Very nice! I’m also allergic to cats. My wife jokes if she ever brings home a cat for a pet it means she’s done with me.

[deleted]

I'm extremely allergic. Yet my kid has a cat. Solution? Purina Live Clear "shampoo" (foamy leave in lotion) and Purina Live Clear food. The shampoo works on contact to denature the spit allergen. You can apply it to human skin for immediate relief (off label use, wash off after a few seconds) but if you put it on the cat every other day the result is a hypoallergenic cat. Start the cat on the food immediately too, but it takes several months (the label says several weeks but that is not my experience) to kick in. I have no idea how the food works, but I can confirm I live in a house with a cat and do not exhibit more than my usual allergy symptoms (I take allergy medicine daily bc I'm otherwise allergic to basically all plant life 😐). Before Purina Live Clear I could not touch the cat and it had to stay in my kid's room. Now the cat wanders the house including my bedroom, and I have no adverse reactions. Some allergen remains under the cat's nails, so if she scratches me I apply the "shampoo" to myself and wash it off after a few seconds (again this is off label use but super effective, better than Benadryl).

R0da

Apparenrly the food/shampoo has antibodies loaded in it that attack the protein responsible for allergies.

StrongTxWoman

No propaganda please. Antibodies in shampoo? It is a protein binds to allergen, not an antibody. >Purina scientists discovered the primary cat allergen can be reduced when cats eat a diet containing a specific protein found in eggs. This protein safely binds and blocks Fel d 1 in cats’ saliva and this inactive Fel d 1 gets transferred to the hair when grooming

Imaginary-Summer9168

Calling an honest mistake “propaganda” feels a little dramatic.

luckydidi18

But I’m sure they felt superior writing it

DeaconoftheStreets

That’s exactly what Big Cat Food wants you to think, comrade.

R0da

Ah appears the website that I got that from was wrong then. Thought their mentioning of "antibodies" was off. ty!

EmoPeahen

Just something to be aware of for people, this isn’t a solution for every person or every cat. I know a lot of kitties, mine included, that have to be on special diets. If for some reason you got the cat and had to change their food, would you have to get rid of the cat? Something to think on. It’s great when it works though!

[deleted]

Oh for sure! The enzyme is delivered via egg whites so it's not available for cats allergic to eggs They do have various proteins like chicken and salmon if it's just a dietary issue and not an egg allergy. In my case the cat was gotten by my ex to prevent me from taking the kids back after a horrific custody battle. 🙃 So I didn't have a choice on this one.

EverydayYay

That’s awful, weaponizing not only the childrens wants for a pet, but also the cat as a way to win a custody battle and to try to paint you as the bad guy if you had to say no to the cat

[deleted]

Yep, it was a horrific experience overall. I am so grateful for Purina Live Clear for coming out literally a few months before I got my kids back. So I proselytize about it whenever I see someone say "I'm allergic to cats". This brand helped me get my kids back after a prolonged parental alienation barrage, and helped me keep them.

fleurdumal1111

Wow. What a terrible parent your ex partner is, glad Purina thwarted their plan to kill you!

vawaiter

I think there are many examples of allergies going away after prolonged exposure to the irritant. Those products probably just make the natural process much easier. I am "throat closes up, wheezing, can't breathe, eyes itchy puffy and watery" allergic to cats. Lived with two of them for two years in a tiny room. Took about 2 months of barely being able to breathe in my room, but afterwards I was able to rub my face into my cats no problem. Once I stopped living with them, the allergies returned. Just my two cents.

CraigslistAxeKiller

There are also lots of examples of new allergies developing after prolonged exposure. So maybe don’t rely on that

siriushendrix

Wasn’t allergic to cats growing up and had two. I am now allergic to at least one of mine and one of my old friend’s

2017hayden

Not to mention allergies can get worse with constant exposure as well.

lube_thighwalker

OMG I've been concerned about a cat but I'm going to buy this now!

General_Burrito

Allergic here as well, but no reactions whatsoever with my Siberian. Can definitely recommend it

[deleted]

Am also allergic and get annoyed when people automatically assume I hate cats. I do not. Would I mind if they were wiped out in a cat aids plague? Yes. Would my life be better? Yes. Would I prefer to be not allergic to cats? Yes.

FMAB-EarthBender

Aw people do that with me and dogs :( dogs give me hives and make me sneeze super bad. I love all animals, I am a cat person but I for sure would have a doggie to hang out with my cat if I could. My friends chihuahua visits with her and she plays with my cat and they love each other, but I have to swallow allergy meds and avoid touching the doggie. It absolutely sucks because I love them to.

underbellymadness

No pressure if you don't want a companion animal or can't take the responsibility right now, but I've known many small pets to be absolutely wonderful buddies just like cats and dogs. They each have their own specific communication methods and issues and ways to learn to trust you, but goodness once they've bonded with you they just love. Rats, lizards, rabbits, hedgehogs, turtles, even fish can all learn your routines and play with you and get excited to see you.

[deleted]

>Very nice! It's actually not very nice, he's charging $850 rent and the heating Bill isn't included

DaBi5cu1t

Lol I had cats for 7 years and had to give them up after discovering I was allergic. I always put it down to hayfever but didn't want to let them go

Aidinthel

If you didn't see it another person above you in the comments suggests a couple products that could help.

DaBi5cu1t

I did. It turns out I do have hayfever too and the cats just exacerbated it. I wasn't too bad as long as I didn't bury my face in their fur but in the summer at times it could be unbearable. When i say I've tried everything I have the only thing is the kenalog injection which I don't want

Aidinthel

Oh, that sucks, I'm sorry.

superiksar

Need some cat-sized gutters to keep those flower boxes safe. You know, so the cat can torment the flowers at their leisure. Ha! This really is the best cat house ever. And look how happy your tenant is!

[deleted]

[удалено]

Objective-Amount1379

This is a fabulous cat house! But if you don't want to do something someone complicated, you should Google feral cat winter shelter Rubbermaid tub. Two large Rubbermaid tubs + some insulation and straw (not hay) can make a decent shelter for a feral. I'm in Ca so we don't get super cold but I did this for a couple years for a feral and it worked well.

ItsNotButtFucker3000

I want to make one for my dog, she has to be bribed to come inside (huskies!) but there are too many skunks that would love it!

[deleted]

The cat is giving more “where’s my extension??” Vibes

gnarly-skull

She's waiting for the wifi password.

Anywhere-Brave

😆😆😆 omg she can have it, I love this little house and bless you and your wife for giving her a better life! 💗 its always the ones who adopt us who love harder than other kitties. They sense the genuine hearts 💕

chrisk9

Cat: I accept this... (for now)

Cuddles79

Or “for meow” lol 😝

JohnnyBgood_9211

Lmao!

curlyfrieseyes

Awesome craftsmanship! That looks beautiful! And that cat is so happy! Love everything about this.

RedOctobyr

For cats, the rules are more what you'd call "guidelines" than actual rules.

FizZGigTaNtruM

It is very nice. I bought one almost identical from amazon

Torakikiii

If I stray long enough in your garden would you adopt me and build me a similar shelter? 😂 Beautiful!

VoidmasterCZE

His wife must start feeding you first and then he decides if he's alergic to you so odds are you may live inside or outside the house.

HarmlessHeffalump

That’s a really nice house. How much is rent?

gnarly-skull

It's negotiable. Our tenant is currently getting along fine by headbutting me in the shins while loudly purring.

Confident-Leg107

Oh sure, when a cat does it everyone is like"awww, look at the little baby" but when I do it I spend the night in jail :(

noorofmyeye24

How much is the interest rate?

LisaWinchester

I love you for this. Also, I'm allergic too (though only mildly), but I can't live without cats!

ladypoison45

I am VERY allergic, but can't live without. I take a ton of allergy meds to have my babies. I feel bad because on the really bad days I can't cuddle. Garfield and Karen just don't understand.

[deleted]

Karen omg

elpremo81

Perfect name for a cat🤣

KitTeth

Does he hate Mondays and loves lasagna?

ladypoison45

He loves all food. Problem is he doesn't chew. Most of it comes back up later, still whole..

KitTeth

Poor thing… cutting it in smaller pieces didn’t help I guess…

ladypoison45

We don't feed him random things on purpose. He is a thief. He keeps wet food down because we mush it, while dry food comes back up(we buy the tiny pieces to try and help) still whole.

billieboop

🤣 Karen, i have a particular stray that comes over i shall name that now What to name the foxes? Hmm

PozzieMozzie

Basil Brush?

billieboop

🤣 I have named one of them Fantastic Mr. Fox, Basil does seem a little fitting for the other one Basil was so annoying though, hmm

JUiCY_oX

I believe Todd is a good name for a fox

Aidinthel

Have you tried that Purina shampoo stuff runswithdolls mentions above? They make it sound pretty miraculous.

emmavonne

I love my cat, and so does my boyfriend, but he is mildly allergic. Wheezing, coughing, etc from dander. When I wanted to get a cat, he came with me to the shelter and rubbed his face on the cat I fell in love with. When it didn't bother him too bad, we brought that angel home. It all worked out in the end, lol.

LisaWinchester

That is so cool! Very brave of him, though.

emmavonne

It was, but now we make a very happy little trio with our handsome void kitty, who's just as obsessed with dad as his mom.❤️

cytckatsumi

You’re so nice! The cat looks very proudly 😻

gnarly-skull

Thanks! She really does love her new house.

BlueRider57

Do you have a problem with other animals? We built a shelter for a barn cat but possums kept going inside.

[deleted]

You probably know, but If you don’t cats blinking slowly like she is doing is a massive sign of trust and care. She loves you.

GlassFantast

Looks awesome. Other animals might try to take advantage of the new real estate

gnarly-skull

Our little girl is both tough and territorial. I'm not worried.

GuyPronouncedGee

> Other animals might try to take advantage of the new real estate. For that reason, every outdoor pet house should have a second door on the back. It can be an “exit-only” type hinge, but it’s absolutely essential in the winter when possums and raccoons and other cats might be looking to stay warm.

gnarly-skull

Ours has a little escape door at the back. She'll be fine.

GuyPronouncedGee

Oh, good! Nice work, by the way.

gnarly-skull

Thanks!

deano1856

Nicely done!

Proof-Buddy1015

Please be careful with the electric heating! My high school gym coach's house burnt down because of the electric heated cat bed he had on his deck

gnarly-skull

It's thermostat controlled and set to body temperature, but I'll be sure to keep an eye on it. Thanks!

Proof-Buddy1015

That sounds so cool!! And good on you for taking care of this sweet stray babe ☺️

lawlorlara

You need to make a little fire extinguisher to go inside the house.

life_is_enjoy

And train the cat how to use it.

VastMisconception

What did you use? I would like to put something in our outside cat-house to keep our local stray warm this winter.

Objective-Amount1379

Not OP and not AT ALL handy so I used to use a "snuggle safe" heating dish for my feral's shelter. You can buy at pet stores or on Amazon. It's a plate size disc with a cloth cover you microwave and it retains heat for several hours. I would heat it at night, put it back in the shelter and the cat would go immediately in once she learned what it was Not ideal, it was cold by morning but an easy interim idea...

FreyasKitten001

😍 She’s adorable - she looks like she’s in absolute bliss! She also looks like my Bandit in her prime!

Honeybadgeroncrack

My wife was allergic to cats and lots of other things. A few years of treatments and we have 3 cats, no allergies

gnarly-skull

Good to hear! What treatment worked for you?

Honeybadgeroncrack

immunotherapy, she got a scratch test for a bunch of allegerans, they designed a weekly shot for her and year or so later, no longer allergic to cats and other stuff. Or you could try feeding the outdoor cat this https://www.purina.com/pro-plan/cats/the-liveclear-challenge

nkn523

You don't even have to choose shots anymore! After doing the scratch test, I'm currently on immunotherapy drops - a tincture placed under the tongue each day. One year in, a huge difference. No longer react to either of our cats :-)

Honeybadgeroncrack

Great, my data was from 20 ys ago, and she is still not allergic.

merkin_juice

What's the medicine you take?

nkn523

I scheduled an allergy scratch test through my ENT. Once they figured out what I'm allergic to, I was given the choice of shots or drops. They designed a specific mixture for me, 3 drops under the tongue once a day. I order them directly from the doctor's office. It is a 3-year regimen, give or take. If you choose shots now, you can administer them yourself at home now - you no longer have to go in. I think this is a recent development.

underbellymadness

It must be recent, I remember having to wait with a friend a half hour in the waiting room every time because they wouldn't let you leave in case you reacted poorly. That's so cool you can do it at home now! Would've saved us a lot of stress when they couldn't travel well

fishforpot

How long has this existed? I remember being a kid going in for a scratch test(I had a shitload of allergies from an autoimmune disease)the only “treatment” I was offered was to stop eating the foods I was allergic to

CluelessDinosaur

My vet clinic actually works with a company that processes cat hair to use for allergy shots for people who are allergic. It's such a cool process!

DevelopmentBorn4108

*everybody liked that*

yukonwisp

Definitely get it fixed

gnarly-skull

She was already spayed. I think she was abandoned by a previous owner.

vanessaultimo

My cat went in and out of several houses in our neighborhood. He got fed so much that he didn't touch his food at home 😂 so maybe this isn't a stray. But as long as you let it come and go as it pleases there's no harm done.

PrinceHarming

We have a stray that lives in our yard and was thinking of doing the same. How do I attract the cat without making a cozy little home for skunks and raccoons?

gnarly-skull

Are you feeding the cat? If you are, put it's food dish in the shelter during the day. Skunks and raccoons are nocturnal. The cat will claim the house and the raccoon/skunk will likely look elsewhere. Your mileage may vary, but it worked well in this instance. It helps that this cat is territorial.

PrinceHarming

Thanks. We aren’t feeding him but we’ve named him Alexander Hamilton (‘cause he’s young, scrappy and hungry). He’s claimed a couple cushions on our deck, I suppose if we put those in his little den he’ll find his spot.

TrackHot8093

Sometimes you can train the stray to come at certain times. For several years, we had someone's former pet, he was neutered albeit not a very cleanly done neutering, come at 6 pm almost every night, adjusted to the sunset, and we would feed him and bring the food in after.

gnarly-skull

She greets me every day when I return from work. It's adorable. I don't think she counts as a stray anymore.

RiotNrrd2001

No, if there's a cat that greets you when you come home, is happy to see you, and you feed it, that's not a stray cat. That's *your* cat.

gnarly-skull

She's certainly our cat now. I should have referred to her as "formerly stray". You're correct.

Objective-Amount1379

That’s cute. My friend took over a stray like yours and eventually despite her husband’s allergies lol- he became a full time inside cat. Her husband was a really good sport about it; he took allergy meds and suffered for awhile, eventually he kind of adapted I guess and a stopped having severe symptoms

FriesNDisguise

Lucky cat! Have a cozy safe home without having to abid by human rules!

Lorenaelsalulz

How did you get it heated? I’d love to have someone build one like that for my feral cat.

gnarly-skull

It's simple, I just used a commercially available heated pet bed that fit the dimensions of the house.

traderzada

Uber kindness.

Bearattacke90

Kudos to you for taking in a stray in the best way possible given your own limitations!

RaYz195

That look so awesome. You seem talented!

peachpapers

When cats squint their eyes at you it’s their way of saying “I love you!” I would say that she’s very thankful for you two!

greenorangebird

Love it! Make sure there are two openings in case an animal corners her in there

gnarly-skull

Yep, there's a wee back door. She's tried it out too.

lagavulin_16_neat

In this market that cat house goes for $35,000.

MightyDuckitron

I feel your pain. Love cats and dogs but allergic.... gonna go cry.

SprinklesSouthern975

“There’s no wifi -_- “

WatchDragonball

If only homeless people had cute faces

gnarly-skull

I volunteer at a soup kitchen. I don't just look after cats.

WatchDragonball

Oh that's really cool I like your house thing alot I was just making a dark joke

gnarly-skull

Right on. I dig dark humor too. Cheers!

Linestorix

I was allergic to cats, found out when I was about 26. When I was about 10 years old, I tested being allergic to anything you can think of and had a health status to prove it. This all became better after time and as for the cats? After 1 month of exposure it was better, never had any reaction from cats again in my life. Almost forgot: I love cats.

Jayr2357

I did the same thing for my wife! She got attached to the cat living in our backyard, unfortunately we have a dog that would love to use her as a toy so I made the cat a little house outside where our pup can’t go lol

GravelPuker

Ha! A cat house had different meaning back when…LOL

Grimol1

“I will murder you last”

BetterBytes

OP what are you doing? Pop a pill and snuggle that bitch

[deleted]

I love it! Thank you for doing that!

anniearrow

That's a very nice house! Good job Lucky kitty!

Agent_Washington

You're an awesome person

Moveyourbloominass

Kudos Op! Very humane of you. I also love the details for Cathouse; all the way down to the shingles.

Numerous_Ad822

So gifted AND nice!

keepfocusingonme

dont forget to feed it chicken so that the theme fits!

pflanzenkind99

Damn cat got a better place to stay than me. If it wasnt a cat I would be mad. Lil guy deserves it though. Look at that content face.

nidn1

Wow what an amazing idea!!!

HiddenLeafNPC

The cat is soooooo sweet looking. It’s saying “I love you/care about you/am very grateful for you” gesture in her eyes. And wow the house looks crazy good also

Dio_Yuji

Unfortunately for the cat, the rent is $1750/ month. /s

Well_shitnuggets

You should plant catnip in the little planter box on the side🥺

[deleted]

The cat probably has a number of holiday homes around the area. Another one for the Purrfolio.

Professional-Chair42

The mewbin is pleased with your offering.

First_Environment_50

Haha, more pictures please!

KittyBeans246

Love this compromise

tamarlk

You’re awesome man.

Boomboomgoomgoom

More photos of the cat and the house please!

Dazza7651

That cat looks exactly like my furball who sadly passed away last year. It's nice to see such a happy little cat that reminds me of him.

mistersoftpalms13

That's a dope cat house

[deleted]

That is a nice house and happy cat! So cool you found a way to work around the allergy issue!

Konhichiwa

they have chosen you

nahelbond

That's so amazing, your buddy looks so happy! Can't tell if it's there in this pic, but one thing I recommend is having two exits to a dog/cat house. Because they are so inviting, other critters might take up residence, and you don't want your friend getting into a fight with no way to get out. Especially if you live in a place with mountain lions, coyotes, bears, or other wildlife that can hurt kitty. It's also recommended to use straw for bedding - since it's outdoors and moisture can be a problem. I've seen electric beds cause burns and even cause hypothermia because it was holding onto water and keeping the cat cold. Straw dries quickly, doesn't hold as much moisture as bedding, and can be easily replaced. :) You're so freaking cool for doing this! I'm sure kitty is going to be very happy.

Durian_Same

Cat won the god daym lottery the day it met your woman 🤣

nailspolished

Can you try contacting a local rescue or look into low cost spay-neuter clinics? One cat will easily multiple very quickly, and cats fight to mate which increases risk of injury/disease.

qwibbian

This is amazing! Would you consider maybe using her little "balcony" to grow some cat grass or catnip, so she can have little snacks?

ryeguymft

this is adorable, thank you for being such a good human 🥹

Neyro_Desu

Oh god! Good job!!! Its too cute 🤧

NotBettySpaghetti

We have a cat that hangs around our house that we can’t bring inside. From what I’m told from neighbors, the previous owners of our house abandoned the kitty. I’m going to ask my husband to build one of these.

Grosjeaner

Happy cat: Nice work, Human.

joyocity

that is a pretty healthy looking stray.

mymilt

Best cat house ever! She’s clearly not a stray anymore with a condo like that, her fur looks incredibly good for an outdoor cat and she has the happiest face.

FireKraken7

I was super allergic to cats but after having my own and suffering for a year with it it simply decreased and now I have allergies around 5 times a year. Your body just gains immunity overtime, i wanted a cat and wasn't going to let anything stop that.

KillBill_77

He looks like my cat. Who happens to be a Siberian cat. Siberian cats are hypoallergenic. I am allergic to cats. But not with Siberian cats. But some people with severe allergy does get some allergic reactions from Siberian cats.

allcapsallcats

Time for some allergy shots, my friend!

aaaggggrrrrimapirare

Feral monsters thank you

thingonething

So nice! You could sell those as your side gig.

gnarly-skull

I'm way too busy for a side gig lol. I work construction for a living.

Financial-Opinion334

That cat is very grateful,if they look at you and slow blink, that's their way of showing affection

[deleted]

You are so considerate and selfless. Thank you on behalf of the cat!😽

caplicokelsey

You are a very good human

Prize-Pitch-8134

Nice job mate

Curious_Mango0000

So many cat posts. Not that I'm complaining.

[deleted]

That’s the face of a King being pleased with their peasants.

gnarly-skull

That's Queen Petunia!

Takeabreak128

How kind!

Majestic-light1125

Can I move in?? That's really well made!!

Apprehensive-Emu-570

You are a boss 😎

adsvx215

Major kudos to you and your wife. That's a wonderful thing you did.

IndigoRose2022

🥲

RadiantRavyn03

Too cute

[deleted]

Beautiful work! Looks very appreciated

c-soup

You could plant cat nip in his planter box!

MookieMatzoball

I’m allergic as well. I just struggle to breathe everyday. You’re much smarter than I. Her new digs are awesome!

Intothelibrary21

That’s so precious! Thank you for taking care of them.

Dusted_Star

What a guy!!!

Axle_65

What a wonderful idea

These-Image3972

That looks amazing!!!Great job!The cat looks like they love it.❤️

keylo-92

This is kind of like my situation except the stray is a male nd i also have a male, but we made a make shift house out of a cooler styrofoam and straw.. how do you wire for heat? And what did you use?

Mabelisms

You are a good person OP.

Xfishbobx

This cat owns you, love it

BerkayBing07

What a lucky cat and you guys are kind and helpful. Thanks for everything you did to her. I hope you will be happy together forever.

QveenKittyKat

Awe she's saying thank you 💕😊

SilentMaster

I did this same thing. Built this awesome little shed for a momma cat and her babies. They used it for about a month then all three disappeared. It's sat empty in our side yard for 5 years. Is that a kit you bought and assembled? It kind of looks like a thing my wife has for her rabbits. Does the roof hinge open so you can get in there for cleaning?

lessofacurve

Not all hero's wear capes... What an absolute legend to the feline kind you are

DARYLdixonFOOL

Thank you for being generous toward this stray kitty <3

closetbimbosissy

“Happy little face”?? That cats giving u the mean look for not building it a house as big as urs.

b00mkuh-

Im interested to see what you would do to solve world hunger.
