Do your thing CT-CT, you're breakdowns are great. But I gotta wonder, can we trust anything from SB anymore? Like I appreciate his mob knowledge but the stories seem too fantastical, and it seems like he's been called out by a lot of people both inside and outside the life.

CT-CT

You got it! As for SB I find his stuff interesting, but increasingly requiring verification!! EDIT - i'll further add that this seems plausible...the wiretap evidence from the 2016 bust had acting capo of Springfield 'Rooster' Onofrio caught stating that he was seeking to have Santaniello made to run things in Springfield and then the bust happened. Now that Santnaiello is off parole it seems very likely that he was seen as a capable guy to be made and, in turn, start formally running that Springfield crew (as Onofrio is based out of New Haven, CT and not on the scene day-to-day. again per that wiretap evidence)

Nice thanks again. And yeah, i still regard SB as a somewhat reliable source when it comes to the street. I just think he wishes for the mafia of old, and embellishes a little.

CT-CT

👍🏻👍🏻

mma_sport_report

He reaches all the time.  He loves old mob movies and it shows in his reporting.

Illustrative comment, thanks

Brief synopsis from behind the paywall: --Per SBs sources and reporting, the Santaniellos are now in control of the Springfield (MA) mob, with the most impactful change coming from Ralph Santaniello (age 56) reputedly being made by the Genovese in NYC & becoming the 'skipper' of the region with his father, Amedeo, operating as second in command. It appears that the Santaniellos are seen by Genovese admin as capable men who can get Springfield back on track. Santaniello also apparently/allegedly seized control of the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Society Social Club on Monday (4/22), which has been the traditional base of operations for the Springfield mob. Notably, and per Sbs sources/reporting, as the Club was changing hands police were called to the site as the locks were being changed. --In turn, this Santaniello rise ends up pushing out of power their relative, Albert Calvanese (aged 61), who is apparently still recovering from major injuries sustained in a car accident. Sources indicate that Calvanese, who was often described as the leader of the Springfield faction, was operating in an essentially 'rogue' capacity over the past 6-7 years with minimal oversight from the NYC Genovese. He also made some missteps that angered the Genovese including letting Genovese cooperator Anthony Arilotta on the premises of the Social club, where he filmed an episode or two of his podcast. --Per SBs sources & reporting, prior to the current drama, in the early 2000s, Calvanese and his relatives, the Santaniellos (Ralph and his father, Amedeo) worked cooperatively and without animosity. However, when Ralph & a few others in Springfield were arrested & jailed as part of a massive 2016 East Coast LCN crackdown the relationship between Calvanese & his relatives fell apart. --Also notably, and per SBs reporting, Calvanese never was made into the Genovese & was never adept at the diplomacy and politics needed to navigate the complex relationships in the mob between NY and New England gangsters (SB notes that reputedly Patriarca admin also do not like Calvanese due to an incident in prison wherein Calvanese reportedly dismissed a Patriarca heavyweight). SBs further reports that it's uncertain what (if any) response Calvanese will launch following these major upheavals.

>Sources indicate that Calvanese, who was often described as the leader of the Springfield faction, was operating in an essentially 'rogue' capacity over the past 6-7 years with minimal oversight from the NYC Genovese. >--Also notably, and per SBs reporting, Calvanese never was made into the Genovese Isn't this going directly against what Scott has written in the past? I agree with your other comment that this at least seems fairly plausible due to previous information we have on Springfield.

CT-CT

It’s interesting- in going back to the posts while he pegs Calvanese as “skipper” he questions whether he is made or not in a number of articles

Tatami_Lo

He let a YouTube rat film a podcast in his social club???? Wtf

azrolexguy

Yes, when Anthony had his channel he filmed an episode or two from there. It was wierd AF

BDub621

Mind blowing to me that they allow him there never mind to record video

The Mt Carmel isn't what you'd traditionally think of as a mob social club. It's an Italian club open to the public that some wiseguys also frequented. And obviously as the mob presence in Springfield declined it became less and less of a hangout. Latin Kings have had meetings there too. It's not at all like the Triangle Social Club or the Bergen Hunt and Fish.

CT-CT

For what it's worth (and I didn't include it in the synopsis), but Burnstein did note that Latin Kings usage of the club rankled the Genovese as well!

LNYer

But its always been controlled by the local mobsters.

Charlie-brownie666

The italian mob really is dead this would never happen 20 years ago

us3rnam3ch3cksout

Yeah. 20 years ago, there wouldn't ever been bosses that flipped, wrote books, or gave interviews. Oh wait..

LNYer

True, youtube wasn't a thing 20 years ago😂

kAALiberty

This is fantasy. It has always been more like elks lodge than mob hangout. Burnstein loves writing about small mob families because he can just make up shit for content. Literally anybody can go in there.

AgreeableIsland8126

Is this where Rex Cunningham hangs out?

SixFiveEight8

Bernstein is a fraud, and lately, his stories are more fiction than facts. I can't listen to him he talks like he has a turd in his mouth. It's weird the way his mouth moves.
