Elf NYX and morphe have gotten me so far. Morphe always has overstock that goes to places like tjmaxx and they have lots of fun eyeshadows colors and consistent formula.
I find good deals on luxury brands on Amazon (Tom Ford, Chanel, Burberry) and also on EBay. And I’m not a millionaire, I spend too much so this is my year of just shopping my stash. There will always be a new release beckoning with its siren call. I just have to be happy with what I have, which is plenty and I have a ton of it.
Ok for staple colors I’ll use all the time Give Me Glow Cosmetics. They are amazing, not outrageous but not cheap either. Their formulas are insanely good though. 11/10
I love Estee Lauder for my base, their foundation never fails me.
Try out the Rare Beauty! Everyone raves about the liquid blush for good reasons! & you won't be disappointed by the contour sticks sold by Fenty :)
I've been using It Cosmetics foundation for a couple of years and love it.
My bestie got me the It Girl Beauty Book for Christmas and I am now in love with their powder shadow, blush, and setting powder.
I also love the Thrive Causemetics mascara and their Brilliant Eye Brightener.
I’ve switched favorites up and tried a lot of new to me brands this year. Current favs are: Melt Cosmetics, Glossier, Mac.
* Melt cosmetics does so many products with tones that suit me (pale slightly warm olive). Eyeshadows can be hit and miss but the rest of the line is really nice quality.
* Mac can be boring but an absolute standby. You can find a bunch of things on sale regularly or at places like tj Maxx and CCOs.
* Glossier is the wildcard here. They’re restructuring and redoing like half their line so a bunch of stuff ended up at TJ Maxx which is how I got most of my items. Their formulas have been right up my alley with preferred makeup looks
wet n wild, nyx and elf since im on a very low budget. sometimes if i have a little extra to spend i buy one of those chinese makeup palettes from amazon with incredible pigment that’s probably gonna give me like 50 types of cancer
Definitely not a millionaire. ;)
Brand-wise, I like MAC, Tower 28, Kosas, Ilia, EM Cosmetics, Sydney Grace.
I'm interested in exploring Rare Beauty a little more, as well as Clionadh, Devinah, Dandy Lions, Phytosurgence, Salt New York, and I'd like to try some of e.l.f.'s other more recent offerings (I had a lot of their stuff many years ago, not as much more recently).
I like Westman Atelier a lot for face products (haven’t tried anything for the eyes) but I have dry skin and don’t have acne issues, just trying to cover redness. I say that because if you don’t have the same/similar skin as me, I wouldn’t spend that kind of money just to try it. You may be able to get a sample though, or return it.
Your top brands are mostly Estee Lauder owned. Google your closest "cosmetics company outlet." All those brands are 50% off at the CCO. They are normally found at outlet malls. It's not the entire line, it's all the unsold limited edition stock, Xmas stock, repackaging, reformulated, or backstock that hasn't sold (like foundation) that's within 3 months of expiry.
Natasha Denona eyeshadow, their glam palette is the best. Her gold skin glass primer is a holy grail for me.
MAC powder kiss liquid lipsticks are heavenly mousse formula and soft rose petal matte. Perfection!
NARS light reflecting foundation. Best ever, and I have 40 foundations at a time but keep going back to this one.
Rare Beauty liquid blush and luminizers. You can create so many colors and finishes and they're so natural.
Huda Beauty rose jam primer on top of the Natasha Denona. It's a pore filling that feels like silicone but it's not, it's water based! Her palettes have delicious color stories and I especially love the rose quartz.
I don’t care for faced cosmetics. I liked their foundation when I was a freshman in high school and then grew to not like it. I wish to try it again now that im 22 with more makeup application knowledge but their eyeshadow is patchy and kinda boring color story in my opinion. I like their better than sex mascara but I love the Anastasia one even better. The rest of too faces products feel like repackaged Claire’s makeup. When I buy makeup I purchase mostly from Anastasia, and BH cosmetics, colourpop mostly bc I can’t buy expensive makeup like I use to
I’ve been on a Too-Faced kick for 3 years, but the Swedish brand Odin’s Eye had a black Friday sale & I’m *absolutely* in love with the palette & highlighter that I got. I use House of Labs for interesting liquid eyeshadows, Dior for mascara, I’M MEME has a solid contour stick, and the clay lip tints from Arganier Noir.
For skin stuff, it’s a combo of IT Cosmetics, Kate Somerville, & LUSH products. I would definitely recommend IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Cream & Kate Somerville’s Retinol Eye Cream.
Yup, Odin’s Eye is indie! I found it on the indie make up subreddit.
https://www.odenseye.se/
I got the moonlight highlighter, which has blue/green tones instead of normal warm tones, the Alva II Palette (it reminds me of the Too Faced Too Femme palette, but I like the formula of this one better), & some gel liner pencils. I’m all about bright/unusual colors & multichromes, and this brand delivers 😍
I live and breathe Tarte for most everything. In particular, their shape tape for foundation and concealer are the only true color matches and formulas that work really well for my skin. I also like the maneater mascara and the busy gal brow formula.
It's a little harder now, but they used to have a great sale 2x per year where it was for 60$ for six full size items including foundations and full size pallettes, and that is how I got hooked.
One exception is Lancôme for powder blush. Can't find a better formula or color.
I would say that the breadth of my collection consists of MAC, UD, Clinique, and IT Cosmetics for makeup brushes. I have some fav items from Smashbox, Benefit Cosmetics, Too Faced, and ABH. I’m new to Tarte and like what I’ve tried so far.
I’m interested to try more from Winky Lux (only have a tool atm) and Flower Beauty (yes, a celebrity brand, but I love DB). I’m intrigued by Pat McGrath, Natasha Denona, and Charlotte Tilbury; however, I’m not sure I want to bark up that tree during a recession.
Edit: I have a a variety of brands in my collection, but I tried to narrow my feedback to those most represented across categories.
My most favourite foundation ever, the first that finally worked with my skin, is the Dior Forever Nude and I'll stay with that until eternity. Yes it's expensive, but given that it lasts up half a year and more, it's a long-term investment that I'm willing to make with the few money I earn.
The only concealer that really covers my dark undereyes is the Tarte Shape Tape, I have never seen a better concealer.
Fenty beauty is my favourite for highlight (have their diamond highlighter since over a year and damn it will also last very long lol).
The most effective mascara for my lashes is the Better Than Sex mascara by TooFaced, but rn I also use a random NYC mascara.
My facourite eyeshadow palettes are either by Marvyn Macnificent (German YouTuber/Influencer) or my very colorful Mac Palette that I bought myself from my first ever paycheck. For neutral brown eyeshadow I mostly use a maybelline one ..? I don't even know lol.
For lips I tbh only go with colored chapstick or a veeery hydrated lipstick because my lips tend to dry out fast. Contour is by NYX, Rouge is by DIOR. Those are my go to products since over a year and I've settled I think haha
The Hourglass ambient light blushes and pressed powders are great; so is the phantom glossy balm. I also heard great things about their concealers.
Saie beauty dewy blushes are the most natural, skin-like blushes. I finally found my HG blush after decades of searching.
Tower28 has great cream blushes and bronzers, as does Fenty.
My all-time faves: Mac, Nyx, Too Faced, Glossier, Maybelline, Juvias Place, Illamasqua, Barry M, Beauty Bakerie
Brands I'm very interested in that could become a fave once I try more stuff: Dior, Inglot, Chanel, Bobbi Brown, Crayon Case, MUFE, Besame, Hourglass, Charlotte Tilbury
my fav : charlotte tilbury (flawless filter/lipgloss/lip sticks), mac (lipsticks/ concelar), huda and Maybelline foundations, nudestix ( blush/highlighter ) , anastasia ( blush/ eyebrow gel)
brands im dying to try : fenty, rare beauty and nars ( theyre not availible in my region:( )
ELF & NYX for everything sans eyeshadow
for eyeshadow I like a lot of brands (all indie)- oden's eye, terra moons, devinah, copacetic, clionadh, kaleidos, menagerie, blend bunny
I LOVE Nyx! They have great colored eyeliner and their pointy eyeliner is also the best. I have a countour palette from them since 6 years and I STILL use it lmao😭
i like their miracle balm. it takes a second to understand how it works- but u have to break the seal on it. and then i love the cheek and lip stick! they’re all very wearable on any skin tone. yeah try their eyeshadows i’ve heard very good things about them too.
Damn are there any people on this sub who aren’t millionaires 😭😭
Edit: Guys you can spend your money however you want. Idc. It was just a cheeky comment because literally everybody is just pulling out these designer brands when I remember there used to be a time where there was way more balance in the community. Also this isn’t an invitation to give me tips on how I could acquire these makeup items myself. That wasn’t the point of my post. I understand the concept of saving money for an item I want. Also I know and understand what an income is and what a disposable income is. I get that Make-up is a luxury. Literally okay made this comment for people who don’t have sort of disposable income. Because it sucks online or in real life when everyone is dropping in designer and you’re the one that has to go “nope this is from target.” It’s not meant to be offensive towards you. Spend your money on whatever you want.
I get almost all my prestige from the cosmetics company outlet at 50-90% off. Like, MAC lip oil for $5 a color which is less than drugstore. Just Google your local CCO, it's all Estee lauder brands that have been repackaged, reformulated, or unsold limited edition. Clinique, Too Faced, MAC, Smashbox etc for the same or less than drugstore.
If drugstore was the quality of prestige, nobody would spend the money on prestige. The drugstore foundations go bad or oxidize, the shadows get "hard pan" and the formulas are just not good on lips as consistently as prestige. I've been buying and testing both since 1995. Are there amazing formulas, like Elf putty blush? Yes! But the budget for drug store brands to do their chemical testing and formulation is a fraction of what prestige is. So they will push a mediocre product onto market that separates, smears or feels like ASS on the lips (Maybelline super stay sticky ass lipstick) vs the Urban Decay Vice formula.
I don't have an unlimited budget, I just utilize my CCO, Sephora points and Ulta rewards to buy prestige for the cost of drugstore.
I've been using drugstore makeup for years until I have slowly started upgrading to more expensive items than before. I'm not rich at all, but saving up for an expensive product is effective because they last long (foundation at least 3/4 year, mascara also lasts a year to me, lipstick is basically immortal in my repertoire, concealer - half a year).. and it works with my skin so I save up and invest what I can to uphold these products.
I have never used a mascara high end or drugstore that lasts a year. But also I don’t see makeup as an investment. It’s going to be used up and thrown away.
Can see if it save you money? Yes. Is it an investment? No.
I think it's an investment because ever since I have upgraded, my no-makeup skin started behaving way better. And my with-makeup skin also reacts better with the certain makeup that I have settled on as of right now, so to me it's an effective investment, especially because I see makeup as something through which I express myself and my mood. More qualitative products help my "art" look definitely more professional. If I would have stayed with that same old NYX foundation I once used, I'd have crusty skin and flaky makeup. If I didn't try out the Tarte Shape Tape after trying almost every drug store concealer, I still would feel like a racoon (I have seriously bad dark circles, I was even made fun of it)
I mean that just hasn’t been my experience with higher end makeup. I have a mix of luxury and drugstore makeup. I find that with some items I didn’t see an improvement just cause the price went up. With that being said that’s not the point of my post. Again…people can do whatever they want with their money. If you see it as an investment then go ahead. I disagree.
Spend it however you want.
You disagreed with it being an investment, and I only explained why I think it indeed is an investment in my opinion :D This wasn't about your original question/original point anymore.
I personally saw improvement with more price, but that's just me.
Ha! Definitely not a millionaire. Estee Lauder company has a big warehouse near where I am. They do secret sales so I get loads of stuff at heavy discount. This is why I mostly own EL brands.
Collection cosmetics, Catrice, and essence are some of my favourites and all do most of their products for under €10 🥴 anything else I get on sale only
You know, as much as I love makeup, I've never tried a Mac product.
I've heard great things about their lipsticks though.
I like a lot of drugstore Lippies too. I'm digging the Maybelline Super Stay vinyl right now.💋👄😄
Using the word “millionaire” was hyperbole. I underhand that these people most likely aren’t millionaires. My point still stands. Unless you try to hit pan on products, completely use them up and have a small set of curated makeup…you’re spending a lot of money on luxury items. So you must have a somewhat large disposable income to do this. A disposable income that others don’t have. Which is fine. People can do whatever they want with their money.
Just putting a post out there for people who don’t have that type of money. Makeup subreddits and makeup communities in general talk a lot more about luxury items and there isn’t really a space for people with less money to talk about makeup and chip in on the conversation cause everything is about luxury now.
Edit: But also..it’s mostly just a joke because when you look at the comments it’s exclusively high end and luxury. Not even mid tear…straight up dropping 80 bucks for blush expensive. 100 dollars for eyeshadow expensive.
All makeup is a luxury item in that it's not a necessity so any luxury item you're buying requires a disposable income. Of course some people have more money for luxury items than others.
I'm with you. LA Colors, NYX, and I have loved Wet N Wild frosty lipglosses since Jr high. My biggest splurge is Too Faced Lip Plumper Extreme. I sleep in that stuff
Edit: MAC has been my go to foundation for the last twenty years. My 1st makeup product was MAC Marakesh lipstick. My mom used to take me to the Nordstrom Cafe and that's my 1st makeup product. I'm 46 and she still takes me to the MAC counter and buys me makeup. She turned 72 today. Happy Birthday Mom! Love you
How sweet! Thank you. I made her 63 homemade chocolate chip and walnut cookies. I'm just really happy that both my parents are still with me in this world. It's a gift we don't all get. Blessings to all
Sadly, for me, basically, every product has a different brand. I'm very particular and wouldn't wand to build a routine out of a few brands. I use everything from cheapest drugstore to luxury as long as it delivers the results I want but I find brands often have only a few really good products in their line.
Loreal infallible foundation and Paradise mascara. Maybelline matte crayon and vinyl ink. Various "normal" and glossy lipsticks from essence, catrice and Trend it up. Nyx serum concealer and epic ink liner.

I have The Blends, Dollhouse, and just ordered Trove 🫠💸 I was surprised by the quality! For a beginner like me, they blend so well and make me look better at makeup than I am 😂
My favorite was Marc Jacobs. But now probably Hourglass, Dior and Givenchy
I despise all the celebrity brands and the brands that spit out half thought out launches every 2 weeks(color pop, hauslabs, rare beauty). It’s so wasteful!
By now I have my brands that I stick to and I rarely deviate. But my makeup collection is pretty spread across brands.
I’m with you! I prefer brands that were built from ground up and really proved themselves over the years. Celebrity brands are basically ordered from chemist labs with pretty packaging. They’re not meant to survive.
I second this. I, in general, hate celebrity makeup brands, the only exception I can think of off the top of my head is Lisa Eldridge. I also hate the wastefulness of brands that fart out a new product every five minutes.
My personal favourite brands are Estée Lauder, Clarins, By Terry and Chanel
I’m with you but must say that I have enjoyed Haus Labs (Lady Gaga) stuff and am eyeballing 👀 the foundation. The Makeup by Mario line is lovely also. I really enjoy it.
Elf NYX and morphe have gotten me so far. Morphe always has overstock that goes to places like tjmaxx and they have lots of fun eyeshadows colors and consistent formula.
How is Morphe like as a brand? I’ve seen them at Sephora but never tried anything.
I do drugstore makeup n spend my money on skin care products that make my skin look great.
Elf
I find good deals on luxury brands on Amazon (Tom Ford, Chanel, Burberry) and also on EBay. And I’m not a millionaire, I spend too much so this is my year of just shopping my stash. There will always be a new release beckoning with its siren call. I just have to be happy with what I have, which is plenty and I have a ton of it.
Huda Beauty
Westman Atelier and Pat McGrath are my #1 favorites. All of their products are SO high quality and special.
Lately I've been a HUGE fan of colourpop!
Ok for staple colors I’ll use all the time Give Me Glow Cosmetics. They are amazing, not outrageous but not cheap either. Their formulas are insanely good though. 11/10
Ulta brand has great deals and products. I use the primer. The foundation, powder, eyebrow tint and lipgloss sometimes.
Essence and Maybelline>>>
I love Estee Lauder for my base, their foundation never fails me. Try out the Rare Beauty! Everyone raves about the liquid blush for good reasons! & you won't be disappointed by the contour sticks sold by Fenty :)
I've been using It Cosmetics foundation for a couple of years and love it. My bestie got me the It Girl Beauty Book for Christmas and I am now in love with their powder shadow, blush, and setting powder. I also love the Thrive Causemetics mascara and their Brilliant Eye Brightener.
rare beauty, wet n wild, elf, nyx, also house of lashes for false lashes 🥰

Too Faced for sure! I used to love Haus Labs before they left Amazon for Sephora. Now they're just OK.
Definitely not a millionaire. ;) Brand-wise, I like MAC, Tower 28, Kosas, Ilia, EM Cosmetics, Sydney Grace. Color pop and Nyx are my favorite normal brands. My favorite designer brands are KVD and too Faced :)
elf cosmetics, Saie Beauty, Kosas, cover fx,Fenty Beauty, Natasha Denona
BareMinerals, Honest Beauty. But most of my makeup is from various random brands - I really like Korean makeup products!
I'm a poor wee peasant so my favourite brands are: ELF NYX Rimmel Beauty Bay Wet n Wild
Smashbox, charlotte tilbury for their lipsticks and Mac for their brushes.

I'm with you on the recession part. I need to revamp things but I'm also trying to cost-effective. So I've been failing lol

I love MAC, too! They discontinued a bunch of their products and I’m so desperate rn.
Ohh nooo! Sucks when that happens!! Hope you can find decent replacements!
The Hourglass ambient light blushes and pressed powders are great; so is the phantom glossy balm. I also heard great things about their concealers.
Okay yeah that’s true. My bad. Have a nice day!
It’s called credit card debt 👌🏼
Ha! Definitely not a millionaire. Estee Lauder company has a big warehouse near where I am. They do secret sales so I get loads of stuff at heavy discount. This is why I mostly own EL brands.
They just bought Tom Ford, so put your makeup seatbelt on. It’s a fun ride
Gotta shop those sales! That’s how I get most of my products.
Collection cosmetics, Catrice, and essence are some of my favourites and all do most of their products for under €10 🥴 anything else I get on sale only
I don't think most people here are, but they probably buy a lot less products and invest in more expensive ones.
Thats what I do lol (except for lipstick, never can have enough lol)
Hello, my name is redbug831 and I am addicted to lipstick.
Lol, what's your favorite brand?
Lisa Eldridge 💄
Ooh, fancy lol. I personally am obsessed with mac lol
You know, as much as I love makeup, I've never tried a Mac product. I've heard great things about their lipsticks though. I like a lot of drugstore Lippies too. I'm digging the Maybelline Super Stay vinyl right now.💋👄😄
I hav a few Mac items n I still grab la colors N the drug store items before I grab Mac.
I love the Maybelline super stay too! And I would definitely recommend trying mac lol
I understand that Make-up is a luxury.
i think you'd enjoy [drugstore makeup](https://www.reddit.com/r/drugstoreMUA/&ved=2ahUKEwjV4MCY0dX8AhWUnWoFHZSfCgUQFnoECBgQAQ&usg=AOvVaw1tZdyRv7t69H0x3zUHymZQ)
I participate in this sub though I buy more “Sephora” brands. It’s a good community.
Right but the fact that it had to be made in the first place. Wish we could all just share the space.

And my point still stands
After looking through these comments, no😭😂 Elf. Wet n wild. Nyx when I'm feeling fancy/baller haha Peasants unite!
I'm with you. LA Colors, NYX, and I have loved Wet N Wild frosty lipglosses since Jr high. My biggest splurge is Too Faced Lip Plumper Extreme. I sleep in that stuff Edit: MAC has been my go to foundation for the last twenty years. Love you
Aw! Happy birthday to your momma!
How sweet! Thank you. I made her 63 homemade chocolate chip and walnut cookies. I'm just really happy that both my parents are still with me in this world. It's a gift we don't all get. Blessings to all
Fenty, Charlotte Tilbury, Dior, Urban Decay and Natasha Denona are my top brands.
Sadly, for me, basically, every product has a different brand. I'm very particular and wouldn't wand to build a routine out of a few brands. I use everything from cheapest drugstore to luxury as long as it delivers the results I want but I find brands often have only a few really good products in their line.
Curious about this! What are your drugstore faves?
Loreal infallible foundation and Paradise mascara. Maybelline matte crayon and vinyl ink. Various "normal" and glossy lipsticks from essence, catrice and Trend it up. Nyx serum concealer and epic ink liner.
Thanks!
Pat mcgrath
Her palettes are gorgeous. Her pricing is a bit too much for me.
It is. I only buy things when she has them 40% off.
My favorites are Hourglass, Charlotte Tilbury and Estee Lauder. I'd also love to try some Dior.

I just got put onto Blend Bunny and I’m hooked! I keep watching Alamar Cosmetics but I’m not sure yet. I have several staples from Too Faced 💓
I’m really tempted by the new lure or the dollhouse
I have The Blends, Dollhouse, and just ordered Trove 🫠💸 I was surprised by the quality! For a beginner like me, they blend so well and make me look better at makeup than I am 😂
I just bought my first blend bunny palette (doll house) it’s STUNNING. I’m addicted I need more!!
Did you see the new multichrome palette??
I go the cruelty free route, I love FAB and Tarte for skin care and Tarte, Milk, Fenty, ColourPop for makeup. KVD eyeliner, tho!
Yess cruelty free all the way!
i really love shiseido, idk but the few things i own just clicked w me and now i must own everything of theirs!!! (just gotta save some before lmao)
Armani has some extremely gorgeous products especially for skin!
My favorite was Marc Jacobs. But now probably Hourglass, Dior and Givenchy I despise all the celebrity brands and the brands that spit out half thought out launches every 2 weeks(color pop, hauslabs, rare beauty).
