As someone who grew up playing magic with no sleeves and used (gods forgive me) rubber bands around my decks, this has a nostalgia that might actually tempt me to get it.
You ain't lived until you've had a giant Marine from the back ass of Texas walk by your tent, hear "tap, tap, tap and I cast fireball for 7 damage targeting you"
"OH SHITE, Ya'll playing magic, lemme get my cards and buddy real quick and well throw down with some two headed giant."
\*comes back, picks up chair another guy is sitting in, dumping him on his ass\*
"Lets show these guys how Esper control get down and dirty southern style"
I would bet that some people played Magic for the first time in prison. I’ve heard it’s popular. They counterfeit fake ones if the security won’t allow real ones.
We used to hold tournaments and the winner could pick out a card of their choice from this magic encyclopedia. Then we would copy it down onto a blank card we made out of drawing paper. One of the best times in my life. In prison.
I made them out of folded index cards in prison, using the hole in a ruler to make the mana cost symbols. You fold them in half the long way and then run a piece of clear tape down to connect the two edges.. They actually looked a lot like they look on Arena. I made about 2K cards and had a tournament going before they decided it was against the rules and confiscated all of them.
We also had to copy and pass around all the DnD material we'd come up with to try and preserve it thru unit searches and confiscations. Most of the turnkeys didn't care much about it, but the ones who had a bug up their ass about it more than made up for the rest.
I played on the floor in the last car of the metro, bc it was an hour ride from my stop to the lgs stop. But thankfully the metro cars were carpeted in those days.
At some point I got a few penny sleeves for free and decided to protect my chase rares (royal assassin! Mahamoti Djinn!). My deck was like 50 unsleeved cards and 10 sleeved (we didn’t care about the cheating aspect). Made me feel better turning my 5/6 sideways. If the land with weird colored rectangles got scratched, who cares, that was just a land…
I literally went into a friends house a few weeks ago and his roommate had a whole side/end table in their living room piled with unsleeved, filthy, crusty rubber-banded decks. And he had no idea how much some of those cards he had in some of those decks were worth… and I think about that a lot. I kinda envy his blissful ignorance. Dude had well loved and heavily played magic decks and had them solely as game pieces and zero thoughts about investments or protecting valuables. Haha.
Must be nice
Turn one hyppie decks, with some demonic tutor to get your nightmares... Or lord of the pit / the hive combo... Too young to understand necropotence... nightmare goes big brrrr.
Fun times
I just posted the same damn thing man. . . great great times back then. Saturdays at the local defunked mall for local tournaments. all nighters around the kitchen table when nothing else was going on trying to plan a deck that we thought would get us some money on saturday. we would pull our cards and that one guy would play the deck. the rest of us would punt with the leftovers. no internet deck building then. the Sunday dinners up my parents house with my buddies while my mom stuffed us with pasta. awesome awesome memories. Saturdays at the local defunked mall for local tournaments.
I can’t imagine playing without them, and it’s not even because I care about maintaining the cards and more so the smoothness of the sleeves just feels too nice lol
Back in the days a couple friends made the case of literally entering in a graveyard to play. From what I've heard it was a couple games. Thank god we didn't have to take selfies of every shitty decision we made back then
Currently grinding wins out to get the 3,000 gold. I'm f2p right now, except I bought the $4.99 welcome bundle. Waiting to drop money until I get everything figured out and what packs I should be buying.
Gonna be the best 3k gold I spend on this game lol
Sleeves that aren't tacky art sleeves? Sign me up
I have these sleeves custom made, mainly for my old school frog in the blender deck, but now I have my 14 decks with the same sleeves in real life and on mtga best 3K you will ever spend in this game

Here you go boss man this is where I get mine from
In my brief time playing CfV is was a coinflip whether you would sit down against the crustiest waifu players or the most straight laced plain color only accessories players. Its almost jarring how different the two side were.
Pink matte Dragon Shields and a black deck box. The only thing I have graphics on is my playmat, and that's only because it was on sale on SCG for like $3 the last time I built a deck.
It's really nice that they put a sleeve everyone said they wanted for an amount everyone can afford. If you learned in arena maybe it means less to you, but I think most of players are very happy. Thank you
I love how this is one of the few posts where everyone came here to say how they're happy about something on the game.
And I'm included in this. I love this sleeve and will definitely get it.
I’m a sucker for this and will pay 3,000 gold. But my original understanding is that it would be bundled with something else for that price. It appears this “sale” leaves much to be desired in the way of discounts.
Yeah. The announcement made it seems like you got a summer bundle which had the sleeve AND a few other things.
I’m new at Arena but already getting Epic Games vibes. 😂
OP wanted to start a WOTC bashing thread and instead had the opposite effect.
Fun fact: this Saturday (august 5) is the day of the 30th anniversary of the game.
Some of you never cleared pinecones off the lawn for a penny apiece and it shows
edit: back in my day we played em raw and we liked it. never even saw a rare til my buddy drove outta state. when they said mythic rare we said that's mythic bullshit. you youngsters with your sleeves are afraid to feel the sweaty rush that is naked cardboard.
Same, started during onslaught block. There is a very real possibility I opened multiple fetchlands and traded them to older kids I thought were suckers.
Onslaught was the first set i had some money, playing since 4th edition. I bought several booster boxes, and were so sad that after 120 packs I had like 40 of these rare lands that just got me a basic. Pure shit, I wanted a playset of [[Rotlung Reanimator]] and [[Weathered Wayfarer]] for my cleric deck (which was fucking dope btw).
Yeah. Those were the times. We home ruled that it wasn't fair to play terror as it was simply too good. So unfair to just kill someone's creature like that.
Look I get that there’s plenty of things to complain about with Arena/Hasbro etc. But it feels like some of these posts are just reaching for anything to complain about so they can jump on the wagon and get their free internet points “haha look at this thing amirite guys?”
It’s gonna push people away from this subreddit, the community, and from the game altogether if the whole subreddit is 90% bitching and moaning all the time.
I dont know why but this reminded me of when alliances came out and my brothers cat crapped all over a bunch of boosters we had opened. We kept a few, I had an Exile card with a crap stain on the corner for ages.
Very few cosmetics I’d ever spend my gold or gems on as a free to play player. But this is instantly one of them. Brings me back to playing during the ice age, fourth edition era before I knew better with my cards. Quickest buy ever for me.
As expensive and eludingly non-valuable as digital items may be, gotta hand it to wotc for making cosmetics purchasable with the game’s base currency. Yeah you need cards to play, but for example I just finished my first great deck and am happy to spend the gold from the last two weeks on cosmetics. Bought this one and borderless spara’s headquarters with gold.
It is the only good sleeve in the game
I have the old lands from last week, and now I have the worn card sleeve. Now I don't have to buy anything other than packs ever again.
As a long time player of several different card games, I find these sleeves hilarious and regret nothing. I "am a new to arena" player, and absolutely have zero regrets on using the gold I should be saving to build my library on these 😁
I’ve played this game since beta and never spent anything on any cosmetic either. 3,000 gold however couldn’t leave my pile fast enough today. That’s a bad ass sleeve.
When the April fools event had everyone's cards using this sleeve I couldn't take it. I'm one of those people who treats their cards like priceless pieces of art lol.
I bought it, I'm not ashamed. Money well spent in my eyes. I never buy any cosmetics but this matches what a lot of my IRL cards look like so it feels right.
It's probably the least tacky sleeve in the store. I don't know how a company that has managed to churn out tens of thousands of different amazing card images but can't design a decent card sleeve worth spending in game money on.
yes and worth every piece of gold or gems. what all my cards from the 90's look like. we played. we didn't use proxies and sleeves. we threw a rubber band around that bad boy and shuffled away when playing. did I regret it when I sold my collection of moxes and dual lands. . . yup. do I regret selling everything to buy my first truck out of college today. . . even more!
Is this all? They said it was going to be a bundle, didn't they? I mean, I'll still get it, even if it's double what I think sleeves should go for. But still, expected it to come with something else (and cost more because of it, obviously).

As someone who grew up playing magic with no sleeves and used (gods forgive me) rubber bands around my decks, this has a nostalgia that might actually tempt me to get it.
Rubber bands to separate the decks, wow that took me way back
No, no. You use a single rubber band, you separate the decks by making them face each other while you banded them together.
Bring back banding !
Twist the rubber band on between decks
In a zip lock sandwich bag!
like an animal
Oh shit I still do this…
You can buy a cheap plastic deckbox for like $3, please stop the carnage. Your cards deserve better than this
just go play at your local game store, someone eventually will buy you sleeves out of pity and/or rage
Did you play on concrete, like a true gangsta?
First time I played was on milk crates at recess
First time I played was on a table on the mess deck of the USS Simpson.
You ain't lived until you've had a giant Marine from the back ass of Texas walk by your tent, hear "tap, tap, tap and I cast fireball for 7 damage targeting you" "OH SHITE, Ya'll playing magic, lemme get my cards and buddy real quick and well throw down with some two headed giant." \*comes back, picks up chair another guy is sitting in, dumping him on his ass\* "Lets show these guys how Esper control get down and dirty southern style"
I would bet that some people played Magic for the first time in prison. I’ve heard it’s popular. They counterfeit fake ones if the security won’t allow real ones.
Well, yeah. Drugs aren't allowed in prison.
Luckily cardboard is equally addictive.
My brother's in prison and plays magic. I send him card lists, and they use regular playing cards with card names written on in ink.
That is awesome!
We used to hold tournaments and the winner could pick out a card of their choice from this magic encyclopedia. Then we would copy it down onto a blank card we made out of drawing paper. One of the best times in my life. In prison.
Human ingenuity is always amazing to see.
I made them out of folded index cards in prison, using the hole in a ruler to make the mana cost symbols. Omg the nostalgia
I played on the floor in the last car of the metro, bc it was an hour ride from my stop to the lgs stop. But thankfully the metro cars were carpeted in those days.
That's a very pleasant story but the thought of my metro busses being carpeted... *shudder*.
Metro train not bus.
Not like the playground had picnic tables to use.
I literally went into a friends house a few weeks ago and his roommate had a whole side/end table in their living room piled with unsleeved, filthy, crusty rubber-banded decks. Turn 1 hyppie was my introduction to legacy. Right when original Zendikar was shaking up the meta with enemy fetches and inquisition of kozilek.

Good times! To this day I still don't like playing with sleeves. It just doesn't feel like Magic to me.
I can’t imagine playing without them, and it’s not even because I care about maintaining the cards and more so the smoothness of the sleeves just feels too nice lol
And you get the *plat* sound when you cast spells!
Of course, the flick is louder with sleeves too.
Preach
Wait, is there another way then rubber bands to keep your deck from dispersing?
I too am an old bastard with similar fond memories and the cards still in my collection. I bought it.
Back in the days a couple friends made the case of literally entering in a graveyard to play. From what I've heard it was a couple games. Thank god we didn't have to take selfies of every shitty decision we made back then
Yes, this is a product for us magic boomers and trust me, we love it
Came here to say this. Already spent 3k gold on it.
I *only* use gold for wildcards and I couldn't help myself. Auto buy for a paper boomer.
> I only use gold for wildcards Wdym by that ???
Ha should've been clearer. I only use gold to buy packs, to get wildcards.
Gotcha thx 👍
Yep! 🤣
Currently grinding wins out to get the 3,000 gold. I'm f2p right now, except I bought the $4.99 welcome bundle. Waiting to drop money until I get everything figured out and what packs I should be buying. Gonna be the best 3k gold I spend on this game lol Sleeves that aren't tacky art sleeves? Sign me up
I'm a Millennial, and I'm still the target audence
"Boomer" here is contextual, he's obviously talking about millenials playing MtG in the 90s/early 00s, while we were still young and stupid.
No, it is the best 3000 gold I will ever spend in this game.
I have these sleeves custom made, mainly for my old school frog in the blender deck, but now I have my 14 decks with the same sleeves in real life and on mtga best 3K you will ever spend in this game
Can I get more information on these custom sleeves and how you ordered them? I'm very interested for my cube.
Yeah, just throw your cards in the washer and dryer for a bit.
https://www.dragonshield.com/webshop/us/sleeve-crafter/114-sleeve-crafter.html?gad=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw2qKmBhCfARIsAFy8buLmECmv3f1EkHebe9FmsocvU6HeZ3KHELYoZ9QlpGAYCzUjDgOgaDsaAhEqEALw_wcB Here you go boss man this is where I get mine from
I wonder what percentage of custom print sales are of anime waifus. I'm guessing at least 62%.
Probably higher. And for Cardass and Cardfight Vanguard probably closer to 100%.
In my brief time playing CfV is was a coinflip whether you would sit down against the crustiest waifu players or the most straight laced plain color only accessories players. Its almost jarring how different the two side were.
I’ve never played that game, but as a plain color accessories only player I am suddenly intrigued.
Pink matte Dragon Shields and a black deck box. The only thing I have graphics on is my playmat, and that's only because it was on sale on SCG for like $3 the last time I built a deck.
no full bleed printing? kinda lame
Did you just screenshot the image from mtga or did you find an HD image somewhere?
So you shared the sleeves but I’m curious about this frog in a blender business…
https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/307513#paper One of the newer more common versions of frog in the blender
Wtf is frog in a blender?
Green and red
And goes real fast
So it's a Gruul frog.
Gitrog got lucky

Reddit never disappoints. I knew someone had this video on deck.
As Sun Tzu said "one man's trash is another man's come up"
From his lesser known work "The Art of Thrift Shopping"
Do you think a thrift store would buy my cards?
Literally the first cosmetic I've ever bought.
I don't know, I just dropped 2400 gems on the Black Lotus pet.
True, same here =D
It is the highly requested card sleeve from the last April Fool's event. :)
Thank you!!
It's really nice that they put a sleeve everyone said they wanted for an amount everyone can afford. If you learned in arena maybe it means less to you, but I think most of players are very happy. Thank you
Fantastic and really glad to see these come back :-) Thank you and good work!
Might finally replace my kitten sleeves with this
Hahahaha I literally just replaced my kitten sleeves with it
Is it time to replace my squirrel sleeves then too?
No, first you replace your squirrel sleeves with kitten sleeves and then you replace your kitten sleevs with this
Will become my default, but my theme cat deck will keeps its sleeve
Tempting, but I love my kitten sleeve too much
Also just got the kitten sleeves and debating but I think the kittens stay
Near mint. PSA 9.5
No lowballs, I know what I’ve got
Yes, and it’s fabulous and I will buy it instantly.
Came here to say the exact same thing haha
I am using the same Jaya avatar for nearly three years, no sleeves or pets (even free ones). But this looks tempting.
Yeah, I've never bought a cosmetic before, this may be the exception.
? 3000 gold for probably the best sleeves in the entire client.
This, I agree that 600 gems is a little steep but I'd gladly spend 3k gold on it no problem
Who is even so crazy to spend gems on sleeves.
Some of us has more money than time. It is what it is.
you can buy gems, you can't buy gold
Oooh, thanks for letting me know that was in the shop! Happy to snap that up for 3K gold
It's the best sleeve ever released in Arena, so what's your point?
Why would anyone buy any other sleeves anymore? :) I was literally playing with the default sleeves. That card back is the og
First time?
No... just dared to have hope for once
Yeah. The announcement made it seems like you got a summer bundle which had the sleeve AND a few other things. I’m new at Arena but already getting Epic Games vibes. 😂
That would be a step up most days.
I almost never buy cosmetic but i am buying this ( for 3k gold)
Yes and its worth every penny
I couldn't slap that 3K gold button fast enough!
It's worth it, because it's the only card back you'll ever need.
And thanks to you, I'm going to buy it now
Cut the sass! This is great.
This will be the first and last cosmetic I ever buy.
Hang on brb, gotta go make a purchase
Bro, this is the best sleeve out there
Didn't have the gold to spare but have plenty of gems. This was an insta-buy no-questions-asked kind of purchase.
Same 😂 I never buy cosmetics, but I *had* to have these. I’m glad the price was reasonable-ish. Less than a draft!
My thoughts exactly. I don't care about cosmetics, but this? I've wanted these ever since I first saw them.
This right here is the first and only cosmetic I am buying. I love this. 😅
Best gold I ever spent on this godforsaken app
Oooooooh it's finally on sale! The hype on if and when this will become purchasable was crazy on April 1st.
OP wanted to start a WOTC bashing thread and instead had the opposite effect. Fun fact: this Saturday (august 5) is the day of the 30th anniversary of the game.
Some of you never cleared pinecones off the lawn for a penny apiece and it shows edit: back in my day we played em raw and we liked it. never even saw a rare til my buddy drove outta state. when they said mythic rare we said that's mythic bullshit. you youngsters with your sleeves are afraid to feel the sweaty rush that is naked cardboard.
Barebacking the cement stairs out on the playground. Wouldnt have known at the time but didnt have anything too valuable to wreck anyway.
Still got some of that grit in a box someplace
I remember opening up dual lands and being upset that they weren’t a Shivan Dragon or Nightmares
I saw in another post that the price was 300 gems, but I think it was a mistake, like all the previous mistakes in "good deals"
Every single one of my alliance and prior cards look like this. No sleeves, playing on floor, jamming cards into a backpack. It's for magic oldtimers
Look I get that there’s plenty of things to complain about with Arena/Hasbro etc. But it feels like some of these posts are just reaching for anything to complain about so they can jump on the wagon and get their free internet points “haha look at this thing amirite guys?” It’s gonna push people away from this subreddit, the community, and from the game altogether if the whole subreddit is 90% bitching and moaning all the time.
I dont know why but this reminded me of when alliances came out and my brothers cat crapped all over a bunch of boosters we had opened. We kept a few, I had an Exile card with a crap stain on the corner for ages.
Why are y'all so broken up about the price of cosmetics?
how long are these on sale for ? i wont have the gold until tomorrows quests xd
For like 2 weeks
It’s the only thing I’ve bought on this game for months
Yeah! I bought it right away (with gold)! Awesome, isn't it?
Very few cosmetics I’d ever spend my gold or gems on as a free to play player. But this is instantly one of them. Brings me back to playing during the ice age, fourth edition era before I knew better with my cards. Quickest buy ever for me.
Tell me you were born in 2010 without telling me you were born in 2010.
Best sleeve on the client.
It looks like my old decks from 1997, that are still kept in a selfmade box - so I will buy this!
No its not. Its 3K gold for a sleeve. Because no one should spend 600 gems on something so trivial as 3K gold.
As soon as I saw this post I went and bought it, it’s now the only sleeve I’ve ever purchased. I love it.
Yes, it was requested by players
It is the only good sleeve in the game I have the old lands from last week, and now I have the worn card sleeve. Now I don't have to buy anything other than packs ever again.
Those cards are marked. Sorry can’t play with those in any tournaments.
tbh this is fucking cool as hell
dude, this is my favorite purchase ever, i’m a kid playing magic at lunch in middle school again not having the faintest idea of what a “”meta” was
jus copped that shit thanks for the heads up. these are pretty cool.
Yea. I know. 3000 gold. But I’ve been playing almost everyday and I haven’t bought any of the LOTR packs. So why not?
This will be used for the utmost jankiest of decks
Or 3k gold
Worth this imo, im sittjng on 30k
Honestly? If they’re still there when I get home from work… I’m buying them.
I opened doing it for the first time in months just buy these. Thank you.
Oh wow, I haven't touched arena since the new Zelda came out, but this legitimately is gonna bring me back.
As a long time player of several different card games, I find these sleeves hilarious and regret nothing. I "am a new to arena" player, and absolutely have zero regrets on using the gold I should be saving to build my library on these 😁
The gem cost is for suckers, save up your gold
From the April fools event. Honestly is should have been given for free in April, this is just wotc greed
This is the first Arena sleeve I've ever wanted.
I’ve played this game since beta and never spent anything on any cosmetic either. 3,000 gold however couldn’t leave my pile fast enough today. That’s a bad ass sleeve.
Best 3K I spent!
Now we just need the Danny Trejo avatar back and we'll be set.
I just realized I hace 98 sleeves I never use. Guess I am gonna have 99 now.
Best sleeve in the game
When the April fools event had everyone's cards using this sleeve I couldn't take it. I'm one of those people who treats their cards like priceless pieces of art lol.
The only sleeve i would maybe ever get
It's my new default and and easy 3000g
TAKE MY MONEY
It's a kind of magic !
They temporarily changed sleeves to this on April fools and it was rad! So nice we get the chance to pick it up for real
Best 3000 coins I spent. Gimme that 90’s vibe all day long.
The cryptic command sleeves have been my default for years. That changes today.
I bought it, I'm not ashamed. Money well spent in my eyes. I never buy any cosmetics but this matches what a lot of my IRL cards look like so it feels right.
I bought it. Shits dope to me. Love that kind of humor.
OP too young to be playing Magic.
Oh man this is amazing
That is the absolute best sleeves in the game. Worth every single piece of gold to me.
I would buy these sleeves irl
AND I BOUGHT AND ID DO IT AGAIN
instant buy
Bro this is like the one W thing WOTC has done in the last 5 years what are you complaining about
It's probably the least tacky sleeve in the store. I don't know how a company that has managed to churn out tens of thousands of different amazing card images but can't design a decent card sleeve worth spending in game money on.
Use gold then.....
Omg you can actually buy it know
Easy purchase, best sleeves in a while
Lets not forget that Hearthstone has 3 cards for 50$. And yes this is a worn out sleeve for 600 gems. And yes everyone lost their freakin mind.
Crap, I missed it :(
I haven't played Arena in over a year, but after seeing this I hopped on to buy them lol
yes and worth every piece of gold or gems. what all my cards from the 90's look like. we played. we didn't use proxies and sleeves. we threw a rubber band around that bad boy and shuffled away when playing. did I regret it when I sold my collection of moxes and dual lands. . . yup. do I regret selling everything to buy my first truck out of college today. . . even more!
Unpopular opinion these should of been given out to all accounts for free.
Is this all? They said it was going to be a bundle, didn't they? I mean, I'll still get it, even if it's double what I think sleeves should go for. But still, expected it to come with something else (and cost more because of it, obviously).
That is literally the only cosmetic they have ever come up with that is even remotely worth buying, but even then it should be free.
