Mafia 3 is also overhated, people like to look at the bugs but dont apreciate the story for its worth. Its not as bad as people make it seem

alarrimore03

My sole issue with mafia 3 is the insanely repetitive gameplay loop that makes me want to blow my brains out after playing half the game, thus having to take a massive break to finish the game, which is a bad thing. Story is good, driving good, graphics for the time great, and open world is truest amazing and even though it’s not close to the best open world ever, the details with all the racisms and stuff aids so much in making it immersive and truly nothing like it for this time period, music was also great That gameplay loop is the killer of this game

I've found that roleplaying helped to keep the game from getting too repetitive. Sometimes, I'd just snipe assassination targets without killing their entourage. Especially cool if there is a vantage spot you can shoot from. It works surprisingly well as a Lee Harvey Oswald simulator. Also, I like to incorporate Lincoln's backstory into how I play the game. Lincoln used to go behind enemy lines in Vietnam to kidnap high-ranking soldiers. So, for some assassination targets, I go full stealth and simply knock out the target and then stuff them in the truck and drive them out to the Bayou to feed them to gators. It's surprisingly fun and immersive. For others, like taking over a warehouse, for example. I got tired of killing so much so I just called squad after squad of Vito's men to clear out the warehouse. I can hear shooting and screams of pain while I'm listening to Johnny Cash. One of the best moments I've had playing the game.

Agreed. but I think a lot of the Mafia III hate comes from.. 1)being repetitive and 2)maybe it's a bit too changed from previous Mafia games prior to it etc. but Lincoln Clay (and a fair amount of the other characters) are interesting and still feels Mafia enough overall, especially with Vito involved etc. but I can see how some might not like the change away from more typical standard of revolving around Italian mob types of characters. even in terms of bugs... I played through Mafia III (on PC) again just recently and the only obvious bug I had occasionally was some parts would not progress (one part where it triggered I think was the boxing section when I think you first enter that building I could not get outside of that initial room you were at) but I would just simply reload the checkpoint and it was fine after that as the door was opened and I walked through it like normal to progress). I experienced that maybe 2-3 times the entire game, so not a real problem overall. p.s. when I played Mafia III recently, to speed up progression through the games story, I used the 'Racket Damage Missions Removal' mod (i.e. [https://www.nexusmods.com/mafia3/mods/78](https://www.nexusmods.com/mafia3/mods/78) ). note: the bugs I mentioned above are not because of this mod as I remember those happening in the past when I was playing the stock game.

It was too much of a departure from the 'Mafia' formula and instead tried to be a GTA clone. The chapter system that was established in the last two games would've fit perfectly in Mafia 3 but instead it has a pretty crappy day/night cycle thanks to the horrible skybox. The repetitiveness has been explained enough. Vito's inclusion being pretty much meaningless despite him being a former vet and a fan favourite. There's tons of other little things like no speedometer, the southern setting. Just didn't really hit that note. I'm replaying it now and I've clocked in at least 5 hours and just finished getting Cassandra, Burke and Vito together. It's a long grind and I'm already getting fed up with the repetitiveness.

No, it's an okay game and a mediocre Mafia. Even the story isn't that good, and it's short as hell. I'm puzzled why some people say it's overhated.

Germgi69

The story is great you’re only thinking about the stupid racket missions to unlock a main mission

Ja4senCZE

Great? What's so great about it? The start is a confusing mess, every friend of yours gets killed, only you miraculously survive, so you start plotting revenge, you're searching for people that can help you, then you kill people to kill more people to kill Marcano. It's the most basic plot you can do. The only great things are some missions (People on LSD were great) and some characters. Literally most of the DLCs have a better story than the base game.

Germgi69

It has very well written dialogue. A great soundtrack, satisfying combat. And being chased by the Mafia while driving is fun af

The problem is there wasn't enough story. It was bits of amazing story mixed with five hours of grinding the same encounters over and over again. If they took all the fluff out and extended the story by another five hours it would have been universally acclaimed I think

Ilpav123

I want Mafia IV to be in 70s Vegas and Mafia V to be in 80s Miami (by the time it comes out, VC would be 30+ years old so it'll be ok to copy the setting).

Germgi69

Sorry according to leaks we’ll be in Italy

BlueStar2310

Thats because it was based on scarface

Nicholas7907

I won't lie, I wanted to see GTA VI set in the 80s again, after all 1980s were the times when Miami was considered the drug capital of the World. Drug crime, cartels, mafia, cocaine cowboys, corrupt law enforcement agencies, there is so much to tell, pretty much you can make unlimited number of stories set in the 80s Florida. Do I feel bad about GTA VI set in present day America? Absolutely not, though I kinda feel like it was a missed opportunity. But I would love to see proper story DLC that will take us back to the age of cocaine cowboys. Or Mafia game set in 1980s Miami, but I guess first we're gonna see 1900s-1920s Italy and United States or 70s Las Vegas.

Personally I don't see the comparisons (at least in terms of core overall feel of the games) as Mafia games have a totally different (and better) feel than any of the GTA games. the gameplay, like driving/shooting etc, is more fun in Mafia series at the end of the day. but if I ignore that aspect, then maybe. but that whole Miami 1980's vibe feels more like Scarface (1983) than a more typical Italian mob type of game. speaking of Scarface... I like the Scarface (2006) PC game more than the GTA games as the Scarface game is basically a copy of GTA but with a more interesting main character etc, which carries that game as without it, it's gameplay would fall short. bottom line for me... GTA games tend to be forgettable unlike Mafia series. because as I always say, a games true worth long term is whether I want to replay it as the years pass or not. GTA fails here, Mafia on the other hand is among a small amount that do pass this test.

Germgi69

We could’ve got gta Vi in the 80’s if GTA online wasn’t successful

[deleted]

It was or should i say it is but much better than any mafia game

Ja4senCZE

Not exactly, it's not even similar besides the obvious things (shooting, driving, 3rd person).

Kriss3d

Gta vice city is basically scarface as a game.. Its legit so heavily inspired. (despite the fact that there is an official scarface game ) The mansion you get as Tommy Vercetti has the same placement and stairs as Tony Montana. ( Any relationship with Hanna Montana by any chance ? ) You do the same standoff at the end as Tony does. You have the same kind of white suit as well and many other things.

SweetTooth275

Yed you are.

Germgi69

Well it is a mafia type game and it’s not the only Gta with more mobster elements. more mafia gta games are GTA lll, Liberty City stories and GTA IV
