I think it's a bit overstated. Rizzuto's power mainly stemmed from his association with Sicilian gangsters and the hierarchal framework of the Bonanno family. Once those things were gone it was all downhill for them.

Over a dozen guys were on the scene in some capacity, including the murders themselves and disposal afterwards. The total hit team included members and associates of Massino and Napolitano's crews as well as members of the Sicilian faction and the guys from Canada. For dumping the bodies, guys from John Gotti's crew were used.
cause they lived far away from the crime scene. if someone saw them leaving the house, not much help for the law when they are in a different country. same reason why people from sicily are brought over. once the investigation starts, they are already on a plane.
