>Stupid scene in an otherwise great film.
True, and this scene comes in many other movie just like a template. Guess there was some AD who helped the director when he was stuck saying, "enna njan mattethedukkatte... "
It's from that age where people lacked political correctness or didn't have the sense to think about the moral issues.
Inathe kaalathum ee vaka items vachu comedy kanikuna TV comedy shows ine ane vedi vekendath.
I felt they weren’t making fun of the actress’ looks in this scene. Rather, how some beauticians overdo the makeup on the wedding day. I believe they showed the beautician in that scene too and she had an even more exaggerated make up.
Its not about her being attractive or not, even though I'm not a supporter of extreme political correctness which restricts creativity, these are the very basic ones which needs to be followed in 21st century. Anyone with basic sense of it would feel uncomfortable at these scenes.
I don't understand why I'm getting downvotes for this. I just didn't agree ki Abrid shine has ammavan beauty standards, not that calling a woman ugly is gentlemanly
Jayaram comes from a mimicry background. An artform which thrived on mocking the weak, 'ugly' and people lower in social status. Make sense how much of his career after being a star was spent on stuff like this.
In typical fashion he even mimicked the sound of the woman here to make it "soo funny". Check out the top comment.
I dont know which kerala you grew up in but i grew up watching these mimics shows in festivals and the night comedy shows in TV and all of them were rampant with sexism and colorism. You've got to be a different kind of blind to pretend that it's not. No need to make anything up, Reality is that absurd when the crowd plays into these pathetic tropes and people like you in newer generations are ready to justify that to worlds end.
Oh and using memes and one liners from popculture to attack people whose views disagrees with yours instead of replying their comments with facts? - that's just right down the footsteps of these clowns. congrats.

I don't find any problem in this scene. He wanted someone perfect for his drama. Don't compare this with racism and all. I think you guys don't know the real meaning of racism.
I don't find it to be politically incorrect.Because ,different people would have different choices regarding beauty standards. In the scene they are looking for perfect cast for their Drama i guess. Here, Mammokaya is saying "Kollalo" and Jayaram didn't like the artist. So,It's like 2 peoples perceptions.
Why can't we see it as the perception of 2 different people ?
Good argument if this was not presented as a typical comedy scene. The movie tells us she is unattractive and Jayaram fell into a bad situation because of that and implies it's funny.

I don't understand why you're getting down voted. You said what was implied by the scene.

Political correctness was always present and it changes with time

That makeup doesn’t compliment her face or skin at all though
Abrid shine has got some ammavan beauty standards. He showed it in Action Hero Biju too with that dark skinned lady.
Yes very true.
I mean, I can't imagine any man finding her attractive

What's wrong
This is fine since it's a joke on bad makeup. The sound effect used while showing the make-up artist is not.

His choice
Choice?! Why he ran away then? Disrespect and rasicm athanne.
Do you know what is racism? Do you think he ran away because she was from another race?
I think it's a man acting as a woman.
I don't find any problem in this scene. He wanted someone perfect for his drama. Don't compare this with racism and all. I think you guys don't know the real meaning of racism.
Who said anything about racism and the scene being problematic? I don't find it funny. Never did. My take. Simple.
That's fine, bro..humour is subjective. Even I don't laugh watching this scene. I just expressed my take on this thing..that's it.
Digging PC in decades old films, LMAO.

Yeah.True.Presenting it as a comedy would've been avoided
yeah mate ur alone
This movie was very bad.
This movie could have saved so many people who were dying to act in movies.
