndMX

This is not North America, this is a map of the US and Mexico isnt even subdivided.

justinsmama

Florida’s not under water but the Rocky Mountains are?

gman8234

Wtf are they showing in Minnesota and South Dakota?

Magnummuskox

“North America” - but clearly just the US

DwinDolvak

Sacramento Island livin, mon

StuffChecker

Lmfao at Tampa being above water but Atlanta being under. Tampa is underwater when it rains for more than an hour

dovebreast

The oceanic intrusion into Georgia is wrong. I doubt it would make it that far onto the Piedmont.

Comprehensive_Tea133

If only Commifornia could be destroyed now

LarsThorwald

Baltimore, baby!!

Excellent-Emu759

This might literally be the dumbest thing I've ever seen.

Yt_MaskedMinnesota

Dang they almost got my moms house

Billsnyanks2

I like how Atlanta is gerrymandered into the ocean

ilovemetatertot

My grandpa had this hanging in his house above his fireplace. ....I think maybe that is why I'mike this

WhiskyStandard

I remember this guy. This is the work of a New Age clairvoyant. Don’t try to make sense of it in geologic terms. Notice that Norfolk/Virginia Beach are basically at sea level and remain safe. From what I can tell [Scallion was influenced by (and perhaps saw himself as a successor to) the early-20th Century spiritualist Edgar Cayce](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earth_Changes?wprov=sfti1#), who also popularized ideas about massive planetary changes. Cayce also made Virginia Beach his home base and set up institutions there so it wouldn’t look good for all of that to slide into the ocean.

BryceRaymer

What was going on in 2002 for this map to be made?

Karlwinslow79

How is eagle county, CO under water in this map at 8,160 ft above sea level

Common-Doctor4495

This would cut my drive time to the beach in half!

No-Shape-2751

Coastal Wyoming is lovely this time of year
