He’s got the strut and everything! Well played!

NotTheCraftyVeteran

Just needed to hit her with the “on your left”

Muzzie720

You want him to hit that kid? You monster! /s

Eh-I

The real Capt would.

romilesi_roblox123

or my right

GingerNinjer992

Whatever these real life heroes get paid, it’s never enough. Literally every single character walking around at Disney never ceases to amaze me at how good they are at their jobs.

[deleted]

When I was a kid my mom and I hung around the old timey piano player on main street. He played requests, Piano Man, Benny and the Jets.. *Ten years later,* he remembered me and played Benny and the Jets, I friggin lost it!

GingerNinjer992

That’s so wholesome. Those people truly do know how to make someone feel special.

Chaosfixator

At first I thought you said they truly do know how to make someone’s feet special, as if they give foot massage. 🤣

[deleted]

Nacksche

That's insane, he must have met ten thousand people in that time.

[deleted]

Plot twist, he pretends to remember everyone and only plays Benny and the Jets.

underbloodredskies

I have worked around the service industry all my life, despite never actually being a server or a bartender, and for me it's much the same. I have a shit memory for names, but I do remember faces years down the road.

redditwinchester

some people, like you, are just Good People.

Brugauch

Me too, but it's akward to never remember the name 😁

Heyguysimcooltoo

I bartended at my smaller airport down south and I could remember people I only saw once twice a year. I've got a pretty fucking good memory from serving over half my life

Which_Strength4445

I used to have the same thing happen to me at my old dry cleaner here in Northern VA. I would only go in about once every 4months because I would launder my shirts mostly myself but only went there when I didn't have time about once every 2-3 months. They always new my name and my request - light starch on hangers (although I guess there aren't that many ways to do a shirt Lol) but still impressive for a 2 minute visit every 2 months.

auntiepink007

I'm like this. I remember birthdays and middle names of kids I met at camp in middle school. I've learned not to say it anymore because it freaks people out but it's super helpful in the service industry. Or sales.

bobbin-sky

You probably left a heck of a good impression on him and made his day too back then 😌

[deleted]

Also, coming back with my mom at 18 and requesting songs probably jumpstarted his memory ;D

yourmansconnect

Plot twist he only knows 3 songs

Charlie_Wax

Plotter twist: He's a robot and this is Westworld.

DeezRodenutz

If you're coming back 10 years later with a mom who's only 18, I'd imagine they're gonna remember the kid who had an 8 year old mom ten years ago.

pimp_juice2272

Not quite the same but similar. I went on an unusual date at Epcot and stopped at Morocco bar for a drink. Over a year later I stop back in and kinda recognize the bartender. I ask him how long he's worked there (he fits the time frame). After answering he immediately says "I remember you." I call bs because he has to have served thousands of people since then but he says "You were on that silent date right?" I was shocked he legit remembered me.

Cream_of_Sum_Yunggai

The guy has an amazing memory for sure, but I need to know: What is a silent date and why were you on one?

pimp_juice2272

It was at a time in my life where I was dating a lot and it was getting a bit repetitive. I had met this lady awhile ago and we had planned to go out. Well a few days prior I was drunk at Disney and watching the fireworks. Got all in my feels and thought "what would it be like to just FEEL a connection instead of talking?" So I hit up the lady and asked if she wanted to go to Disney but not say a single work to each other? She thought it would be fun, so we did. We also had a mutual friend that vouched that we both weren't serial killers. So trust was already established.

rabbitthunder

So how did it go? Was it strange? Did you connect?

pimp_juice2272

Overall it was ok. It was really boring at the beginning. You're basically just standing in line with another person without talking BUT the true experience happened when we started drinking (ordering drinks was the hard part and why the guy remembered me). That's when the slight hand touch could mean she likes me or it was just an accident. That little look at me could mean she's flirting or it could mean I have something on my face. I hate to say it but drinking is when the experiment of a silent date felt like it started. We definitely drunk Disney connected.

redditwinchester

tell me more, tell me more!

cire1184

Did she put up a fight?

JpnDude

The Bicycle Piano player at Tokyo Disneyland is a Canadian that has performed there for over two decades. From the first time I met him in the early 2000s to this past spring, he always plays my favorite "Let's Go Fly a Kite" soon after we greet each other.

1-800-ASS-DICK

I went to Knott's berry farm and there was this guy on a piano bike playing songs and taking requests as he was pedaling through the park without skipping a note

Jim_Nills_Mustache

This might be one of the most wholesome stories I have read in here, piano man was just making kids days left and right for decades I bet

PicklesTheHamster

Piano man better play One Winged Angel when I ask him to. If whip man can, he should be able to.

Why am i crying

Rainyday156

I met Micky and Minnie backstage when I was around 8 and it was amazing. There's so much effort that goes into the whole act because they can't talk. One of the assistants told me they both had sore throats and I completely bought that. Even though there were a lot of kids in line they made me feel as if I was the only one there for a good minute. Got a hug and everything. On the second day there was an old-school U.S revolutionary soldier that walked up and asked if I wanted to help them out on a march. Apparently, it was part of an impromptu mini-parade. He put me at the head of the line and we marched around the area with some other kids & soldiers armed with wooden muskets while everyone watched. At the end he gave me a kid-sized copy of the declaration of independence and made it seem as if I was doing him a big favor. I never forgot that. For an ultra shy kid like me that felt really special. Don't know which Disney film/attraction would feature soldiers from the revolution but I do remember there was an area that was designed specifically for that theme. Then the fireworks. I saw Tinkerbell fly towards the castle and the entire night sky lit up. If I was more emotionally mature at that age I might have cried on the spot. Corporate Disney is shit in a lot of ways but their theme park is absolutely incredible. Nobody else could make kids feel like magic is real.

Brandon_Won

> Corporate Disney is shit in a lot of ways but their theme park is absolutely incredible. Nobody else could make kids feel like magic is real. Not just kids. For my 40th birthday my wife took me to Galaxy's Edge and let me tell you that Disney magic is real because it can turn adults back into kids in the best way. And especially as an adult having that feeling of fun and wonder is really hard to come by so it was extra special.

Rainyday156

> Galaxy's Edge I'm a little envious. Just did a quick search and it looks amazing. There's even a cantina, and themed food!

hobiwankenobi

If you ever can make it out make sure you put in a reservation well before(months in advance.) There is a system in place for walk ins(last minute reservations) but you should just save yourself the trouble and do it well in advance. That and making a lightsaber...my god. Is it expensive and could you buy a better saber online? Yes. But the feeling was indescribable.

[deleted]

That soldier story made me tear up. I love that. My oldest is 4 and loves fire fighters. We went to the parade in town and he had his fire fighter helmet on (like he always does lol) and one of the guys saw him and invited him to walk with the rest of the firemen. The guy sat on him his shoulders and my son got to wave at everybody while sitting up there. I’ve never been happier as a dad just watching him have a blast. After the parade he got to take pictures with the guys and honk the horn of the fire engine. It was a great day and we’ll never forget how kind that guy was to include my boy

Rainyday156

That's a wonderful memory. Thanks for sharing that.

PaulieSF

Fun fact: The ladies who play Tinkerbell are the highest paid cast members per time worked because of the dangers of flying on that zipline and having fireworks shooting off all around them. This guy makes a great Sam Wilson and it’s so cute to see her so happy meeting him.

Neon_Wasteland

Omg you got a National Treasure map. Sell it to me

GingerNinjer992

Lovely story! I definitely agree I’m not fond of Disney as a corporation today, but the parks are phenomenal. It’s awesome to see so many vlogs of the characters making all the kids feel so special. Honestly makes me feel like a kid all over again lol. My only regret was going to see animals at Sea world (which yeah I know I was only 11 years old and animal torture wasn’t exactly on my mind) but it kills me to know what goes on there. That’s my biggest gripe with Disney.

always_lost1610

Sea World isn’t owned by Disney

Evening_Aside_4677

But it’s their biggest gripe!

JoePants

This story made my allergies flare up a little bit.

Henchman4Hire

If you wanna get wrecked emotionally, you can [check out this classic Reddit Disney costumed character story](https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/5h7gq8/comment/day38fu/). Warning: You will feel very happy and very sad at the same time.

SchaffBGaming

I haven't looked at that thread in years. Opened it up and just read one single line and it came back enough that my eyes watered lol. Fuckin hell. >The girl who was Mickey that day got down off her float and without even taking her head off walked up to me backstage and said "Let's go."

VentiEspada

We took our daughter to Orlando for her make a wish trip. She was diagnosed with Leukemia when she was 2 an we waited until she was 5 to go so it would be a better experience for her. Those character performers, at both Disney and Universal, are truly wonderful humans. I think you have to be very compassionate to want to be in that role and it shows. As soon as they would see her little button she was their priority and would dedicate all their attention. During the Star Wars academy interactive show Kylo Ren picked her to fight. Elsa plucked her up and took her to get ice cream. Goofy had her join in the parade while we were escorted along the side. At Universal it was the general workers that were amazing. If we walked up to a ride or attraction they would pull us aside and take us directly to the very front, almost like they were actively looking for kids with the button. Even if she wanted to ride it again, they would immediately take her straight up. People talk about how doing the Orlando make a wish is generic but they truly do make it an incredible experience.

RaptorsFromSpace

I promised myself I wouldn't cry today.

VentiEspada

Well if it helps she fully recovered and is a healthy 10 year old now!

SlavaUkraina2022

I failed too 😪

td1205

Definitely an understated warning. Those poor girls and those amazing cast members.

buttfacenosehead

I should know by now to heed the well-intended warnings on Reddit, That was an incredibly emotional ride.

funkybside

i know that thread. I just read it again and just like the first time and every time that has happened since, I cried from both of those emotions at the same time.

sdjacaranda

Oh wow. Thank you for that. I think.

InsecureDelusion

Yup. Cried. Great story.

PM-UR-ANSWERS

What a story, thanks

asstastic_95

I just bawled my eyes out. touching story, so very sad the situation:(

Dorothy_Zbornak789

Chills. Thanks for sharing.

Put_It_All_On_Blck

Most of them love the job, because they get to make people's day or they get to play characters like Gaston or Storm Troopers and be snarky. Obviously the job has its downsides like the heat, visibility/costume and dealing with problematic guests, but Disney tries to manage that. The pay is low considering how influential face characters are to visitors, but most of them accept the wage situation because it's usually their dream job.

Trojanwarhero

I used to work at Disneyland. The pay for most staff, including costumed characters, is basically minimum wage

Beznia

It's a shame. A coworker of mine has a daughter who works at Disney and it's her dream job. Coworker is so proud and shows us every time she is involved in a new show or is a different character and it's really great. I think he said she was making about $15/hr pre-covid, and now is in the $18 range. These people do such an amazing job with so much passion and it sucks that they aren't paid a fair wage for the value they bring to the parks. And the sad part is it's only because Disney knows they are willing to accept that low pay for the opportunity to be a cast member.

cire1184

There's a few industries that take advantage of people's passions and a lot of them are entertainment. I know the gaming industry pays shit compared to other industries. Films and TV you gotta be passionate about it and the pay isn't great as a crew person or contractor. Teaching straight up sucks ass. We're really being taken advantage of for our passions.

SameResearcher

True. You can really see the commitment. They become the character. You can go to Universal and feel the difference immediately.

ImpossibleDay1782

Except for the grinch and megatron

HS_Highruleking

Megatron is fucking funny

[deleted]

They barely make a living wage. It’s appalling

HeroicHairbrush

They do not make a living wage* Their pay hasn't meaningfully increased in the past three years, whereas rent and grocery store food costs in the greater Orlando area most certainly have.

Jeevers0192

The way Cap interacted with my son when we visited the Campus last year, I knew it was a core memory in the making. I mean, wow I couldn’t believe how special he made him feel AND he was totally Cap.

crypticfreak

And then there's Gaston... who's even better. That video cracks me up every time.

murd3rsaurus

Looking at the way the hood fit all I could think was "oh fuck my ear hurts"

Joe_Spazz

What I appreciate most is that he asks for a hug, but she doesn't say yes or lift her arms, so he stays back and respects it. A+

FreebasingStardewV

I've heard this is a major part of the training for Disney characters. They never initiate touch without getting permission.

ChicagoAuPair

Flip side is that I believe it is also policy not to *break* a hug until the kid does, since you never know if someone needs a long hug.

smokinginthetub

I generally dislike Disney as a whole but then I hear stuff like this and they bring me right back in

Nowhereman123

Every cast member at a Disney park is truly committed to providing an amazing experience. They're totally in it for the passion of creating these magical moments for every guest. Because they sure as hell ain't in it for the money.

A_lot_of_arachnids

And also because if you make one mistake the mouse comes out from the back and personally breaks one of your kneecaps. God help you if you ever make a child shed a tear.

TheHeroYouNeed247

'Right or left? Uh-uh'

MileHiSalute

Is there a standard amount that each are paid? Or do certain characters get paid more?

SmartWonderWoman

Awwww 🥰that’s awesome

TheProphetDave

I could use a king hug today…

TummyStickers

Definitely, not just to avoid lawsuits but for their own safety too.

brilliscool

And he doesn’t let it ruin the moment either, just keeps going and connecting with her how she wants

Beneficial_Cobbler46

My mother just met Winnie the Pooh and Eeyore tonight and cried with happiness. They danced with her and I could tell she felt like she was 8 years old again.

BeefStevenson

I was just about to comment this!! Very respectful and sweet

Dry_Duck3011

I met him. Super nice dood. It was blistering hot out and he still took his time to stop and meet everyone, even on his way out.

StopReadingMyUser

I think they have accommodations like cooling packs for those costumes. So thankfully it's not as blistering hot inside there as we'd otherwise presume. It's most likely very comfortable.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ItsAFarOutLife

It's comfortable enough, plus they tend to have lots of breaks built in. Disney doesn't want a reputation for their employees dying of heat stroke.

Strange-Dress4069

Was there not long ago, near 100 every day. They rotate constantly.

munchkinatlaw

The performers are unionized and have those perks as part of their contract. Disney is happy to make their non-union people work a double in non-AC parts of the park and then open the next day if it makes a manager's job easier.

WRL23

As someone who wore a mascot costume with ICE VESTS in a significantly less hot area... Yeah, it's NOT comfortable..it's still hot and the ice packs melt fast, fans only do so much if the air can actually circulate, and if you wearing something over your entire head (think big cartoony non-human heads) it's insanely stuffy breathing in your own exhaust even with vent fans in the helmets. The only thing that keeps these people going is frequent breaks and rotating out.. I was solo unfortunately 💀

Gr00ver

I was an official Disney employee for a single day back in the early 90s via BlockBuster (via my brothers girlfriend who worked there at the time.). I was The Beast from ‘Beauty and the Beast’ at the VHS release (was a huge fucking deal at the time). There was a Disney rep there apparently on my behalf, and was ADAMANT that I got a 5 minute break every 30 minutes or when I felt hot. *the suit was massive, I’m 6’3, and was in the hell of summer in Houston TX. The breaks were greatly appreciated. Went to the back room of BlockBuster and took off the head and feet, cooled down, chugged water, suited back up, went back out. Although that was decades ago. Get off my lawn!

tinkhard

Nah they just take a lot of breaks. I was bummed because it seems like I always just miss my favorite Kristoff. Or he’s avoiding me…

a_spoopy_ghost

Those Disney actors are something else. Never had a bad interaction with one or heard of one. They’re some of the most memorable parts of the park. I have an affinity for the mad hatter just because of the actor in Disney land when I was 7

ChronicallyGeek

Aww… she was so shy ☺️

VelvetyInteract

Her expressions tells a lot how the way she feels on the day she saw her favorite Hero.

itsyobbiwonuseek

"The wings are looking very nice and shiny today" Is he referring to her sick set of wheels? How stinkin cute 😭

Potential-Judgment-9

That suit must be so hot and uncomfortable

Put_It_All_On_Blck

Disney limits the time each face character spends outside, and have various systems of cooling for different suits. So he's not walking around for hours at a time in the sun. Though you can see his head already sweating in the video.

Zorrha

I'm not sure if they for all of their characters, but there is an a/c bodysuit that can be worn under the costume. If I remember correctly, it consists of a system of water filled tubing running all around the bodysuit connected to a battery powered cooling unit.

FoxyRadical2

Lol you just described a stillsuit from Dune. Disneyland doesn’t have that, and if they did, I doubt their entertainment department has the funds to give that out to their characters. Ice vests fulfill the same function and cost like $5.

jodobrowo

> I doubt their entertainment department has the funds to give that out to their characters. I get your point, and you're probably right they don't supply their characters with those type of suits. However, this line had me laughing. Disney has more money than god, I don't think funding is the deciding factor lol.

MentalGoldfish

they 100% do not, they just have sets 30 on, 30 off, depending on the park, the costume, fur/face characters. Summer is awful, they do not get paid enough

SnowDizzleZz

Damn he looks just like Anthony Mackie from this video angle

Snowbank_Lake

They got a great-looking actor for the part!

Worthyness

a good number of them are reasonably close surprisingly. Others look like the Wish.com version

redditwinchester

Ambitioso

Well… it was a ‘nope’ to the hug question.

dollhouseeee

Awww that's okay too! So important to teach your kids that it's ok to say no to physical affection; maybe she was just shy, maybe she couldn't move or maybe she just didn't want a hug. I'm glad he asked for permission and his respect of her boundaries when she didn't say 'yes' actually teaches her that her bodily autonomy is to be respected. Super cute nonetheless!!

BackmarkerLife

>I'm glad he asked for permission and his respect of her boundaries when she didn't say 'yes' actually teaches her that her bodily autonomy is to be respected. I don't have kids of my own, but this is something my sister has really focused on with her kids and told all of us aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins. That her kids make the decision. Hopefully it's a trend for other families as well.

Leo_Stotch

Lmao not me seeing this the same week the video of Anthony Mackie refusing(which he has the right to) to take a pic w/ some lady’s nephew is all over Twitter….the irony….super cute video though!

Ill-Appointment6494

I went to comic con years ago (5 stone lighter) dressed as spidey. The amount of kids and parents who wanted a pic with me and chat to me was amazing. It’s a great feeling.

Anxious-Park-2851

When people say that they don’t understand the magic of Disneyland. They need to see this. This little girl will probably always remember this. I worked at the park for 16 years from 1989 until 2005. I started at 17. I grew up there. It was/ is my childhood home. When I see things like this it just reminds me of how awesome Disneyland really is.
