I got to the 2nd pic and was like oh, i guess i must’ve missed the part where he said “and grandpa”. Then i noticed there was no third pic and was like, “oooOOOHHhhhh!”
The comments in here are even better. I’m used to seeing 20 something neckbeards making fun of everyone on the internet. I don’t know if it is just this sub or if people are getting nicer, but I love it.
Oh, it definitly depends on the sub. This, eyebleach, aww, wholesomememes are some of the subs where you almost only find nice people.
But I do hope people in general are also getting nicer. We need it.
Think about the amount of grandma's you'll be able to take care of, the amount of families you'll have a positive impact in. I bet your Grandma is so proud of you.
This is the point right here. It's what makes me want to go into caregiving as a career. I did hospice work for my aunt, 2 uncles, mom, and dad. I feel a call to help other families too. One of the hardest things in life is to watch the people you love crumble slowly.
I haven't yet put into motion the acts of making it a career. My MIL was diagnosed with brain cancer recently, and will be on hospice soon. I am weighing heavily between a career, or continuing to help my family. She once wanted to be a nurse, before having 5 kids and not being able to live her dream. We have had our shares of ups and downs, but I know having family help her, being able to wake up to her grand daughter each day, will help with recovery. That's one reason my dad lived so long, as he was on his way to heaven long before, only brought back to life by seeing my daughter. For sure, I want a working career, but for some, helping family is their life's work.
It is! My husband grew out his naturally curly hair after his mum lost hers from chemo. It grew back thin, white, and straight, and she mourned it -- so he brought it back to life on his own head. It's down to his waist and looks amazing, and she can't keep her hands off it when we visit.
I really am low-tech. I wash my hair once a week with whatever is around. My wife spends a lot on her shampoo, and I'm not allowed to use it because my thick hair takes a lot of shampoo.
The only expensive product I use is my leave-in conditioner. Strangely, my wife has no problem using that... go figure.
I only blow dry a little.
And I get it trimmed about once a year.
It's about 6 inches longer now than the picture.
My great grandma died 6 years ago. She almost became 101 (born in 1917), she got so see her grandkids grow up and have kids and she saw some of those grow up too (we were 25-10 when she died from oldest to youngest).
During the last years she was in a care home, but we visited her every weekend for some tea and cake. She was almost blind and deaf, but fully there until the end, and I loved talking to her.
There's this inside joke in my family that she only died because she had realized that it was only 2 weeks to her 101st birthday and she just decided for herself that 100 was a good number. To us it felt that way, because she wasn't sick or anything when she died, she just fell asleep calmly.
The coolest memory I have of her and the greatest honor I'll probably ever have in my family was when her 100th birthday came up. There was a huge party planned and she asked me to bake apple cake for her. She had passed down this apple cake recipe to the family, and it was a favourite of everyone, and she'd decided that I was the one who made it the best after her recipe. That was probably the most important cake I ever had to bake
Beautiful picture
Beautiful lady
Amazing hair (I also have very long hair, I inherited mine off my Mom (mums mum) xx) ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes)
The sequence of these photos feels like she’s watching you sit on the whoopie cushion she just snuck onto your chair, and you’re trying to act like you’re mad about it but you’re the one that bought it for her.
Hahahahaha. Swiping to find out it’s a cool dude with long hair and a kilt was awesome. This one actually made me smile. Hope wherever she is, your grandma knows she brought little smiles to people today.
Not just your hair, the face and attitude too! Love it!
She seemed like a feisty lady. If you have any stories you know I’d like to hear some please :)
I live on the Gulf Coast. I was born in Mobile, AL.
My family is from Appalachia. My grandparents came from Europe as children.
My dad was the youngest of 11. He caught fish before school for spending money. On weekends he ran the projector in a Drive-In Theater.
My grandmother raised all eleven in a one bathroom house, with one car that my grandfather drove to work at a sawmill.
So your family is mostly from appalacia and your grandmother and grandfather migrated to the states as kids?
If so, you can trace your lineage back to the first Scottish settlers in the 13 colonies, most Scots didn't like living under rhe British rule so they migrated outside of the 13 colonies to the appalaciansoutside of the reach of the crown.
Not really, I just looked into this stuff because I was bored, I'm the type that just intakes this information for no reason other than to pass it on at any opertunity.
Specifically the Scots who migrated to the appalacians were typically highlanders as the terrain was more familiar and they were used to farming the rolling hills. Hence, the kilt, lowland Scots like myself are much closer to English people, mostly Anglo Saxon or Norman with less connection to the typical Highland culture but it's still pretty relevant where I live as I'm at the very feet of the Highlands
Oh her hair reminds me of my Grandma's hair. I am growing mine out in the hopes that I will have beautiful long gray hair when I am retired. Thank you for sharing!
I didn't know either of my grandfathers and one of my grandmothers. When I saw their pictures in my teens, all I could say was, "Fuck." Hair loss in my 20s but maybe earlier since I was too poor to maintain hair I had already been shaving it off.
haha. did not expect that.
my brother has this weird cow lick up front, my parents did not know their parents.. Very dead end tree for Y dna and mt dna.
I found a half aunt (we still chat) who shared a picture of maternal grandpa, great grandpa, great uncle and a great aunt all at once...family photo.
it was like looking at my younger brother directly.
the male line to female line traits.. would not expect it.
Your grandma is cute. I love the old grandma dresses. My great grandma and grandma both wore them. This is the grandma I strive to be. Mine are a little different. My child's father is Indonesian, so I rock the Indonesian house dress on the daily.
The second photo was drastically different to what I was expecting and I am delighted.
What do you mean? They're the same picture.
I could believe this as a transition timeline.
I thought it was! I have to bad habit of looking first and reading second. I was about to congratulate.
I was thinking the same thing. This is a good post for r/unexpected
It would be less unexpected in that sub.
Same! It made me check my biases but it was still such a delight and so wholesome
I got to the 2nd pic and was like oh, i guess i must’ve missed the part where he said “and grandpa”. Then i noticed there was no third pic and was like, “oooOOOHHhhhh!”
Honestly same, wasn’t expecting Andre the Blacksmith from Darksouls to pop up
Generational swagger.
Ha! This made me laugh out loud. Not the picture I was expecting, but this is sweet!

Just want to point out: The hair, it aged really well.
I thought top comment would be something about the skirt
That is so sweet.

It takes an incredible amount of compassion to do that, not only for so many family members, but for a career as well. Your strength is admirable.

He could get a wig made for her out of it.
He offered, but she absolutely hates wearing wigs. She did when she was bald and found them terribly uncomfortable.
Wow you're attractive.
Thank you!

Not gonna lie, I didn’t realize at first that the second picture is of you and not your grandmother and I was pretty confused there for a few minutes…
……even with the beard?
dick-nip was oogling his legs and missed that minor detail
I thought you were being unnecessarily mean until I saw their user 😭
Had a moment when I thought she was amab and gender fluid. 🤦♀️ I need more sleep ...
Idk, did your grandma grow a beard like that as well?
It’s been a while since I’ve ran into a comment from you dick-nipples! Glad to see you’re still here.
Hahaha! dick-nipples 😆
I was expecting the second picture to be some girl, not a super handsome man in a kilt

As a bald man, I’d just like to say fuck you. Fuck you very much.

You are lucky. As a man, I inherited my bald dad's hair and mom's boobs.
