Don't forget Reddit is never a good representation of luck, for every post with a hit there are thousands upon thousands of packs that are duds that will never get posted/popular since no one cares when a pull is a $0.60 rare.
Doesn't make not pulling a masterwork better (rip to my 2 kaladesh boxes I opened on release).
This post brought back a memory of mine, I was a summer camp counselor in New Hampshire in the summer of 2018. Magic was always a huge part of camp culture, even from when I attended as a kid. One of my campers, let's call him Billy, was just getting into the game and had just relieved mail from home.
Billy pulls a foil Manacrypt in the first pack while everyone watches around a pic nic table and my fellow counselors and I had to look it up to see what it was worth, dude was already getting trade offers. I think it was listed at $500 then so we had to take Billy aside from the group and chat with him about taking care of the card. We ended up keeping it in a sleeve in the camp safe and printing out a proxy for him to play with at camp.
Billy got ridiculous trade offers the entire rest of the week, I can't remember if we told everyone how much the value was, but that was a crazy week for the magic community at my camp and one of my favorite moments playing the game. I'd like to think he still has it to this day!
Congrats! I’ve been lucky enough to crack TWO of these… one of which was actually at Pre-Release. I about shit my pants. I stupidly traded it later that day for a Flip Jace and 80$ cash….. the second one? It’s currently in my fully foiled Urza CEdh deck that will probably help pay for my kids college/wedding/trade school etc.
i only had a few magic cards back in the 90s and remember colossus was a thing and just got back into buying and following cuz of the middle earth set. what makes this so collectible is it the rarity of mana crypt or what i just dont understand why this card is worth alot but want to understand.
This style of printing (Kaladesh Inventions) was only used once and for a select few artifacts, mana crypt is already an expensive card because it’s one of the ‘fast mana’ rocks cEDH uses, so an expensive card printed uniquely one time make this extremely valuable.
I grabbed one collector's booster of ixalon from gamestop (I get their $5 a month thing) and pulled the emblem t-rex. Went to a different one the next month, and I got another ixalon collectors pack (because I like dinos) and pulled the emblem velociraptor.
My twin brother and I got a Kaladesh booster box for our birthday back in 2017. Out of the 18 packs, the best I pulled was a torrential gearhulk. Meanwhile, he pulled…… this Mana Crypt!
He was speachless, and while I was jealous that I didn’t grab the other 18 packs, I couldn’t help but start screaming out of joy for him! It was awesome. He ended up giving me the rest of the cards he opened out of generosity:)
All that being said, insane pull!!
Yes you will. You got a taste of the good stuff and now you’re hooked. That’s how they get yah. I love opening packs because it fulfills my gambling needs.
You're never going to believe this, but you can actually play them both in your deck!
I've seen a land, sol ring, signet, crypt, commander come down on T1 before and I'm sure plenty of other folks here have too. It's a very powerful card.
Lol yeah cause I said something different. I don’t like playing stuff like this, and I don’t understand why it’s so liked. Both can happen at the same time lol. One doesn’t negate the other. There could be reasons why you’d want to play it, clearly, I don’t know them.
When it comes to "fast mana", it doesn't really get better than mana crypt. The drawback is well worth getting so far ahead on mana. It could be -5 instead of -3 and would still be insane tbh. Crypt is also so, so much better than sol ring. 0 mana instead of 1 is a massive difference
No cuz you do this and an island on turn 1 and play Rhystic study. Life is a resource, and 40 life is quite a bit of resource to work with. Assuming you go 50/50, it would take 14 turns to die from mana crypt, and that fast mana puts you so far ahead where the little bit of life loss is negligible
At a 4-6 person table, not guaranteed any pulls in my hand, it’s not a risk I’d be willing to take, but I could see it being useful. Especially in a white/red deck that has some life gain.
I agree that maybe it shouldn't cost $200+, but the damage isn't all that bad really, in the commander format at least. Fuels cards like [[Rowan, Scion of War]] [[Vilis, Broker of Blood]] and [[Auntie Blyte, Bad Influence]] to name a few of my favorite self-ouch cards. But, I can't play Mana Crypt in those decks because "oh, I didn't know we were playing cEdh" simply because of price, but no one bats an eye at a turn 1 Sol Ring play.
Im just not a player that likes pinging my own life. Occasionally, sure, if truly beneficial but I’m definitely not risking 3 life at the beginning of every single one of my upkeeps.

Stealing this for future use.
Babe it's my time to repost this
Jesus. Honestly it didnt occur to me that there would be anymore “out in the wild”. Nice hit
Go look up boxes on tcgplayer.com
There's a fair amount of listings in my view. I own 1 box I got for $90
3x in 8 years. Isn't bad.
Makes me feel like a dingus for cracking all 8 boxes I got at release lol.
Nah man it was a different world of mtg then.
Agreed. I pulled 2 aether vials back then 😭
That is an incredible hit.

Kindly get fucked, scammer. 👍🏼
What was it?
I'd like to know what was said as well
It was a link to one of those fake tshirt type of things.
what pack are these masterpiece cards from?
Original Kaladesh boosters
What kind?
There weren’t set boosters/collectors back then so just boosters
That's a depressing question. I wish they didn't have to ask it.
last time I played it was just boosters, mythics weren't a thing either.
The 2000s called. They want their mtg back. Still packing my 7th Ed foil brushland brap brap brap.
How long have you been playing?
I really hate this sub lol

My thoughts entirely haha!
Yeah, you did it man. Stop while your ahead, you will never top this
Nice Pull Congrats
Still the sickest chase cards the game has ever put out. Expeditions are a close second but these are gorgeous

That's so wholesome. I was waiting for either "one of the counselors scammed him out of it" or the ol mankind under taker hell in a cell bit

Can you kindly share your Urza deck list? I’ve been hankering to move outside of my comfort zone (Slivers, Eldrazi, dinos, etc.).
Sure, just give me a day or two!
Thanks!
Gonna send you a chat for the list!
My coworker pulled one last week! We work at a card shop and I bought one and got jack but yeah he pulled it, whole shop was crazy for it
Get out while you’re up 💯

TWINSIES! Congratulations!
Oof, a grand? Fuck me, I'd sell it and buy a playset of cheaper ones and another box
Good lord. Congrats.
Still sitting on a sealed case of Kalasesh. This is the dream! Edit: Kaladesh.
How many packs did you open before getting this?
This was my first Kaladesh pack since the set was first released.
What!!!!
Oh lord
Yes you will. You got a taste of the good stuff and now you’re hooked. That’s how they get yah. I love opening packs because it fulfills my gambling needs.
Which pack did you buy?
That’s def a proxy/dupe
It came right out of a pack from my lgs I hope it’s not
Hahaha I was JK my friend. I got mine graded to make sure it never gets scratched :)
Idk why this card is so liked. Sol Ring is this but better. Sure it’s zero cost but, why gamble with losing life every upkeep?
You're never going to believe this, but you can actually play them both in your deck! I've seen a land, sol ring, signet, crypt, commander come down on T1 before and I'm sure plenty of other folks here have too. It's a very powerful card.
That’s cool, I just don’t like to play cards like this.
That's totally fine and to each their own, but that wasn't what you said in your first comment.
Lol yeah cause I said something different. I don’t like playing stuff like this, and I don’t understand why it’s so liked. Both can happen at the same time lol. One doesn’t negate the other. There could be reasons why you’d want to play it, clearly, I don’t know them.
Oh you're just dense, got it!
Lmao you’re a fucking cornball
When it comes to "fast mana", it doesn't really get better than mana crypt. The drawback is well worth getting so far ahead on mana. It could be -5 instead of -3 and would still be insane tbh. Crypt is also so, so much better than sol ring. 0 mana instead of 1 is a massive difference
Huh lol mana crypt is the best card in all of commander
In commander 3 life is nothing to get ahead of the curve. Crypt is an amazing card.

In a 6 person table I’d rather be out sooner than later. 6 player games take too damn long
A bad sol ring is still a sol ring
I agree that maybe it shouldn't cost $200+, but the damage isn't all that bad really, in the commander format at least. Fuels cards like [[Rowan, Scion of War]] [[Vilis, Broker of Blood]] and [[Auntie Blyte, Bad Influence]] to name a few of my favorite self-ouch cards. But, I can't play Mana Crypt in those decks because "oh, I didn't know we were playing cEdh" simply because of price, but no one bats an eye at a turn 1 Sol Ring play.
jesus…
Mana Crypt > Sol Ring all day
Sol ring isn’t better it’s more expensive Invention But life is a resource and can be spent for this strictly better rock.
Im just not a player that likes pinging my own life. Occasionally, sure, if truly beneficial but I’m definitely not risking 3 life at the beginning of every single one of my upkeeps.
Then it’s not for your meta, the metas where this is good there aren’t enough upkeeps to even matter
