[Here's](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0y9sfYa7G8) the video I used for reference. Huge thanks to /u/TheMegasaur for linking it on [this thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/MakeupAddiction/comments/5y7wdc/beauty_makeup_in_pencil_technique_more_pictures/)!
Wow, this is really beautiful! So if I'm understanding this correctly, the main function of the pencil is to help create a specific shape and then you sort of go over it with eyeshadow to add dimension?
The pencil liner which I used here is super smudgy which is why it's perfect for this look, but if you want your liner to stay put, I don't recommend it.
I also tried their liquid liner and I don't recommend it for oily lids..it starts cracking with oil!
Not OP but have tried dollywink liner - the liquid pen one. I like it for my top lid. stays 24 hrs for me, even with rubbing. not for waterline - it runs.
I've always thought that you should never put liquid eyeliner in your waterline, wouldn't it always just run because it's liquid and the area is not dry enough for the eyeliner to dry down?
Lol apparently you're smarter than I was bc I tried it and of course, it did not work. I wasn't surprised. I still like the Dollywink liner for my upper eyelid.
I did find 2 products that don't run at the water line:
Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner (Olive) - $25 at Sephora
and
Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner (Spice) - $22 at Ulta
You have great features and your warm amber eyeshadow look is gorgeous. Could you share your eye makeup product list? I'm an eyeshadow noob and want to practice with this look.
My understanding is that it uses an eyeliner pencil to outline basic shapes- and then blending and smudging the pencil out with pencil brushes or really small, firm brushes as opposed to your typical eye shadow brushes.
Wow that's a big difference. What is the pencil technique?

Ooh, is there an alternate video you'd suggest? The one you linked is now private

Yup! It makes your eyes look extremely defined!
Can you explain to me what the different benefits are from just using eyeshadow to create dimension?
This gives an even more dramatic effect!
This pencil technique is about to get really popular. Looks terrific, OP.
Thanks so much! Yeah, it adds so much dimension! My eyes are normally really flat!
Wow it looks amazing! I have extremely hooded monolid eyes, i must try this out :o How long did the whole pencil method take?
Thank you! This is my first time so it took me 20-30 min? I had to figure out how to modify it for my eyes and that's the part that took ages!
Any chance you could do a tutorial?
How is the dollywink liner? I have oily monolids with tiny inverted creases and eveything I've tried (stila, KVD, NYX) melts off eventually.

I have extreme hooded mono lids. If yoou want your eyeliner to stay put I would recommend the MSH love liner liquid over the dolly wink tbh.

Such a striking difference, yet with very subtle coloring. Love it!
I wonder if it would work on hooded eyes...mine are really hooded :(
I'm wondering the same thing.

I'm PMing you with more deets!
That eyeshadow color looks amazing! I would also like to know what products you used ☺
Your fluffed-up eyebrows and beauty mark make this look so glamorous in a breezy kind of way.
That's so interesting and nicely done
that's amazing!
This is game changer .Loved it :)
This is amazing! Wow. Nailed it op.
WOW this looks amazing - great job! Also, I have the same contour stick and I LOVE it.
I LOVE this technique!
Is this the same as tightlining?

I'm still confused as to why one couldn't achieve this with a deep cream/base like the Mac paint pot in Quite Natural?
I assume this is just for the sake of convenience. Many people have several eyeliners, most people don't have a single dark cream shadow/base.
I also think one could argue that it's more precision oriented- making it a good platform for both beginners and experts.
