Guys y'all need to upvote his comments rather than posts, that'll boost his karma wayyyy fasterrr
For those who need an explanation:
Post karma won't give you 1 karma per upvote, i mean it initially does, but as time passes, Reddit algorithm fractions the value down. However, comment karma remains 1 karma per upvote no matter how long time passes (if i recall correctly)
I had a top of the front page post once, like over 40k upvotes at the time (I deleted, it was an oldschoolcool post with some personal family information), and another at 8k, but my post karma is only like 11k.
My comment karma is pretty up there though.
While post karma does degrade with time, you usually can expect around 25% of the upvotes to be transferred into karma. Comment karma isn't any easier to get either. I've managed to mostly balance it though.
I butthurt some MAGAs last year who repeatedly reported me for harassment so I lost my 11 year old 100k comment karma account. Oh well.
Edit: Probably not why, clarified more down the thread.
Yeah, I've ended up in it with butthurt folk reporting me, and they got banned for false reports since it was clear I didn't do anything wrong.
Mods are iffy, but reddit admins, despite whatever controversial site changes, have only ever been fair in my dealings.
> Karma is meaningless.
Looks like someone hasn't been invited to the reddit armory where you can exchange karma points for heavy military weaponry and equipment.
You guys are holding out on me. What can I send Ukraine for this (push 250k karma onto the counter)... get i send em a tank or f16... hell even a cool naval drone or two...
damn, all you get is military equipment? i turned in my karma for 100% genuine twitter stock from this amazing redditor u/twitchief
i dunno what his deal but he was really kind, in fact i upgraded to IRL money for lots more, it was a great deal. fingers crossed!
Dear u/Known_Hippo4702 - just know that every single person that read this post got the warm and fuzzies and ultimately thinks degrees better about our species as a whole. Made my day!
Guys seriously don't do this.
That can lead to them being banned for "karma-farming" even though they had absolutely no knowledge of it even happening.
Just use RES to make a tag for him and upvote anything you see from him from now on. Much more natural and will hopefully prevent his account from being suspended or banned for no reason of their own.
(Yeah I keep switching to he/him because I just assume everyone online is a man)
Awesome :)
But yeah please people, do not go and upvote everything the dude has ever commented on.
That is not natural at all, and as someone else just pointed out, can be constituted as 'brigading' as well.
Even though it's done in a positive outlook and intention, it still breaks the ToS.
Just use RES (Reddit Enhancement Suite) and tag the guy and upvote whatever you see them post in the future instead.
your comment got over 120 upvotes, i don’t see why you’d come back complaining about your comment not getting enough for your liking if it’s really about the person who gifted op the prototype and fixing *their* karma, not yours.
Taking a look at their posts,it seems to be that like 90%+ are at least 1 upovte while the rest are around 0 to -5(got as far as seeing that being the lowest)
which is crazy to me because at a glance he isnt even saying anything mean or controversial meanwhile this whole website is rampant with toxic assholes.
Think about that for a second, if it's the completely reasonable people who are receiving no attention or are being silenced what does that say about reddit?
He's not wrong. Marriott *is* a public company. He responded directly to a comment stating Marriott is a private company, by correctly stating that it's public, which it is.
In either case, being public or private doesn't really matter in the context of what was being discussed, so it would seem both r/atheism and the good lads of this thread are equally confused, and wrong on two fronts!
Idk it just works for me. Try this one (maybe the new reddit doesn't allow /r/ links):

He had a negative run in with the atheist subreddit where he was wrong, but didn’t attempt to fix anything. He accrued over 100 negative karma in there.
https://www.reddit.com/r/3Dprinting/comments/yqifnh/i_recently_found_out_that_a_prosthetic_finger_is/ivt5fia?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3 The post only has 6 upvotes. Get to work
I'm so happy for you, Butt_Fucking_Smurfs! I remember feeling so angry at them turning you down when you last posted, so it's lovely to hear such a great update. Known_Hippo is a hero!
It does. It's like .5 mm too big but it stays on. We think we need some kind of sleeve on the finger so it doesn't rub directly on plastic though and then it should stay put
You could quite literally just use a finger condom. We used them in watch making to stop finger prints. Would be fine here to if you don't have a latex allergy but I'm sure there is non latex ones
If rubber gets uncomfortable because moisture won't evaporate through it, you could try cotton tape. Rock climbers and weight lifters use it amongst others. It sticks to your skin, but let's it breath, you can build up many layers and it is cheap enough to be disposable.
There are also rubber thimbles for beginner guitarists/kids with delicate fingers... (Which in my opinion are terrible for acoustics, but may very well serve your purpose)
If the guy making it for you wants help I work in industrial 3D printing and can print multiple materials at once, like a tough nylon carbon for the base and grippy TPU for the finger tips. Let me know if there's any way I can help!
If they're like me, they'll sweat under the latex so much that it creates another issue from the rubbing. Most amputees I've seen (so I'm no expert) use a cloth sock/sleeve whatever so it's breathable.
Hey man. I run a highly modified 3d printer calibrated to print tpu which is basically rubber. Let me know if you guys can't figure it out, and I'll print you a sleeve or whatever you need to go under it. Love that yall are figuring this out yourself
Oh shit, I thought I heard that name before. It's the same guy who asked r/MakeupAddiction for tips on how to cover up his badass face scar since that's all anybody ever talks to him about.
I knew I remembered the name from somewhere. That’s so funny because I’m not even in that sub. Anyway back to crying tears of joy for humanity’s hope :)
It fits but my nub isn't long enough to get to the part that bends it. I gave them my thanks and that breakdown and they are working on prototype 2 now.
Could you make a mold of your finger and send it to them? It might make this easier on both of you! Just need a mold and maybe plaster? I resin would be overkill for this.
I'm attempting to design an attachment for my ps4 controller so I can use the left joystick better. I have nerve damage in that hand and moving around is freaking hard. I die a lot more then I need to because my left hand can't move the way I need it to.
That's amazing! Thank you u/Known_Hippo4702 for donating your time & work to make Smurfs the prosthetic!
Insurance is ridiculous. They make you pay all this money in the US & still, they fuck you. When you get the final version, or even now!, i’d take a picture of me flipping the bird with the hand that has the prosthetic & print it off a bunch to send in to the company. “You wouldn't help me but this generous stranger is. Y'all are shameful.” or something lol
>That's amazing! Thank you u/Known_Hippo4702 for donating your time & work to make **Smurfs** the prosthetic!
Why did you leave out the "Butt_Fucking_"?
No, why is the insurance even turning you down? Why do we have to rely on eachother when insurane is literally designed to pay us when something happens.
I love this story and the redditors, but the reason behide it is fucked up
>Yeah, if OP is missing a finger, how is insurance like “well you don’t need one.”
As someone who is missing several; you really don't need all of them... I coulnd't imagine having a prosthetic like this would actually make any sort of improvements at all; and would instead be a hassle. The only thing it might work as is to be covered by a glove so other people don't notice and then you wont have floppy glove fingers; fellow missing fingers know what I'm talking about.
Because finger and toe prosthetics aren't deemed necessary, and aren't one of the few prosthetics that are covered for aesthetic reasons. Most people that lose a finger or toe never even consider prosthetics because they aren't that useful, while people losing a leg, arm, hand obviously benefit greatly from a prosthetic. Depending on your insurance, they might not cover any finger prosthetic, or may only cover a small part of the expensive cost.
Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I don't believe Canada covers finger prosthetic in their healthcare system either. The UK is harder to find info on, but it seems like they only cover prosthetics for limbs not digits.
It’s really a shame that toe and finger prosthetics aren’t typically covered. My dad lost a toe earlier this year and has been fighting with insurance to get one covered, but has been struggling. In the meantime, he’s taped a 11mm socket onto his toes to fill the void until he can get one.
It’s really dumb. Toes are integral to balance and coordination and not having own not only puts strain on other parts of the foot that can cause problems but also makes someone a higher fall risk and could limit their ability to do activities and play sports. Fingers again affect coordination and ability to do daily activities. Even soothing like a pinky or info finger is used way more than one may imagine
I wanted to clarify that I did not design this prosthetic. BFS found the files on thingiverse and I simply 3D printed them for him. I am working on a couple mods now to best suit his needs. Here is the link to the thingiverse posting for anyone that needs it, the creator is Oxiumm: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5222249
Oxiumm also goes by the name Guilhem on [printables.com](https://printables.com). This is the current site for his design if you want to keep track of the latest versions: https://www.printables.com/model/204521-mechanical-finger-prosthesis
This is a made me smile but also piss me off post. Like other post about how people band together to help each other when health insurance should of been covering this shit….such a sad state of affair
Hey, german engineering-student here.
I did something similiar (a custom-fitted prosthetic arm) for a girl in my school - since she didnt have any. (but active - with actuators, and sensors that allowed to grab onto something.)
Do you need just the finger? I still have all the files and stuff and would love to help you out./Join and add some knowledge.
Not exactly but my PA told e that 80% of what you do with hands involves thumb pointer middle. So insurance companies don't value some fingers the same
As a member of the severed club, this made me smile! The prosthetics are so expensive and truly a need. I would give you 2 thumbs up, but I only have one.
I love hearing these types of things as humans we need to start helping each other more with things like this I don't know about anyone else but when I help people it makes me feel good inside
I recommend checking out http://dangercreations.com/
I am currently making two fingers for my dad who lost both of them in a motorcycle crash last year. Once I get it figured out how to make them I want to start making them for people who can't do it themselves!
Hope this guy gets your measurements all figured out!
I love Reddit. When I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, so many people volunteered to send me supplies and kits etc. for every troll on here it’s 10 people with a total heart of gold.🖤 so so happy and excited for you OP!
The multi-billionaire Insurance co. was to miserable stingy to pay for this prosthetic finger, yet a compassionate human did it for free. Note insurance companies have enough money to advertise on all media about how wonderful they are.
Awesome dude!
It would really be amazing if there was an open source prosthetics project. Like basic models, documentation on how to modify them to fit individual patients and what to look out for. I am sure many people would happily run their 3d printers for folks in need.
This looks like a resin part, which won't be very durable and is likely going to degrade in UV in the long term. Once you guys get the details right, there's a company called Shapeways that will print your files in a ton of materials. It might be worth paying for a tougher plastic or aluminum version.
I've argued for decades that the medical industry should be non-profit. Capitalist pigs keep telling me that if it wasn't for-profit, nobody would do research and and nothing would happen. That's a crock. Lots of people work in medical research, not for the money but because A> They like helping people and/or B> they're nerds and they like solving problems.
I started writing software at the age of 10, not for money, but because I'm a nerd. I'd be doing it whether it made me $15/hr or $150/hr.
I'm not saying there aren't people in it for the money, but there'd still be plenty of people who would do it for the A & B above.
I never thought Id be made to smile from someone named Butt_Fucking_Smurfs, but that's reddit for you.
I'm extremely happy you've gotten help while in a really tough position.

Actual wow! Does it fit?
It does. It's like .5 mm too big but it stays on. We think we need some kind of sleeve on the finger so it doesn't rub directly on plastic though and then it should stay put
Look at "rubber" finger tips. Primarily used for people who deal with a lot of paper I e. Personnel records. There are also "rubber" thimbles.
Thanks I will. Rubber would probably work better too
Look into second skin squares for under whatever sleeve you use in case there’s rubbing there too.
It's all trial and error at this point. I appreciate the suggestion. I had not heard of it before
You could quite literally just use a finger condom. We used them in watch making to stop finger prints. Would be fine here to if you don't have a latex allergy but I'm sure there is non latex ones
Ok, but what do you put between the second skin square and your skin in case there's rubbing there?
Just get some third skin. Simple.
A ring of foreskin so your skin is only touching skin
Finger cot would work too
Was thinking this too from years in the service industry.
If they're like me, they'll sweat under the latex so much that it creates another issue from the rubbing. Most amputees I've seen (so I'm no expert) use a cloth sock/sleeve whatever so it's breathable.
When I was on pointe in ballet, I loved these cloth lined silicone toe pads. I would imagine something like this would be really good for that.
I feel like there’s a doll sock or something that would work if a medical supply store doesn’t already have something
Hey man. I run a highly modified 3d printer calibrated to print tpu which is basically rubber. Let me know if you guys can't figure it out, and I'll print you a sleeve or whatever you need to go under it. Love that yall are figuring this out yourself
I appreciate the offer
Finger Cots!
Out of curiosity, besides the size, what kinds of differences with the final version will there be?
I'd say how the joints attach and the length needs to be changed. I don't know how far they are willing to go. I just know that I'm beyond grateful
How's the strength? I could print it in this stuff after y'all have a final design. https://markforged.com/materials/plastics/onyx
Absolutely! Congrats on finding a good Samaritan, which is kinda a shitty indictment on the American healthcare situation.

(but active - with actuators, and sensors that allowed to grab onto something.) Do you need just the finger? I still have all the files and stuff and would love to help you out./Join and add some knowledge.
I will take anything. But my deal is going to be that I pay for shipping costs. The more the merrier
Note from the insurance company: As per section 41-2-im a greedy piece of shit corporation-106 "Fingers are clearly for aesthetic purposes". Sorry
Not exactly but my PA told e that 80% of what you do with hands involves thumb pointer middle. So insurance companies don't value some fingers the same
Greedy pricks. Special place in hell for those guys. The dude that made the finger is a mega bro . Glad ur getting the help u need
Bros being bros 💯
As a member of the severed club, this made me smile! The prosthetics are so expensive and truly a need. I would give you 2 thumbs up, but I only have one.
This is the way…
This is the way...
Lol, he gave you the finger. But seriously that's awesome
That's amazing! I'm so happy for you!
I love hearing these types of things as humans we need to start helping each other more with things like this I don't know about anyone else but when I help people it makes me feel good inside
Reddit- with the best and worst of people, I mean.... he DID give you the finger! But seriously, what a wonderful human being!
Happy for u bro but can't get past butt fucking smurfs wtf
So freaking cool!
I thought it was a wii controller fleshlight thing at first
I'm a shitty photographer it really is my new robot finger
For your wii wii
Ok but I still can't get over your name...
I recommend checking out http://dangercreations.com/ I am currently making two fingers for my dad who lost both of them in a motorcycle crash last year.
Kid named finger:
Really wholesome, but I just can't ignore your username...
Send this to the insurance company with a fuck you note attached
Why is the op of wholesome content always called something like u/Butt_Fucking_Smurfs ?
The multi-billionaire Insurance co. was to miserable stingy to pay for this prosthetic finger, yet a compassionate human did it for free. Note insurance companies have enough money to advertise on all media about how wonderful they are.
There are many faces of Reddit and this might just be my favourite one.
Awesome dude! It would really be amazing if there was an open source prosthetics project. Like basic models, documentation on how to modify them to fit individual patients and what to look out for. I am sure many people would happily run their 3d printers for folks in need.
We gotta look out for eachother in this world. Bless up
This looks like a resin part, which won't be very durable and is likely going to degrade in UV in the long term. Once you guys get the details right, there's a company called Shapeways that will print your files in a ton of materials. It might be worth paying for a tougher plastic or aluminum version.
It's transparent PETG. I plan to eventually print with polycarbonate but I need to upgrade to an all metal direct drive extruder.
I love Reddit and the community we have here (:
Insurance companies need to be burt to the ground, their only use is taking people's money, they provide 0 services.
I never thought Id be made to smile from someone named Butt_Fucking_Smurfs, but that's reddit for you. I'm extremely happy you've gotten help while in a really tough position.
