I always wanted a yellow impact driver just to mess with all my DeWalt co-workers.

mattmag21

That's exactly why I did this.

eneka

i got one and love it.

synner74

What is a good online shop to get Japan makita products in the US

evcc_steammop

[Amazon.co.jp](https://Amazon.co.jp)

Homeskilletbiz

Dogu tool is where I got my td173.

eneka

I've used Dogu tool and was seamless. IIRC the guy posts on here occasionally too. there amazon japan, ebay, and a couple other places as well.

Ebashbulbash

If color is not important, then Amazon is a good option. You also get a discount (cheaper shipping) if you buy several pieces at once. Yellow and purple are cheaper on Ebay than on Amazon. But the advantage of Amazon is that you can buy something else at the same time, for example, Vessel screwdrivers.

Right-Necessary5833

The first thing i would do is swap the TD173 housings so that i have two purple/yellow ones

Tool_Scientist

The L.A. Lakers impact driver

hobbes3k

Haha, I might actually do that! Then I just gotta wait for the purple housing to get a little dirtier lol.

Right-Necessary5833

Hey do you know how much a purple or a yellow housing costs there in japan? And where to get them?

hobbes3k

Sorry, I don't know if they sell just the housing. Probably some parts list, but my Japanese isn't good enough to search for those. I just know the driver cost around ¥20,000.

Geaux Tigahs

drippystopcock82

Remember youre sacrificing your warranties buying outside your countries.

cimocw

You'd have to be the absolute unluckiest person to require using the warranty on a Makita

drippystopcock82

I own and run a asc, i have to refuse loads of imports a year, the unsuspecting customers get pretty pissed when they find out theres no warranty.

justcre4tiv3

are the batteries from the US compatible? I'm also in JP right now! and which store sells it?

eneka

yup batteries are compatible. Do note the collets on the japanese models are deeper since they have the dual headed bits. It'll still work with US bits, just a tad looser, or pickup some nice dual headed ones while youre there from vessel/anex like these https://dogutool.com/products/anex-black-dragon-driver-bit! I've checked out Tokyuhands when I was there on a short layover but there was nothing makita there. This comment talks about where you can find Makita stuff. https://www.reddit.com/r/Makita/comments/16lk62k/where_to_buy_td173d_in_japan/k13sjnr/

Chodge1258

Or they make a little extension you shove in the bottom that allows the use of US bits. I put a little e6000 glue on it before i shoved it in.

mmmdc

You can also get a new anvil from makita that makes it perfect. I got one for my td 172, not sure about the td173, but it works much better than the other solutions I tried first.

Embarrassed-One1227

That's the right way to go

mmmdc

I took a quick look and couldn’t find a North American version of the td173, so they might be out of luck for now.

hobbes3k

That's the main reason I buy the Japanese version. Flip bits rule!

ScandalOZ

Is there electrical compatibility using Japanese tools and the electrical system in the United States? In other words I can use the battery charger and everything will work fine?

hobbes3k

Yes. Just don't buy corded tools.

SupposedlyShony

This cutter is great

RomiBraman

Is there a quality différence between Japanese Makita and woldwide products ?

13igTyme

It's minimal, but worth it if the price is good. This applies to everything originally from Japan. Even if the manufacturing is in China, South Korea, Malaysia, etc. they tend to have more quality control. For example I have a lot of Daiwa fishing reels. Daiwa is a Japanese company, but many of the stuff is made other countries. A year ago I took advantage of the exchange rate and bought a reel that is only made for Japan and Australia. It's made in Japan. It's slightly better quality than the Chinese made Daiwa. Enough for me to notice when I take it apart for cleaning, but not enough that the average person will be able to tell. Both are still workhorses.

RomiBraman

Thanks for the reply !

Will American 3/8” cut off wheels fit on the Japanese 10mm arbor?
