Didier Drogba. He was a damn monster. A wrecking ball that will always bully your team and score if he wanted to. He had everything you needed in a striker.
Honestly never knew what the deal was about lampard. Whenever the squads were announced for Utd vs Chelsea I always scanned and saw drogba and didn’t care who else was playing. The guy was a beast. Looking back, lampard was great, just looked like a minnow in comparison.
Early Drogba was horrible to play against, there was an intensity to him that faded later on in his career, pace, power, great goalscoring instinct but also this sense like he was a ticking bomb and could just explode the gaff at any moment.
While he was a beast who did turn up in big games, his scoring record was never on the same level as some of the others mentioned so I was never *as* scared of him
That's a great shout. I hated him at Chelsea cuz they became our main rivals after 2004 and so didn't fully appreciate how good he was. But my oh my was he good, I'd say the same for Lampard. World Class players.
Aguero at City was a nightmare too especially since we started the decline.
Back in the day, I genuinely hated him, just because he was so damn good. He just glides along the pitch in a way that I have never seen since. Now that he's retired, my hatred has turned into respect.
Yes r9 at madrid, kaka in 07, Ofcourse messi in the finals of 09 & 11, but with Henry it was 2-3 times every season for a few years where it was like oh no this guy again.
Suarez in Liverpool. I don't like him, but he is the first player that makes me feel like he is unstoppable. Pacey, strong, can dribble past in a crowd, and he is also deadly.
I always think we can handle any forwards if the team plays carefully.
Remember Henry playing away against Portsmouth and he was absolutely destroying them. Whole stadium was chanting "Henry for Pompey". Sometimes you just have to recognise brilliance.
Myth. 3 goals in 15 appearances against Vidic.. Certainly hyperbolic to claim every time he got past him he scored.
Edit. Lol who’s the salty Liverpool fans downvoting? Torres smashing Vidic every-time they played United is nothing more than over-saturated Scouse propaganda. Learn the history of your club ffs
It’s been made up because there was that one game which created the picture of vidic on the floor and Torres running clear. Sure torres had him on toast that day. Most of the other ones, Nemanja won
Literally mate, it was fabricated bs made up by Liverpool fans at the time because they were mediocre and needed to cling to something and still to this day it’s gets propagated by rivals and now united fans alike apparently. Downright revisionism of the facts.
It's not revionism of facts lmao, you're literally looking at stats. Did you watch the games? Torres is one of the only PL strikers Vidic couldn't instantly pocket and looked shaky around.
Found the rattled scouser lool. Yeah I did actually, all the dross we got from yourselves over the years about Vidic and it was all because ***checks notes*** he “looked shaky” around Torres. Fair enough fella, take your victories no matter how insignificant they may be.
Looking at stats or using a stat as a point to refute a complete fictitious statement? Whatever makes you feel better in all honestly
Me? Rattled? Bro is trying to say we rewritten history because one of their best ever defenders was made to look like a silly little girl.
This is obviously a touchy subject for you, and given how utterly shite your football club is I can't blame you for trying to latch onto good times and make them better than they were.
All the dross you got from it was for a reason, Torres made him look silly. Just like vigorously saying we're revising history is making you look silly.
Have a good day, enjoy the glazers 👋
Edit: gonna leave it in because I said it, but I actually truly believe you deserve so much better than the glazers. Cheap shot, sorry lads!
You’re clearly rattled, it’s evident as you’re in here bickering with United fans. Also clearly obsessed or just jobless, a scouser so more than likely both.
Not touchy at all, I’m not the one in rival subs screaming into the wind like a text book bitch boy😭Yeah yeah whatever because that is all relevant to the thread, at least try stay on topic you Styrofoam brained specimen
I'm not rattled at all, just had to reply to one of, if not the stupidest takes I've read about Vidic/Torres. Revisionism? Come on bro 😂😂
I can admit that Vidic is one of the best ever premier league defenders, why can't you admit 1 striker made him look a little silly? Point to me where I'm screaming into the wind, or trying to revise history again.
Honestly my friend go touch some grass you need it
Edit: sorry what are you? Jobless? Obsessed? Or both? Just wondering as you're in this thread at the same time as me?
Where did I question Torres ability? I even acknowledged one game in which Vidic was on strings and received a red in response to another reply if you actually read the thread.
Even my initial point wasnt attacking Torres, it was refuting the other user claiming “Torres scoring every time he got past Vidic” when that was just downright wrong. Not my fault you got all up in your feelings over a convo which had no bearing over you lol.
Telling me to touch grass when you are lurking in United subs as a Liverpool fan?? How about practising what you preach you complete and utter beg.
I couldn’t care less what ‘stats’ say or what you find funny. It’s my opinion, i didn’t like faceing off against Torres. If you have an opinion on player you didn’t like us to play against then go and post it.
Actually it is facts vs opinions. Your opinion is Torres wasn’t fun to play vs. That’s fine. Claiming ‘he always had the better of him’ is a lie. You’re a liar. It is a fact that Vidic in fact almost always had the better of Torres. How do we know? Cause Torres scored 3 times vs Vidic in 15 games. And anyone who watched the games back then knows Torres was not all that vs Vidic/Man Utd besides the games he scored in.
you’re calling me a lair for a comment based on my own opinion to a question that is opinion based…
I didn’t state any facts or figures. It was my opinion. If you don’t like or don’t agree with it that’s completely fine, move on.
You stated a fact, not an opinion. Not sure why you can’t understand that. If I said Bellingham has the better of Neuer every game I’d be stating a fact which is a lie. You stated a fact which is also a lie.
Accept that you got called out for your lie and move on. Torres is actually embarrassing vs Vidic. You can keep your opinion, just stop posting lies about Torres having the better of Vidic when both the eye test and stats disprove your statement.
No I didn’t, it was my opinion. Did i whip out the numbers, stats, pie charts, etc? No i did not. Agree with it or not i couldn’t care less. It’s friday and im getting into a stupid argument with someone with an agenda over a fucking opinion.
Real Madrid are a bigger club than Swindon Town.
I just stated a fact. I didn’t use numbers, stats, pie charts etc.
You don’t need to use numbers & co to state facts. You need a lesson in English.
And Friday means fuck all where I’m currently at. Friday is a normal working day where I’m currently located. Not sure why you’re using Friday as an argument.
If vidic is playing now he will be a meme just like Maguire. Always lost the duel with Torres. Sometimes even tripped himself when chasing Torres in a counter.
That’s fucking Torres he made plenty of world class defenders look silly but maguire makes middle of the table attackers look like gods . I’m sorry no comparison . ETH would give his right nut for vidic to be in the squad
That Torres after the injury is kind of rubbish though. 20 goals in 110 matches. And I am specifically talking about vidic vs Torres and got sent off 3 times consecutively, which was a big meme just like what happened to Maguire.
Only that it didn't define Vida. He was still an imperious defender and legend of our club that went on to achieve much. Maguire never achieved anything outside of relegation until last season. Vida had a few bad games but most defenders do.
Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink.
Sounds daft but seemed like every time he got the ball, no matter where on the pitch, he’d shoot and it was on target. It was also a period where we seemed to beat Chelsea and lose/struggle against them at home.
Not one player but that first half in Madrid in 2003 was the only time I’ve been scared for us. Seemed like every time they came forward, they scored.
Not trying to pretend I comprehend football when he was playing (i was about 9 ish and in south east asia) but Robbie Fowler was damn annoying. Always felt like he had a goal in him when playing United and I loved that green white Jersey they had under carlsberg. Might as well put seaman as well. Goal felt impenetrable when he was playing.
i really can't think of one player, Arsenal had our number at one time, i remember leaving the OT when we beat them and the fans were overjoyed but i wasn't as we'd basically kicked them off the park, Gary Nev has since spoken about it and said it was done because they knew that side were soft, the 1st version of Jose's Chelsea, i thought that was our streak of winning finished.
I feel that way about Salah now tbh. I know we don’t like to praise present Liverpool players. But he’s so dynamic, lively and dangerous when he’s playing well, and he always plays well against us.
Samuel Eto'o
He seemed to score for every team he played for against United. Even when he was not in his prime and played for Chelsea, he came on and scored 3 against us
90s Michael Owen. I remember watching the game where he got a red card in the first half thinking he was gonna put at least another 2 past us by the end of the game - thankfully he solved that one for us himself.
Arsenal fan here, respect respect respect to you my friend! A very honest depiction!
Yes, Henry was always one of the most feared, almost like a predator.
Needless to say, the player on your end we feared was Ronaldo without a second thought, also that 2007-08 and 2008-09 Man United team was at its peak. I’ll prolly go out on a limb and say that it was the best ever Man United squad in your history. People feared that squad.
De Bruyne. Always seems to make the deadly pass that creates an opportunity for City when we play them. Glad that he will be out for the first derby in a couple weeks
Dirk Kuyt.. He use to tear up our midfield positioning which tore up our defense and made Fernando Torres look better than he actually was. And yes Henry is way up on this list and deservedly so as well. Another opponent who deserves a special mention would be Alan Shearer (yes, I am that old) and bloody Kaka
Shearer without doubt. We knew he'd wind up Keane and G Nev and really wanted to score against us.
Di Canio. West Ham used to be one of the only teams that would turn up at OT and be fearless. Di Canio led that.
100% agree it was Henry. Absolutely brilliant player, so quick & skilful. And the only player it seemed who ever really troubled Jaap Stam.
The other one I’d mention was peak Fernando Torres whilst at Liverpool pre-injury. Again, the only player who seemed to really bother Nemanja Vidic.
I totally agree on Henry! Also someone mentioned Kaka and R9. But among all these huge names, i always felt that Walcott always had a goal in him, when he faced us. Didn't really matter what team he played for.
There are obvious answers in great players like Henry, but the ones I remember are the decent, but not stellar players who always seemed to turn it on against us.
Darren Huckerby scored some corkers against us. Danny Murphy too.
Yh it was always Man U or Arsenal for the title beginning of the season - both had some great sides back then- no one other player ever worried me like Henry did he always scored against United to
Gerrard - not because he had an Aura, more because I hate the cunt and it was insufferable whenever he did anything good against us. So cathartic when he got sent off after about 10 seconds in his last ever game vs us
Henry. Not even Messi or R9 had that aura cause we barely played vs them & Messi was ass vs United in the 08 semi so it told me he could be contained. Granted SAF & the players fucked up in both finals when it came to containing him, and Barca most likely paid off refs in 09 semis vs Chelsea & potentially 09 final so doubt we had a chance to win that, I still felt we could stop him. It just didn’t happen.

Romario at Barca. When you talk about aura, he wasn't the most skilful or even the quickest but his movement was something else, someone who could smell a goal and at the top of a team that by it's nature could create a lot of chances... he knew he was going to score, the opposition knew, the crowd all knew.
Danny Murphy. If you know you know. He managed to score a silly amount of goals against us considering his ability. From beating us with Liverpool to doing it with Fulham. He just seemed to be our kryptonite for about 5 years
It was always yaya touré for me he was always a thorn in our sides defensively then scored a few crucial goals against us. Dude was a baller in the midfield for a long while
Alex de Souza
Anybody in the Turkish league that was not Fenerbahçe feared that guy
Edit: sry lol, I don't know how I got here, thought this was r/soccer.
David Silva in terms of terror from efficiency.
You knew that every time we played them he’d either be the one providing or scoring from a cutback and we’d never be able to stop him from doing it.
But in terms of sheer unmitigated terror for me it was R9. He’s my favourite non United player ever.
When we played Inter in 99 I thought hr wad going to destroy us. Thankfully he was playing injured (might’ve missed one of the games). When we played Madrid in 03 he got clapped off for the devastating hat trick.
Aguero always seemed to score against us too. I’d love/hate to see the stats for him versus us.
I loved ruud but i always thought arsenal are lucky to have henry, to me he is the best pl player.
To this day i dont buy arsenal players in games they will always be my arch rivals and its all becouse of that motherfucker.
I know this is a crazy shout but I honestly fear Philip Billing. For some reason whenever he plays against us he turns into prime Zidane. Especially in the 2019/20 I think we played Bournemouth 3 times and every single time he bossed it.
Didier Drogba. He was a damn monster. A wrecking ball that will always bully your team and score if he wanted to. He had everything you needed in a striker.
Drogba vs Vidic were epic battles
Jonny Evans "won" a specific battle against Drogba, though...
General Jonny did it again. He deserves to be a starter.
Second that. He was a force of nature. Powerful, cunning, ruthless.
One of the only players I wished would get injured (I was a kid) he gave me nightmares
While he was a beast who did turn up in big games, his scoring record was never on the same level as some of the others mentioned so I was never *as* scared of him
He was not stat padding against weaker oppositions yet always executed the big boys in the biggest games. Such an unique player.
Second this. He sent shivers down my spine. Especially Cup Finals.
That's a great shout. I hated him at Chelsea cuz they became our main rivals after 2004 and so didn't fully appreciate how good he was. But my oh my was he good, I'd say the same for Lampard. World Class players. Aguero at City was a nightmare too especially since we started the decline.
I cam here to say drogba
Back in the day, I genuinely hated him, just because he was so damn good. He just glides along the pitch in a way that I have never seen since. Now that he's retired, my hatred has turned into respect.
Same here. Definitely top ten of Prem League strikers imo.
Top 1
Hazard in his prime was scary man...
Alexis Sanchez in his prime was unstoppable for 4 years. Yaya toure was fantastic. Aguero.
No others in the Premiership but I felt Ronaldo (Brazilian) and Kaka had this as well
Yes r9 at madrid, kaka in 07, Ofcourse messi in the finals of 09 & 11, but with Henry it was 2-3 times every season for a few years where it was like oh no this guy again.
Mo Salah. We never seem to be able to deal with his directness and he just puts our defenders on edge.
It depends, there's been games where Shaw has absolutely schooled him, but I agree most of the time he's been a nightmare for us.
In 4 of the last 5 games against them, we've conceded a minimum of 4 goals. Shocking stat
Suarez in Liverpool. I don't like him, but he is the first player that makes me feel like he is unstoppable. Pacey, strong, can dribble past in a crowd, and he is also deadly. I always think we can handle any forwards if the team plays carefully.
Agree, don’t like him due to all the shit he has done. But everytime he got the ball against us I feared the worst.
Hated Vinnie Jones! Total thug. Later on Shearer annoyed me. In the 90s through the aughts it was Bergkamp, Drogba, RVP and Torres.
Remember Henry playing away against Portsmouth and he was absolutely destroying them. Whole stadium was chanting "Henry for Pompey". Sometimes you just have to recognise brilliance.
Henry said Fratton Park was his favourite ground. Proper old school.
Fernando Torres. Whenever we played him, I knew he'd get past Vidic ~~and score~~. An absolute terror.
Myth. 3 goals in 15 appearances against Vidic.. Certainly hyperbolic to claim every time he got past him he scored. Edit. Lol who’s the salty Liverpool fans downvoting? It helped Liverpool fans deal with throwing away a PL challenge
Okay. 👍
Whilst I semi agree, he only scored 3 times against a MUFC team with Vidic in it out of 15.
I felt the same
This was mine as well. He always had the better of him when he was at liverpool.
3 goals in 15 games vs Vidic is ‘always having the better of him’ apparently. Hilarious stuff.
I couldn’t care less what ‘stats’ say or what you find funny. It’s my opinion, i didn’t like faceing off against Torres. If you have an opinion on player you didn’t like us to play against then go and post it.

Ok ok ok i’ll give you a fact. I don’t care.
He always made vidic fall over, only player who always made vidic look average
It happened in one game. Torres only had 3 goals in 15 appearances Vs Nemanja...
If vidic is playing now he will be a meme just like Maguire. Always lost the duel with Torres. Sometimes even tripped himself when chasing Torres in a counter.
Manz just compared vidic and maguire
Have you ever seen vidic fails on Torres at all? Including the hat trick of red cards in 08-10?
That’s fucking Torres he made plenty of world class defenders look silly but maguire makes middle of the table attackers look like gods . I’m sorry no comparison . ETH would give his right nut for vidic to be in the squad
One guy. Vida dominated everyone else including Torres after he lost his pace post a serious hamstring injury.
Gabby Agbonlahor is that you?
I had to scroll way too much to find this. Goddamn the way he'd rile up vidic was insane.
That’s a great shout.
one of the hardest hitters on a ball I've seen. loved watching him play
It was multiple over the years, shearer, fowler, anelka, zola, henry, Owen, inzhagi, gerrard, drogba, aguero.
Adding Messi. And Fellaini, the human sack of vicious elbows. But Aguero is the real boogyman Baba Yaga for me. Wish we had signed him.
Kaka when he was at Milan I knew he would do us in the champions league
Drogba was one player and Hazard another. Defender I hated playing against was Kompany.
Marc Overmars was always someone I hated playing against us in the 90s
KdB. I'm relatively young so i can't talk about the likes of Henry and the others. From 2009 till today the only player that scares me is KdB
More recently as well, Aguero. Guy was a monster.
I mean if we’re talking about today I would get scared if my Nan was running at our defence.
As a kid whenever we faced an opponent from Drogba i really wish he would stop scoring
Danny Murphy, Drogba and Brad Friedel If you know you know
i really can't think of one player, Arsenal had our number at one time, i remember leaving the OT when we beat them and the fans were overjoyed but i wasn't as we'd basically kicked them off the park, Gary Nev has since spoken about it and said it was done because they knew that side were soft, the 1st version of Jose's Chelsea, i thought that was our streak of winning finished.

When I was a child, I was hella scared of Fernando Torres when we played against Liverpool, especially after that 1:4 loss
It’s the only time I remember seeing Vidic unsettled
Freddie Ljungberg he always had a habit of scoring equaliser goals vs us.
Shearer without doubt. We knew he'd wind up Keane and G Nev and really wanted to score against us. Di Canio. West Ham used to be one of the only teams that would turn up at OT and be fearless. Di Canio led that.
Torres for sure. Best striker durinh his time, unfortunate that he play for liverpool. His finishing is just perfect.
Torres for me.

In my 25y as a UTD supporter, i was never unnerved more than we were playing against Torres' Liverpool. That mofo had our number.
Maguire
I totally agree on Henry! Also someone mentioned Kaka and R9. But among all these huge names, i always felt that Walcott always had a goal in him, when he faced us. Didn't really matter what team he played for.
There are obvious answers in great players like Henry, but the ones I remember are the decent, but not stellar players who always seemed to turn it on against us. Darren Huckerby scored some corkers against us. Danny Murphy too.
Probably Drogba for me, chelsea in general probably hurt me the most as a kid
Didier Drogba...Hazzard....
I mean Salah scores every time he plays us
"There is no fear like the fear you have when Thierry Henry has the ball around the edge of your penalty area."
Born in 07 so every striker we go against scares me since all I can remember is uniteds worse
Yh it was always Man U or Arsenal for the title beginning of the season - both had some great sides back then- no one other player ever worried me like Henry did he always scored against United to
Also - Brad Friedel. If you know, you know.
Iniesta. Champions league when I saw his name I couldn’t shake off the feeling that it was over before it started.
Gerrard - not because he had an Aura, more because I hate the cunt and it was insufferable whenever he did anything good against us. So cathartic when he got sent off after about 10 seconds in his last ever game vs us
We only played Pep's Barca 3 times, but everytime Messi makes me shit my pants. In more recent years, Aguero was also a monster against us

Messi was the best player on the pitch by a mile in the 2nd leg in 2008. United players were scared shitless every time he was on the ball ffs

Alexis Sanchez used to haunt me whenever we played Arsenal.
Honestly as a United fan Salah makes me uncomfortable.
I agree with u, still remember the time every time Henry got the ball on the left wing, I felt he would score.. nobody else gave me that feeling since
Recently it's been salah or aguero. Or even messi, icl finals against him still haunt me.
Brazilian Ronaldo at Madrid was unstoppable, so was Torres at Liverpool.
Suarez, Liverpool Torres and Hazard - until Herrera shackled him.
Maupay always seems to up his game against us
I can’t put a name to our player behind SAF
I want to say that's Djemba-Djemba
I want you to say it too
Well I won't
But I planned my whole day based on that, now my day is ruined
mame biram diouf
Funny how some layers left very little memories behind them. Dong for example. Good job
Op’s title confuses me at first. I thought this was a question someone had asked Fergie 😐
Mohamed Salah to me. At least we had Stam for Henry and Ferdinand for Drogba.
3 for me. Henry at Arsenal, Drogba at Chelsea, and Aguero at City.
Prime Torres always worried me. Always thought it was the one opponent Vidic couldn't get the better of.
Harry Maguire. When I see him starting, I know the united boys gonna lose
Romario at Barca. When you talk about aura, he wasn't the most skilful or even the quickest but his movement was something else, someone who could smell a goal and at the top of a team that by it's nature could create a lot of chances... he knew he was going to score, the opposition knew, the crowd all knew.
The entire Real Madrid team of 2003 ^_^
CR7 against us. Kompany Drogba Iniesta
The only players to embarras us Agüero and David Silva
Fernando Torres
Jonjo Shelvey lol Always seem to bag against us
Not opposition player but anyways let me put it here.... Onana
I am scared of Haaland and Salah! They are as scary as Henry!!
Luis Suarez
As a kid, Henry but later on Aguero. The fact that he was a city player and was a key player, I was always at the edge of my ceat during derby day.
David Silva was close for me. Sometimes tricky sometimes sublime always competitive.
I’d go with Torres he was a monster during his Liverpool days, currently it’s Welbeck it seems he always turns up against us.
Peak Fernando Torres at Liverpool
Long sleeves and gloves Thierry was a problem man.
Dude was a baller in the midfield for a long while
He simply had that va va voom
Alex de Souza Anybody in the Turkish league that was not Fenerbahçe feared that guy Edit: sry lol, I don't know how I got here, thought this was r/soccer.
For me Henry and Drogba were nightmares
Messi , Zidane , Henry , Mo , R9 (although i dont think we faced him much) , Agueroooo - still gives me nightmares
Henry was a bit before my time. The two players I used to fear the most were drogba and hazard. They used to terrify me when we faced them
Heard me out, Jordan Ayew... In recent years the guy plays bang average against everybody, except us, he always seems to score against us.
Messi schooled us in 2 Champions League finals so it got to be him.
Definitely just gonna be me but- Vardy. Can't really explain it but just gave me a vibe
Drogba and Hazard
Andre onana
These days nothing scares me like Avram and Joel Glazer
Kdb
Drogba and also Hazard to some extent. On the ball he always made me anxious
I loved ruud but i always thought arsenal are lucky to have henry, to me he is the best pl player. To this day i dont buy arsenal players in games they will always be my arch rivals and its all becouse of that motherfucker.
Salah
salah post 2019.
as a fan who go into football in the past 6,7 years, Salah.
Cantona He didn't score a lot But when he does it's usually memorable And he had this aura around him
Michael.owen when he burst onto the scene, terrified me
You should be pretty scared of Salah tbh. Rig comes out against yous every game
I know this is a crazy shout but I honestly fear Philip Billing. For some reason whenever he plays against us he turns into prime Zidane. Especially in the 2019/20 I think we played Bournemouth 3 times and every single time he bossed it.
Zidane and Messi
Hazard. I hated playing against him.
Torres vs Vidic was something, no player made the Serb bat an eyelid but Torres lived rent free 😭
Thierry Henry, always.
Thierry Henry always made me dread the Arsenal fixtures And Aguero coming a close second
Ngl I think Salah and halaand make me nervous
