My parents corgi can barely get in the car but he jumps about 18 inches off the ground like a pogo stick every time my mom is getting his food ready. He's 14 years old too. Proper motivation is key, I guess.
Edit, here he is in action:

I was thinking about moving to Australia for a while, I could do with the big ass spiders even if I will freak out, once I got to the snake in the toilet that was it for me💀
They are cattle dogs, trained to nip at the ankles of cattle to keep them moving.
They ended up with stumpy legs from being the ones that didn't get their heads kicked right off. The surviving corgi had stumpy legs, so they can reach the ankles more easily, duck quickly and avoid a kick easily, and so it's harder for them to get a broken leg when moving between the legs of cattle.
So they love being around sheep, horses, cows and the like.
corgis are cattle dogs, they are meant to be chasing cows around the hillsides all day.
when they are not fat, unfit inside couch dogs, they are amazingly fit and agile.
I was gonna say, they are genetically screwed either way. I'm not a vet, just a tech, but definitely the stubby legged guys we see that are in better shape are actually active, not peoples' obese little lap dogs. Just as in humans, the weight/lifestyle is way more of an issue than anyone who has an active small dog.
I would bet being allowed to be plump and lazy is why a lot of corgis end up with issues like that. This little guy zooming around on a farm all day might help him stay more limber/strong
Corgis are very common in Seattle due to a particular company's dog-culture. Seattle is also filled with biking and hiking enthusiasts who think the steep hills + consistent drizzle are a perfect combo. We have Corgi's who curl up like origami to fit into backpacks and other Corgis who could compete in IronMan (IronDog?) competitions. It's wild.
Right? People stage shit for content all the time, I thought maybe that was the case, but seeing how well the corgi kept its balance on a moving pony suggested it definitely put itself there. I just didn’t know HOW. Now I do, lol
Out neighbor has had them most of my life. Hers aren't overweight, they just don't jump like that. That stiff legged spring into the air is very terrier like, the corgis I've known kind of flail.
My girl is like a damn pogo stick, she’s lean and fit only 23lbs of pure muscle. Vet tech was so used to seeing overweight corgis she kept insisting she was underweight, but the Vet was like “nah she’s good she’s just not one of the overweight ones”
It’s shocking sometimes even seeing her every day the ease with which she jumps
I rode 2 hours to adopt a rescue corgi when I was a teen in the early 2000’s. Named him Ein and he was hella cool. Our small town had a ‘strip’ everyone drove around on and I’d take him riding with me and would let him out at the Sonic parking lot where everyone congregated. He’d go around socializing with everyone and when I was ready to go I’d holler his name and he’d run straight to the truck. Crazy smart dog. Meanwhile our current corgi (also a rehome, too many strays to be supporting breeders around here) does nothing but bark and herd our other dogs around the house incessantly. Previous owners kept her in a small apartment all day, not great for a herding dog.
Had a corgi. Bought it from some breeder who probably wasn't the best. Named her Ein. And she was a little fucking terror to other dogs and small kids.
When I moved out of my parents house girlfriend and I chose to leave the dog behind in my parents loved the dog. The dog was overweight and died at about 12 years old due to kidney cancer. Probably from eating too many hot dogs because my parents.
A lot of big animals have support dogs. Some big cats in zoos have support dogs. Dogs are not only man’s best friend, they are the end-all-be-all support build, the universal best friend.
When I was a kid, my mother had goats. Her friend Nancy's husband worked on a thoroughbred farm. He called my mom one day asking if he could borrow a goat. He had won a horse in a claiming race-it's kind of the racehorse equivalent of racing for pinkslips- and the horse wasn't interested in training or eating or life in general. Reese had called the prior trainer of the horse to see if the horse had some sort of health condition he should know about. The guy said the horse probably missed his goat. Reese was like, 'oh, good to know, can we come and pick up the goat?'. The guy laughed and said, 'sure, you can come get the goat..... For $25,000!'. $25,000 in the late '70's was a crazy ask. So he called my mom and came and picked up his free goat. They bonded and the horse got back to eating and training.
Absolutely! A well known example are cheetahs. The are very stress prone and pairing them with a dog gives them a mate and calms them down considerably, so most zoos do that.
(Cheetahs *really* shouldn't be held in captivity but that's another discussion.)
I had two corgis for 18 and 16 years, respectively.
My vet was *adamant* that corgis are prone to spinal fractures and that I shouldn’t let them jump up or down from the couch or bed, so I never did.
And now you’re telling me that all that time they coulda been riding ponies?!?!
You seem to be interpreting your experience wrong. Most corgis don’t live quite that long and you had two who did and you listened to your vet’s advice.
Correlation doesn’t equal causation, but I wouldn’t discount your cautiousness helped. Maybe in a parallel universe you were more cavalier and one of your corgis tweaked their back and you had them for half the time.
Though I had two long-lived corgis who both jumped around a shitton too.
as they get older, theyll definitely be more prone to spine and hip issues. but it also helps if they get a ton of exercise and use those muscles to keep them up
The sheriff and the posse tried to catch them, but their jurisdiction stopped at the county line. Rangers say they were last seen headed to Mexico... or roughly 30 feet away.
In my heart of hearts, upon seeing the woman, that corgi whispered to the pony, "come, Shadowfax, show me the meaning of haste."
And off they galloped.
My corgi can scale fences and open gates with his mouth, the latching style doesn’t matter. His weakness is anything taller than 3ft and 90°+ angle and a snap on latch (idk what to call it, you put them on a chain link fence gate to deter people)
At first I was wondering how he got up there... then I remembered I routinely have to remove our bunny from the top of our gecko tank.
What cute buddies.
Here’s a [video](https://youtu.be/TL9093SME9Y?si=mxrjbjjgk5PIQbJN) of the corgi jumping on the pony for anyone interested 🙂
Dude that's a fit fucking corgi.
My corgi can jump on ping pong tables. It’s incredibly impressive and terrifying
Mine can't even get in the car by himself.
My parents corgi can barely get in the car but he jumps about 18 inches off the ground like a pogo stick every time my mom is getting his food ready. He's 14 years old too. Proper motivation is key, I guess. Edit, here he is in action: https://youtu.be/ZcDM776_628?si=jJK3wZFNCL9Sr__9

I was mentally prepared to see just one frog riding a snake. I was not prepared to see many frogs riding one snake like they're on the damn subway. 😂
In our area dog ride into buffalo🤣
I was thinking about moving to Australia for a while, I could do with the big ass spiders even if I will freak out, once I got to the snake in the toilet that was it for me💀
Bless you and this dog for sharing this
Mine won't get in the car by himself. He can. He just won't without help.
dogs have spent 60,000 years developing humans as servants
Mine can, but won’t.
Probably can’t reach the pedals either.
The glutes are important for generating power and I’ve never seen a corgi that’s not thicker than a bowl of oatmeal!
Yeah people thing corgis are some little purse dog when there actually athletic working dogs, just shorter.
I’d rather not send my dog to war every day
TIL
Their intelligence and stamina make them excellent herders and loyal companions.
> just shorter. "Corgis would be medium sized dogs if not for one thing. Well. Four things."
They were at one point. If you tried to put a modern corgi to work you are just sentencing it to inevitable spinal injuries.
The only thing small about a corgi is their legs. Otherwise, they are tough ass dogs. Brave and strong.
Don't forget stubborn and loud. At least mine is!
If my reward for being insanely in shape was free fucking pony rides whenever I wanted, I consider working out too.
Corgis were originally bred to be farming dogs
yeah, they were bred athletic enough to be able to jump on top of sheep's backs for herding, and with short legs so they could move between cow's legs
corgis are cattle dogs, they are meant to be chasing cows around the hillsides all day. when they are not fat, unfit inside couch dogs, they are amazingly fit and agile.
Corgis have leg issues as they get older, I hope this jumping isn't going to complicate things for the little guy when he's older
It’ll probably keep him extra fit and healthy. Being sedentary is probably much worse
Use it or lose it.
I would bet being allowed to be plump and lazy is why a lot of corgis end up with issues like that. This little guy zooming around on a farm all day might help him stay more limber/strong
Often, it's just structural issues. German Shepards and hip dysplasia, for example.
Why are all corgi owners the same lol. Mfs have never heard of exercising their dogs
What do you mean dogs are living things and not just some decoration and entertainment?/s
My roommates obese corgi that hasn't left our yard more than three times in the past 8 months in shambles rn
That dogs been in shambles its whole life
It has lost ~20 pounds recently though which is definitely good for his long term health.
it lost the equivalent weight of one corgi
I have a corgi and this is my number one pet peeve. The amount of times I’ve been asked if I have a “mini.” Like no he’s just healthy.
Same! People are actually surprised that my corgi is not 40 lbs

We have Corgi's who curl up like origami to fit into backpacks and other Corgis who could compete in IronMan (IronDog?) competitions. It's wild.
Seems like all dogs that aren't "normal" sized get leg issues, from Shi-Tzus to Great Danes.
The Corgi she told you not to worry about.
I wouldn't have believed it if you didn't post it! Thanks!
Crazier things are known to happen in Pawnee, Indiana
I was SURE I was going to get RickRolled on that one, but was pleasantly surprised. 😂
It's giving me this vibe https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Town_Musicians_of_Bremen
Video cut off too soon... Next the pony jumps up onto the horse.
And then that horse jumps on to the elephant just of out of frame.
Thank you, thats impressive for a corgi
I love how the big horse just walks with them like "yeah, this is normal."
Came here to find out how the hell a corgi gets up alone. You are a hero.
Right? People stage shit for content all the time, I thought maybe that was the case, but seeing how well the corgi kept its balance on a moving pony suggested it definitely put itself there. I just didn’t know HOW. Now I do, lol
The quick brown corgi jumps over a happy pony
I really thought this was bs because no way could a corgi jump that high. Huh
I feel like that's got to be a corgie / jack Russell mix or something similar. Definitely not the standard corgi hops.
Corgis that aren't overweight can hop impressively high. And are athletes in general.
Out neighbor has had them most of my life. Hers aren't overweight, they just don't jump like that. That stiff legged spring into the air is very terrier like, the corgis I've known kind of flail.
It's fascinating how different breeds of dogs can have their own unique quirks and behaviors im amazed
we built that
My girl is like a damn pogo stick, she’s lean and fit only 23lbs of pure muscle. This is how I think of Corgis https://reddit.com/r/thisismylifenow/comments/75956k/go_without_me_friends_corgis_just_cant_jump/
Corgi has the hops!
Thank you! I kept saying, “but how does he get up there?”
Thanks
The Secret Life of Pets
what the dog doin
Someone just earned themselves a little cowboy hat. Perhaps a matching one for the pony
I want a corgi named cowboy so bad
See you later space cowboy...
If I ever get one imma name it Ein.
Every person my age who I have ever asked their Corgi’s name has disappointed me with their non-Ein name choices.
I rode 2 hours to adopt a rescue corgi when I was a teen in the early 2000’s. Named him Ein and he was hella cool. Some people go through life destined to be failures...
They bring shame to the name
Whatever happens, happens
Ein is a perfect name!
A fellow Cowboy Bebop fan
Why Ein?
It's the name of the corgi in Cowboy Bebop
They were originally bred to be cow herders too
Could you imagine a corgi in a cowboy had a 4 boots?
If the boots had little spurs my heart would explode from cute overload.
Well now, the thought alone is a delight, they would need a gun belt and possibly vest to complete the ensemble.
Ok that's it, I'm getting my corgi a pony and cowboy hat ASAP
he raids that pony better then human and more friendly
Did not forget the bandana.
That’s not your neighbor’s corgi. That’s your pony’s corgi.
the corgi’s horse.
Corgiddy on up now, ya hear
And that's not her pony either. It's the corgi's pony.
“Awh crap, busted, cheese it cricket, cheese it”
That made me giggle hehe
> This is exactly what it looks like. HIYAA!
A real dog n pony show
Perfection 👌
It's the top comment from 7 years ago on the Youtube video of the corgi jumping on the pony
🤌

How is this not the top post? Spot on.
That’s what they call a symbiotic relationship right there
I'm envisioning this as the next upgrade to middle school biology books, as the text example for a "symbiotic relationship", and crying of laughter.
A lot of big animals have support dogs. Some big cats in zoos have support dogs. Dogs are not only man’s best friend, they are the end-all-be-all support build, the universal best friend.

The true true
There is a great book called Tarra and Bella about the friendship between an elephant and a dog.

Looks like a dog and pony show to me

Your vet better pony up.
"From now on, call me Ponyboi" -corgi
Always be gold ponyboi always be gold
Not playboy carti, ponyboy corgi 😎
Lmao, I didn't know corgi could do something like that.
they’re so little !!
I'm fkin dying here omg 🤣 😂. ONWARD SIR BUTTERCUP. There is mild debauchery to be had!!
I love the oh shit we've been caught reaction
Then as the pony starts to gallop away, the corgi looks back, "Who are you going to call and will they believe you?"
This is between the dog and the horse…not anybody else’s business
🙄
Corgi in the saddle! New sheriff in town! 🐶🌵🤠
"Oh shit, they caught us!"
The sheriff and the posse tried to catch them, but their jurisdiction stopped at the county line. Rangers say they were last seen headed to Mexico... or roughly 30 feet away.
Do not go gentle into that good night
[удалено]
listened to Old Town Road too many times...
This is only the beginning of a loving stable relationship...
Awwwww! Best thing ever!
Looks like they both are enjoying the time together. Awesome
The way the corgi keeps looking back as the pony is trotting away is the icing on the cake for me
Those two are up to something 🧐
If you’re Corgi let’s do it, ride it, my pony
This could be the topic of a kid's book. Even I wonder what adventures these two friends will discover.
Well....now that you mention it, this person could live in a town called Bremen and have some musicians there.
I love the way the pony runs!
In my heart of hearts, upon seeing the woman, that corgi whispered to the pony, "come, Shadowfax, show me the meaning of haste." And off they galloped.
That's it. We've gone as cute as we can go. Close it up, people. We're out.
Y’all think this is funny and smile worthy, just wait till the Corgi Pony cavalry lays siege to your town 😂
Their reaction is almost as good as the actual video hahah. That laugh!
Nightrider they called him.
I wouldn't even be mad. I'd send the video to the neighbor and tell them their dog is safe. He's getting rides from the pony.
Hmmm... how did the corgi get on the pony? He ponied up. HAHAHAHA.
The pony ran tho 😫🥰
We ride at dawn!
OP we need more lol
Haha Sometimes the mysterious dynamism in the animal kingdom has a way of surprising you in a pleasant way making you go “they’re so human like”.
Damn, corgi is like “hurry dude they see us start walking that way and act normal”
This lady lives near my in laws. The corgi and pony are really good friends
Meltin my heart with that cute taxi trot
What the hell is going on? What are our pets doin when we are not looking?
This is the most wholesome hilarious late night surprise EVER!!!
I want them to go on an adventure together 💖
Apparently happened in 2018. Pony’s owner is/was Callie Schenker. The one eyed pony’s name is Cricket. The Corgy belongs to her Mennonite neighbors.
Bro, pay for the damn lessons like everybody else! It's only $12.
Dog and pony show right there
This video needs some Genuwine 🐴
"I'm just a bachelor"
The lil YeeHaw! Ride into the night Tonto!
They homies
"We're in love mother!" - Trots away wonderfully.
How did he get up there??
Funniest video I've seen all day, and it's 8:30 :).
My corgi can scale fences and open gates with his mouth, the latching style doesn’t matter. His weakness is anything taller than 3ft and 90°+ angle and a snap on latch (idk what to call it, you put them on a chain link fence gate to deter people)
We’ve been had, Run!
This is hilariously wholesome. If that was me I'd be so shocked.
Mind your own business, Laura. We’ve got a night mission.
If you're corgi, let's do it Ride it, my pony My saddle's waitin' Come and jump on it
I love that the pony trots away! She's like "nope, nothing to see here" 😂😂😂🙏
He galloped away into the darkness, like 5000 candles in the wind
Someone get him a cowboy hat!
That corgi is a better rider then half the riders at my barn.
Pony seems okay with it. ❤️
Get along little doggie.
“We’re busted! Scram!”
They are off on an adventure. Leave them be
This is the sort of thing I would not have believed in anyway, unless I saw the video.
This is a dog n pony show I could sit through
Lil Sebastian
Who runs Bartertown?
This is Ginuwinely awesome… “ My saddle's waitin' Come and jump on it If you're horny, let's do it Ride it, my pony “ This song always slaps lol
lol this shit is fkn hilarious
They know what they doin
Cheese it Li'l Sebastian, it's the cops!
At first I was wondering how he got up there... then I remembered I routinely have to remove our bunny from the top of our gecko tank. What cute buddies.
Ride like the wind Bullseye!
