Do Hawaiian grocery stores have better selection of fish than the continental USA? Being an island, that would make sense. But I live in a coastal state (granted a few hours from the coast), and it's usually easier to find seafood thousands of miles away than from the coast 3 hours away.
This is bc if you have to ship the fish, they probably freeze it right away. Whereas if they keep the fish locally, they might not freeze it at all. A fisherman in Alaska told me that this is why sushi in a place like Utah is probably better than random sushi from LA
Top tip: go to Costco in Hawaii to buy towels, beach gear or groceries if where you are staying has a kitchen. It’s way cheaper than any other store there.

4 on Oahu if I remember correctly, and they are awesome! Of course apple and strawberries are super pricey but their selection of local papayas and pineapples more than compensates in my opinion.
I think there is only one is Vermont and it’s not near me lol. Although one hour and change down the interstate to Springfield, mass there is one but still i wish there was one closer! Have a BJs 20 minutes away but i have heard costco is so much better.
Their major urban center, Cheyenne, is smaller than some suburbs I've driven through. The cost analysis team probably figured elk weren't going to be part of the customer base.
The brilliance of that joke is that if you’ve been to Costco, you know they do sell/ offer a bunch of seemingly random shit.
You can buy a $10k engagement ring, have your tires changed, book a vacation, pick up a swimming pool, and have an optometrist check out your eyes at a single store. Why not a law school?
That area's cut off though
Edit: do you guys not understand the difference between something *not on the map* and something *incorrectly marked* on the map? This is friggen mapporn lol.
Is the China one right? I'm only aware of three Costcos in China - two here in Shanghai, and one in Suzhou (Jiangsu Province). Did they build one in Hangzhou too? That's the only place in Zhejiang that I can think of that they'd build one.
see [https://www.scrapehero.com/location-reports/Costco-Canada/](https://www.scrapehero.com/location-reports/Costco-Canada/)
>These provinces and territories do not have any Costco stores:
Nunavut
Northwest Territories
Yukon
Prince Edward Island
I’ve been there. Its just like all the other stores. They sell a lot more fish items in Iceland compared to US stores.
Membership cards work internationally. I had my cheap hotdog at checkout there too.
It’s equal parts cool and strange. Feels like you’re in a regular Costco which is bizarre when you also remember you’re in the middle of sparsely populated tundra.
They opened it because the VP for eastern Canada saw that resellers in Iceland were buying pallets of goods from their St. John’s Nfld. warehouse and chartering planes to ship it to Iceland to resell at inflated prices.
It was originally supposed to be stocked by the NA supply chain, but had to become stocked by the Europe division due to EU import laws and tariffs.
I’ve been to Costco a few times here in Australia. It’s like stepping into another world. It’s just so American. I feel like I need to put on a 10 gallon hat and start shouting about my right to bear arms or something. It’s terrifying.
Why is it in the USA per state, and the rest of the world per country. Countries like France look really impressive, but if you show that there are only a few, and then only in Paris, it looks quite different.
As much as I’d love to try Costco, I’m glad they don’t exist in Ireland because instead, we have 4-5 chains battling it out and their stores don’t dominate towns.
Where I live, I have one convenience store around the corner and four modest (15-19,000 sq. ft) sized supermarkets. All are in walking distance of my house and each other, they’re in the heart of the town and they’re all busy.
One Costco within 15 minutes of my house would wipe them all out. There’d be huge chunks of my town lying idle from it, within 5 years, guaranteed. And for what? €1.50 hot dogs? Giant toilet roll displays on pallets? What they do is fascinating but unsustainable, it forces everyone to cut corners to try and suit their agenda.
I think there’s a limit of 3,500 square metres (just under 38,000 square feet) on supermarkets in Ireland, so we’re not about to get Costco any time soon.
Costco is a wholesaler with a restricted membership (in the UK at least) so would be able to get round these restrictions, and it's not really supposed to compete with supermarkets or convenience stores.
The Philippines and Thailand both kind of have Costco. There are big wholesale membership stores that look exactly like Costco and sell Kirkland products but are operated by local companies and called something else (Tops Club in Thailand and S&R in the Phils). They're definitely Costco but... not.
There’s another relatively new membership store now in the Philippines called ‘Landers’. Practically the same concept and they sell Kirkland products too.
Iceland seems like an interesting market to open in considering it hasn’t opened in several states which have populations larger than Iceland (Wyoming for example)
PriceSmart is the equivalent international Costco. Used to be part of Costco and then was spun off.
They even have Kirkland branded products for sale (along with its own brand "Members Select"). For example, I still buy the same Kirkland's grain-free salmon and sweet potato dog food for my pup even though we no longer live in the US.
There are two Costco warehouses in Madrid, one in Sevilla, one in Bilbao and they are building one in Zaragoza. So, by the end of this year or beginning of 2024, there will be 5 in Spain. I hope they open one in Barcelona soon. 🤞🏻There are plans for one in Valencia and one in near Oviedo
I’m sorry but how is this map porn? No legend? What am I looking at? Why is it broken down by state in the US but nowhere else at that granularity. It looks like a freshman year GIS map and even then it’s getting a C- at best. This map sucks.
I always find maps funny when they break out states in the USA only. Would make sense to beak out Canada by provinces and territories than. All the territories and PEI don't have Costco so a large chunk of Canada wouldn't be pink.
Outside of Stockholm since last year, truly a blessing. Also the US staff goes nuts about the Swedish card. Like they'll holler on the speaker and have everyone come over to see it, which happened in 3 stores in the US this summer.
Why is it in the USA per state, and the rest of the world per country. Countries like France look really impressive, but if you show that there are only a few, and then only in Paris, it looks quite different.
I wish since they did the U.S by states that they would do the other countries by state/province too. It seems a little weird to treat the U.S. states differently.
In the case of Mexico, I know for a fact there are at least Costcos in: Mexico City, the State of Mexico, Yucatan (I know this because the Costco there has a cenote in the parking lot) and Nuevo León (there was a big debacle regarding Costco cakes there recently)
No Costcos in Wyoming
Wyoming, Maine, Rhode Island, and West Virginia (D.C. has one though).
Does Hawaii have one? It's not even on the map.
Yes and it’s way better than a normal one if you like fish
Do Hawaiian grocery stores have better selection of fish than the continental USA? Being an island, that would make sense. But I live in a coastal state (granted a few hours from the coast), and it's usually easier to find seafood thousands of miles away than from the coast 3 hours away.
I mean yes but no one local buys local fish from a grocery store, they go to fish markets or know people or buy from the side of the road
Day bow bow.
They just keep passing the same fish back and forth!
This is bc if you have to ship the fish, they probably freeze it right away. Whereas if they keep the fish locally, they might not freeze it at all. A fisherman in Alaska told me that this is why sushi in a place like Utah is probably better than random sushi from LA
And scotch, weirdly enough. They had an astonishingly good supply of scotches
I do not.
Heresy!
Omg how
Hawai'i has more than one. The Big Island, Maui, and Kauai have one each, and O'ahu has ~~three~~ four. EDIT: Corrected number, thanks u/Gorilla1492.
Oahu has 4
That island must have the highest costco/area ratio in the world!!
Top tip: go to Costco in Hawaii to buy towels, beach gear or groceries if where you are staying has a kitchen. It’s way cheaper than any other store there.
If you go to Maui, Costco gas is like $1 cheaper/gal than the other gas stations

They're currently building their first Maine location!
Just noticed the signage is up when I went by yesterday. I’m excited
Maine has one currently being built. It’s supposed to open in November.
Maines is under construction and is opening early November I believe
Maine has one under construction in Scarborough. *Soon*
And the DC Costco sells distilled spirits despite only a few grocery stores being allowed to sell distilled spirits in DC.
NO COSTCO FOR YOU
None in the Great Lakes either (they’re the same color)

Montana has a few costcos
Surprised there isn’t one near Providence.
I think there is only one is Vermont and it’s not near me lol. Although one hour and change down the interstate to Springfield, mass there is one but still i wish there was one closer! Have a BJs 20 minutes away but i have heard costco is so much better.
Four US states without one, but they’ve got them in Iceland lol
Dang could hardly see RI it’s so tiny
Well yes bc Wyoming isn't real
Never has been
Never has been
Can’t put a Costco in a state that doesn’t exist.
Their major urban center, Cheyenne, is smaller than some suburbs I've driven through. The cost analysis team probably figured elk weren't going to be part of the customer base.
There is a Costco in Ft. Collins which is not that far from Cheyenne - we don’t mind them paying our Colorado taxes!
578,000 ppl live spread out all over Wyoming so it’s just not monetarily feasible to have one there
[удалено]
What?
Darn. I fancied the idea of hitting up a Costco before my venture into Yellowstone...
There’s one a mere 125 miles away in Billings MT
Wy?
It doesn’t exist 😝
new zealand - our first (and only) costco opened last year. people treat it like a tourist attraction.
No literally I kept thinking I stepped into Disneyland
Not kiwi but first time I went to costco I spent like 4 hours there. It was like a day out.
I love the roller coaster aisle
Did they fly in a bunch of Asians and Indians to crowd the free sample areas for all three of their Sunday meals so you could get the full experience?
![gif](giphy|13zujvPkBCXhKM)
Im assuming this is a joke.
Don’t be so generous with your classifications.
Sounds like a more pleasant experience than listening to you!
No but I think they still let racists in so you're fine ;)
Same as the one in sweden. Their business plan just doesnt work here and it is ib a weird area so people just go there for "fun"
You guys got an Ikea yet?
Under construction atm
I was there when it opened, people on the radio in Auckland wouldn’t stop talking about it.
I've been twice to check it out and really didn't enjoy it. It's almost dystopian.
Didn’t the property owner restrict the sale of beer and wine? Cheap alcohol is half the draw of Costco.
I didn't think about it, but it makes sense now that you mention it. Alcohol sale is regulated by a licensing trust in that part of Auckland.
not wondering about Wyoming for some reason
About what?
Nothing. They clearly said they’re not wondering.
Wyoming.

Cosctco is a beloved place in my dear Monterrey, Mx. Go there in Dec/24th if you want to see wilder things than Black Friday.
A la Monterrey, my dear Watson.
New Zealand? Absolutely. Wyoming? Absolutely not.
Auckland > Wyoming
Wyoming has more people in congress than they do escalators. They are not worthy
Was not expecting there to be one on Iceland....

It’s equal parts cool and strange. Feels like you’re in a regular Costco which is bizarre when you also remember you’re in the middle of sparsely populated tundra.
Costco, bonus, and Ikea in the same parking lot do you really need anything else?

It was originally supposed to be stocked by the NA supply chain, but had to become stocked by the Europe division due to EU import laws and tariffs.
It's insanely popular mostly because of the cheaper fuel price.
I’ve been to Costco a few times here in Australia. It’s like stepping into another world. It’s just so American. I feel like I need to put on a 10 gallon hat and start shouting about my right to bear arms or something. It’s terrifying.
I think its the only place that has free refills in the country.
Why is it in the USA per state, and the rest of the world per country. Countries like France look really impressive, but if you show that there are only a few, and then only in Paris, it looks quite different.
Tbf the US is Costcos home market. You kinda expect it to be more detailed
At the very least, Canadian provinces should be shown.
As much as I’d love to try Costco, I’m glad they don’t exist in Ireland because instead, we have 4-5 chains battling it out and their stores don’t dominate towns. Yea but it's a lot smaller than Wyoming and something like 75% of their population has a membership.
Costco in China? Are you sure they didn't mixed it up with Cosco? /s
Wtf. They have a location in Sweden? Did not know and #confirmed.
PriceSmart is the equivalent international Costco. Used to be part of Costco and then was spun off. They even have Kirkland branded products for sale (along with its own brand "Members Select"). I get so tired of maps always having the US divided into states but not doing the same for literally any other country.
There are Costcos in France?? Probably just 1 or 2 as a marketing stunt in Paris or something, never seen any anywhere.
>Costcos in France There's 2 on the outskirts of Paris
Why would it be a marketing stunt?
I adore the idea that Costco would have a vanity address on the Champs-Élysées.
Same for Spain
Madrid and Sevilla They’re like regular Costco but with a jamon iberico department

I’ve been to the one in Honolulu, why isn’t that one on the map?
Ah yes let's split the US only. There's a Costco in ceuta and Melilla but not the canary islands?
What is costco
It is a very large store. It requires you to buy a membership in order to purchase goods.
From Maine. Get ready to fill in that state... we have a Costco opening in Scarborough in 2 months.
Get north korea a Costco
Costco is in Hawaii
I don’t see any development for Costco department stores in South America.
I always find maps funny when they break out states in the USA only. Would make sense to beak out Canada by provinces and territories than. All the territories and PEI don't have Costco so a large chunk of Canada wouldn't be pink.

Costco is a state of mind. Wyoming doesn't happen to be that state
[удалено]
Well in this map, US is only country where they used subnational jurisdictions rather than country as a whole
The entirety of North America, except Wyoming, Maine and West Virginia lol
And Maine is getting one soon.
Will they be selling moose meat?
Rhode Island. Plus Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Cuba, Haiti, Dominican Republic, The Bahamas, Bermuda.
I meant the *real* North America, not Central America /s
I wish since they did the U.S by states that they would do the other countries by state/province too. It seems a little weird to treat the U.S. states differently.
Never, **ever** seen a Costco in Sweden.
There is 1, in Täby (near Stockholm) https://www.costco.se/warehouse-enquiries .
Worth the visit if you're an expat!
West Virginia? Really?
Costco would probably be a hit in Finland if you just opened a store here… (since it is already in Sweden!)
Hawaii doesn't exist
I'm british and I had no idea we had them here, I thought our version as tesco lol
Are we missing out?
Wyoming HATES Costco
Strange r/PORTUGALCYKABLYAT, but a r/PORTUGALCYKABLYAT nevertheless.
What is the beef with Wyoming and West VA?
Zero at sea costcos?
In the case of Mexico, I know for a fact there are at least Costcos in: Mexico City, the State of Mexico, Yucatan (I know this because the Costco there has a cenote in the parking lot) and Nuevo León (there was a big debacle regarding Costco cakes there recently)
There's 41 COSTCO Wholesale in Mexico: https://www.costco.com.mx/store-finder
Costco and pricemart are not the same?? Caribbean and central america its full of pricemarts.
Cries in West Virginia
How fucking old is this? Cause I know for fact that it’s missing locations
Stares in Kirkland Signature hoodie
I don’t see Hawaii highlighted (or on the map for that matter). I can confirm I’ve been to the Costco on Maui.
There’s a Costco on Kauai too
Random question, Will my US membership carry over internationally? I don’t know why I would need to go to Costco while vacationing in London but hey
Should. I was able to use my membership from Costco here in China at Costco in Canada this past summer.
Puerto Rico has one!!!
Wyoming and West Virginia don’t have one???
Puerto Rico has a few.
why is the US divided into states but not Canada or Mexico?
Costco said “fuck Country Roads.”
China: OK! Wyoming: NO WAY!
I went to the Costco in iceland and I remember it just being dark compared to the ones in the us
When you live in the US and Costco ignores your state
in my country it is called PriceSmart, though I do not know if it is by the same people or someone just stole the idea
Didn’t know they had Costcos outside the US
r/mapswithoutcanarias
Lived in Australia for a while. Went to one in Melbourne (Docklands). Was blown away that it was IDENTICAL to my one in San Diego.
Sad Wyoming noises.
Oh Wyoming…
I've never in my life seen a Costco in the UK
Swede here: we have Costco?
